it is a game of chicken at this point for Stanton to the Yanks. I am sure Cashman is salivating at the chance to fleece the Captain. Will be interesting to see Mr. Overrated has any balls to make sure he gets a fair deal. I know Stanton has limited his options, but if your the new regime a lot of reputation currency is on the line. They already have had plenty of missteps.

If Stanton prevents the Yankees from getting Harper. Great. If not... a lineup of Harper, Stanton, Judge is going to be very very scary.

I can understand if the sox didn't have the prospects to make a deal. And I was strongly against dealing Devers, Betts, or Beni. But if they didn't at least try to take the contract ane give away lesser players than. the above, thats not a good look for the Red Sox. Especially if Yankees mainly just take the contract. I mean at least try and if Stanton still vetos than its not your fault. Now if Marlins somehow get most of the contract takimg care of and Legit prospects Than it was never in the cards.

I think we have a case where Stanton would have accepted a trade to St. Louis or San Fran but the Yankees got involved a few days prior causing Stanton to decide instead to veto such moves forcing his way to NY.
Jon HeymanVerified account @jonheyman
yanks giancarlo talks are very serious, and they've been going on seriously at least a few days. the belief it could/would get done with NYY may have led stanton not to consider the giants as seriously as he might have.

Stanton and Judge in the same lineup is a scary thought. They combined for 111 homers last year, a mere 17 less than the entire Giants roster hit. No wonder SF wanted Stanton so much.
Edit: Incorrect numbers.

Well everyone knew they were gearing up for a big move it just came a year early. Hopefully Dom doesn't over react and give Hosmer a blank check. Boras has to love this with Hos and JDM.

Joel Sherman says it will be Castro plus "good buy not top prospects." No reference to the % of Stanton's contract changing hands.

Man, do I feel bad for any team filled with left handed starters trying to get through that lineup.
19 times a year...

The Yankees lineup is totally loaded. Assuming it's Castro and lesser prospects (meaning they keep Torres and Floral for instance?) Maybe they hang onto Andujar?
But if they hang onto Clint Frazier as well, their lineup looks something like this:
Gardner (CF - I guess) Judge Stanton Sanchez Bird Gregrorius Frazier Torres Headley
No, they probably won't get Harper now and I'm sure Theo (I had read somewhere that Harper is good friends with Bryant and has interest in the Cubs) is thrilled about that, but who knows - maybe the Yankees go after Machado next season?
Either way the Yankees got much, much better in 2018 and beyond for the next few years anyways.
My guess is Stanton does a lot of DHing with Frazier and Hicks platooning (with Gardner playing LF with Hicks plays CF). That will help preserve Stanton's health.
And yes the Sox lefty loaded rotation is what the Yankees RH power hitting lineup is geared for. Oh boy.

This is some bad news but I think the sox will be just fine again this year. Not all too worried about what the MFYs are doing. Sox hopefully will stick to whatever plan they had going into the off season and not overreact.

And here I was enjoying Derek Jeter's awful decisions as an executive.
By the way, I would love to see Stanton and Judge paired up for any team, except the stupid Yankees. Judge and Stanton together on the Yankees however will be a stain upon all humanity, forever.

The Bombers will live up to their name....sadly. Machado in 2019?

NIghtengale (GRAIN OF SALT ALERT) says Marlins paying $21M .
And seriously, people, stop complaining about the Red Sox not trying to trade for him. He. Didn't. Want. To. Come. To. Boston. And. Had. A. Full. No-Trade.

Championships aren't won in the off season. I just hope the Sox don't do something stupid like signing Hosmer.

Yankees will probably pass on Harper and Manny next season and go all in for Kershaw.

If it is true that MFY are paying 4 mill a year on that contract, then I will say the fix is in. Good god. Stanton and Judge for 4.5 million a year? Jeter should have waited until the deadline. Hell he saved 4 mill laying off half his org. I hope this isn't true.

Commish needs to step in and overrule the trade as not in he best interests of baseball. I don't care about the players, we have rank amateur running the show over there. I didn't think it was possible to have a lower opinion if Derek Jeter, but I now do.
I am only half joking here.
