Looks like Clark Schimdt will require TJ. BA had him sneaking into the top 15 range in their mock last week. Giving the timing he could be ready around the break next season. Not sure if it would be wise to take him and try to sign him a bit under slot. Seems like a team with multiple picks in that range could have him in play.

David Peterson, an LHP out of Oregon who the Red Sox took in the 28th round of the 2014 draft but didn't have a serious shot at signing, struck out 20 on Friday night: www.baseballamerica.com/college/oregons-david-peterson-strikes-20/#Zrt8YpZezFkO69EL.97 Seems to be a projected mid-to-low first rounder, so definitely someone who could be in play for Boston. Right now he has 107 Ks and 6 (yes, six) walks in 74 1/3 innings. As a general rule I like pithers with a 17.83 K:BB ratio.

Keston Hiura is an interesting option. Seems he may need TJ and projects as either LF or 2B but the latest pipeline projections put a 60 on his hit and he's slashing .416/.558/.701 with 8 HRs and 43 BBs to 28ks. It's out west at UC Irvin and I believe it's a more pitcher friendly environment. He doesn't turn 21 until August.

Going to be an interesting draft in terms of their long-term prospects. They could really use several hits, and at least one high-value talent. FWIW, it's looking more and more like the Chavis pick (similar slot) was a solid one.

Seth Romero will probably slide some, too, with the "makeup issues" tag. Sits 94 from the left. Depending on available player options, your underslot sign idea could be a good one at a time when the Sox could use both quality and quantity.

But he might end up sliding in the draft because of that. There comes a point when his bat is just too much to pass on.”

Looks like we are firmly entrenched in the 'gamblin' zone.

2015 #24 pick, Walker Bueller with some helium right now in prospect land. He does kind of represent a 'gamble pick' too. He was a guy projected for the top 5 early in the spring and dropped either because of performance, his upcoming TJ surgery, or a combo of the two. Now he's reported to be sitting between 95-99 with a hammer curve.

Interestingly, the #24 pick has been a compensation pick because the Red Sox signed a team's free agent four times.
And yes, that's that John Gibbons (but no, "Jon Farrell" picked by the Pirates in 1991 is a different one)

Jake Burger. David Peterson if he's available. Then pack it up.

I saw houck throw and really loved the arm action and movement he got on his fastball.
He probably projects as a fifth starter or bullpen guy, but if he slides, we need to consider taking him.
The kid from cullman Alabama is pitching in the state 5a finals. He is short, but can bring it.
Speaking of Alabama, bubba Thompson is a tremendously gifted outfielder. Super speed and projects as a ten to fifteen homer guy.
We have a shot at a player or two in this draft,

I want Rickard and Romero to build on there work with the draft regarding the amateur draft and the international signing. I like how Rickard handled last years draft even though the results will not be known for years but I applaud the direction of the draft allocation of assets, focusing on the top ten. Nono knew Groome would fall and they pounced. I also loved the drafting of college bullpen arms from big schools. The strategy behind it meets my approval. So I hope Rickard gets more of a voice in this draft and I know Romero has huge cache from his previous work.

If Lange has a huge sec tournament and ncaa post season, he would be very hard to pass up in the first round.
Then come back in the second round with Blane knight of Arkansas and that would be a monster draft for us.

Is this considered a deep draft class? Does this year have a deep pool of first round guys?

IDK if this has been mentioned before but Henry Ramos' little brother is in this draft, Heliot Ramos ranked 24 in the latest BA rankings.

Houck would be a monster pick, but he threw a 10 strikeout complete game victory against sc so he should be a top 20 pick.

A high end arm id love in round 2-3 is Tyler Johnson from S. Carolina. He was good last season and followed it up with a great Team USA season as their closer. I think he's been mismanaged and could start. Just threw 4.1 innings vs Vandy with 8K 1H 1BB.

So it seems like a good year to grab a high school guy with high upside.
