Team defense has been abysmal all night. You really can't criticize them enough. Giving them 5 outs this inning. What do you expect to happen? Really terrible. You can definitely criticize them enough.

Squander a 1 out double and get zilch in a 1 run game with top of the NYY order coming up in the bottom of the 9th.
I've seen this movie too many times.

Just remember Kimbrel, Yankees don't swing before two strikes.

In other news, Scooter Gennett hit four home runs for the Reds tonight. They're already calling it "Revenge of the Scooter"...(okay...I am)...finally settling the score, for "this", from over 20 years ago! ...and passing Willie Mays, Johnny Bench, Larry Walker, Jim Thome, Ralph Kiner and immortal Casey McGehee, all of whom hit 3 HR in a game vs Cardinals!

expending some energy to close the 8th may have been a good thing...Kimbrel not yanking it and overthrowing (so far) in the 9th

Damn, Kimbrel wasn't messing around in that 9th inning. Hell, he hasn't been messing around all year.

Seriously, though, that Judge at-bat to end the game was savage. Blew three fastballs by him. Beautiful stuff.

Hope Smith comes back resembling something of his old self. Kimbrel needs a solid 8th inning option so Farrell doesn't burn him out with 4 out saves. Also, so that DD doesn't send Travis, Shawaryn, Mata and Cedrola for another reliever at the deadline.

I really don't feel good about Kimbrel going back out there. This is one of those outings where he gets behind in the count and throws a ton of pitches. I really don't want to see him up against Judge with 35 pitches thrown and a man on. Ok I can't doubt Kimbrel anymore. Even in the games he struggles a bit in, he still ends up recovering. What a difference from last year.

Great great win! Also, the reasons why JF trusts Barnes remains a mystery.

Great great win! Also, the reasons why JF trusts Barnes remains a mystery. Well he does because he pitches the 8th, but he doesn't because he takes him out after 2 outs.
