Chapmans pitching because they need him to. This board is laughably reactionary. Amen. missing the forest for the trees. Sad, this is a great baseball game.

I'm so rooting for this game to be postponed until tomorrow. Would they really do that? I dont think they would. I feel sorry for the fans. I think the beer is probably shut down.

I just think it's very appropriate to make both these franchises wait just a longer to celebrate a world series win.

I'm so rooting for this game to be postponed until tomorrow. Would they really do that? I dont think they would. I feel sorry for the fans. I think the beer is probably shut down. Here's the situation. The rain coming through now is only a small cell, and temporary. After that there's a clear patch for about an hour (minus the time it takes to get started again after the umps decide to resume play.) Then there is a HUGE blob of heavy rain coming in. So after the game is restarted, if it goes more than a couple of innings without being decided there's a good chance that it is suspended (I assume it's suspended) until tomorrow.

So who is going to pitch now? Salazar and Lackey?

Looks like they may try getting the tarp off and restarting the game ASAP. I think everybody realizes that they are dealing with a limited window of opportunity here.
And it isn't just the rain backing them up until tomorrow. After the front goes through I think the temperature is supposed to drop like a rock. MLB caught an enormous break with balmy weather in early November in Cleveland, but they could run out of luck.

This is one of the most amazing all-time classic baseball games I've ever seen. It's amazing how all of the abused overused arms have all went dead tonight.
Kluber finally ran out of gas and had nothing. Tito was a batter two late in pulling him and it cost him a run - and no that's not second guessing.
Miller had dominated everybody and even had three days of rest, but he struggled mightily and was touched for two runs.
Allen struggled a bit and almost could have been the losing pitcher but some stupid managing by Maddon and a great defensive play by Lindor prevented that.
Chapman is gassed, a victim of stupid management from the night before when Maddon didn't think any of his secondary relievers could protect a 5 run lead. Hell, even Farrell remembered to use Lackey as a reliever. Maddon resisted doing that and Chapman threw pitches he shouldn't have.
It's hillarious how Mother Nature decided that the suffering should go on and the game was held up after extra innings. So the eventually winning fanbase has to wait even longer to end a 68 or 108 year drought and the loser has to wait longer for the excruciating loss that extends the misery to 69 years or 109 years while pondering blowing a 3-1 Series lead and losing the last two games at home or blowing a 3 run lead with two outs and nobody on just four outs away from ultimate victory and then blowing a golden opportunity in the 9th inning.

It's also amazing how quickly Maddon removed Hendricks when he didn't need to. There was a lot of that this post-season - way too many quick hooks, some that weren't that necessary. I think this will become a new trend but I don't think wearing out your bullpen is necessarily the way to go, although in Cleveland's case, I don't think thy had much of a choice.
Also, it's funny. I always hoped David Ortiz's last AB of his career would result in a World Series clincher HR. Instead David Ross is the guy who homered in his last AB, and yeah, walked in his final plate appearance and his run could have been the winner if not for shoddy managing and great defense.

Of all Maddon's errors the last couple nights, taking out the MLB leader in ERA after 4 2/3 while he was pitching well on a night with limited availability of his traditional bullpen hasn't gotten nearly enough play. Hendricks can probably get four more outs and this is a totally different game.
EDIT: Hah, great minds...

Chapman for the 10th right? Yeah, let's see if he can win it with nothing but change ups at this point.

OH MY! The Cubs are ridiculously talented and I'm one of the most consistent Maddon haters here, but he's done a terrific job at keeping his guys morale up. That was his main weakness IMO and he's improved by leaps and bounds. A few bad decisions early, but no quitting which is the most important thing.

At what point are we allowed to mention that Mike Napoli doesn't have a hit since mid-August?

Doesn't Mike Montgomery just sound like a guy who would give up a walk-off homer to lose the Cubs a world series?
