Really, really stoked for this series - I just posted this in the Blue Jays thread but putting it here (more appropriately)
Coming out of the Toronto series - the good
Price Bogaerts Hanley Smith Maddox (bullpen in general, except Kelly's speed bump)
the worrying
Sale Pomeranz Porcello injury bug JBJ in a long drought Benny and Devers in a funk
Important for the Houston series - hoping that Sale, Pom and Porcello can fix their location and/or velocity issues Keeping Hanley and Xander and Vazquez hitting Hoping Nunez and Betts and Pedey are OK and can get some good ABs in before the playoffs Hope that the parts of our offense that are stuggling - esp JBJ, but also Raffi and Benny - get turned around.
Perhaps most of all - that we can get this wrapped quickly and provide just a bit of rest to the banged up and regulars.

Please don't pitch Sale on Sunday. Dude needs a rest. Amen. Skip this start, throw a bit on the side, and go into the ALDS well rested.

Don't think there's a chance in hell that Sale pitches barring total disaster where they haven't clinched the division by then.

As others have stated, a tune-up start in which he throws like 20-40 pitches is probably what's in the offing. I'm not sure that's worse than him going on 9 days' rest, although the Astros are doing just that with Keuchel and Verlander.

I'm not sure that's worse than him going on 9 days' rest, although the Astros are doing just that with Keuchel and Verlander. It would be on 8 days rest. His one career start on 8 days rest from a full outing was this year, after the ASB -- when he put up a 7.2 3 0 0 2 13 line against the Yankees. That was on 3 days rest from the AS game, so if he were to pitch an inning or two on Sunday, the rest pattern would be identical -- 4 days rest, an inning or 2, 3 days rest. If he pitches, I think it'll be an inning, just to keep the rust off. I'm fine with that, or nothing (presumably with a side session on teh proper day).

If the NYY has the tiebreaker over the Red Sox, why would they play a tiebreaker game?

For certain ties (if two teams tie for the division lead or the second wild card spot), there's so much at stake that the teams play a tiebreaker game rather than just using the default tiebreaker rules. In those circumstances, the team that comes out ahead per the standard tiebreaker rules has home field for the tiebreaker game.

In those circumstances, the team that comes out ahead per the standard tiebreaker rules has home field for the tiebreaker game. That's just weird. So if the Yankees and Red Sox tie, the loser of that tiebreaker game has a bigger disadvantage than the 2nd wild card team because that team would get more rest. They may as well treat it the same as football and not have tiebreaker games. Does anyone know the 2nd tiebreaker (if say Cleveland/Houston went 3-3 this season)?

Breaking ties without playoff games[edit] 1.The team with the better record in head to head play. 2.The team with the best overall record in intradivision games.* 3.The team with the best overall record in intraleague games. 4.The team with the best record in the final 81 games of the season, ignoring interleague play. 5.The team with the best record in the final 82 games of the season (provided the game added is not between the tied teams), extending backward until the tie is broken (Interleague games are skipped and ignored in this process.) •all current references in mlb.com website indicate that this rule applies even for teams that are not in the same division.

Geeze, Peacock's numbers look really good. I hope that's just him pitching above his head this year and the peripherals don't match the results. I'm sure he's a part of the Atros playoff rotation.
There's a case to be made where he should be the number 2 starter based on those numbers.
