That was Rodon's 76th pitch, caught in the bullpen by Hector Velazquez (#76)... I sure hope we have relievers with numbers ranging from 90-99.....

Ok, I’ll say this a few times over the season: I was not gung ho about JD in the off season. I was fine signing him,but I would have been ok with the likes of Logan Morrison. Mea culpa and all that. I did not realize how good he is. He has such a great swing, and he is such a thoughtful hitter. That’s why I am not even a fantasy GM. He's a hitter in the same mold as Miguel Cabrera in his prime. I didn't think he was for real, but he is.

Then one day early in the season when he still wasn't hitting really well I saw him after an AB sitting in the dugout making notes. I figured then this guy isn't fooling around. it's a science for him, he takes it seriously and he'll probably be fine. Got one right!!

JD Martinez has 50 home runs in his last 123 games (514 plate appearances). One HR every 10.28 plate appearances.

It would be really nice to see Swihart start to take advantage of his opportunities to hit.

We are in a stretch where making contact after getting the first few men on base seems near impossible. Rodon's stuff is like Sale's. It's not surprising. Not just this game - Mookie's absence is starting to sting a bit.

Very nice win - just enough offense, great pitching. 44 wins...wow. (do your job tonight, Mets!)

We need to lengthen the lineup. At present we have Betts, Benny, Martinez, Xander and maybe Moreland (but based on history, perhaps not so much). Hopefully Pedey can give us a possible 6 guys. CF, C, 3b remain serious holes. Devers is improving defensively...but is currently an offensive liability,...who knew?! Yankees have the most productive (and young) lineup in baseball with the possibility of landing either Machado or Harper. We will have to beat them with pitching..

They rally in the 8th and beat the Mets. It will be interesting to see how much difference it makes when they obtain another starter by the deadline. They just keep winning regardless of their starting pitching now. Will their offense cool off at some point or be knocked down by an injury?

Tanaka being down with hamstring trouble really puts a press on them making a move. He hasn’t been good at all this year (nor has Gray; losing Montgomery to TJ is tough, too), but he at least provided some stability/reliability. Severino is outstanding, and Sabathia keeps chugging along, but I can’t see them holding off to see what they have in Sheffield (BB problems) or Adams. The question is, just how good a starter do they want? A real rotation piece is going to take a bite out of their considerable talent pool; the fact that they may “need” two could really hurt, especially re: lux tax considerations.

The Sox better not be the best wild card team in league history this year or it'll be downright depressing.
Like BoSox mentioned, the Yankees can't f-ing lose. Ever. It's why I shrug my shoulders and get frustrated and say- who knows? (when it comes to winning the division)
Every team seems to puke all over themselves when the Yankees comeback from 7 innings on.
Hopefully the addition of Wright in the rotation gives the Sox the edge and the boost they need to push them over the Yankees, but we'll see. Wright definitely is a force and he cleared up the Pomeranz weakness in the rotation.
Really glad with the win though. KEEP MARTINEZ IN THE DH SPOT UNTIL THIS BACK THING IS GONE PLEASE AND THANK YOU.

One more thing regarding JBJ-
His season with his bad numbers overall gives the Sox a higher chance of keeping him next year. His arbitration raise won't be as significant. I could see him settling 5-6 million dollars next year for a contract if his average stays around .200 - .230
That's not a bad thing. JBJ is a good player and is easily worth that money.

I simply looked at his OPS over the last 4 years and really wanted the Sox to get him especially given the favorable market. As I have said before I hope he rakes so well that he would opt out but the Sox resign him and keep him for a while. He looks like the guy who will rake thru his 30's but he needs to take care of that back. Those opposite field Hr's look so natural for him, he has more opp hrs than 21 teams in baseball. Lol On the opposite end of the spectrum we have Devers who I didn't think could be this bad. I was bullish on him having an 850 ops type season this year but he has been really struggling. He does have 5 hits in his last 4 games so hopefully something has clicked for him.

We know it's just a matter of time before the Yankees make their move and get a Cole Hamels or an AJ Happ to narrow the starting pitching gap. The issue with the Sox lineup is that it's very thin. I'm worried Devers is going to go through Xander Bogaerts' 2014 season where he took a step back before taking two steps forward. The Sox need Devers to step up and be that guy he was last season. It's interesting that Cora was offering Devers gift certificates for going opposite field and taking walks. Dever is supposed to have a very good hit tool. Haven't really seen it this season. Betts + Martinez have more than cancelled out the tandem that Judge and Stanton are although I do expect Stanton to pick up the pace. I'm hoping Devers cancels out Torres. I figure that the Sox don't really have a guy like Sanchez but the Yankees really don't have a guy like Benintendi. And Xander certainly cancels out Gregorious and Moreland cancels out Bird. Pedroia being mostly like his old self could be a difference maker on both sides of the ball and he either could be a spark plug if they bat him 2nd or more likely lengthen the lineup batting 7th. I honestly expect the Sox at this point to be well below average offensively from CF and catcher in the 8/9 spots. I expect our CF will hit .225/.300/.350 and our catchers will hit .225/.275/.325 Pedroia and Devers are important when trying to keep with the Yankees. It's harder to win when the lineup stops after the 5 spot. And it's a real waste for Mookie not to have people to drive in from atop the lineup.

2 hits one at 65mph and the other at 69. A little lucky. Plus he's getting squeezed

Good for Devers, but that swing on the 2-0 was pretty bad.

I really don't care much what the Yankees do all season. I don't pay attention to their games, I just hope Boston wins when they play, and that's all that matters.

I don't believe this......this is sarcasm, right ? No. It's going to be a painfully long season if we spend any amount of thought to what the Yankees do on top of what we do. I know that Boston fans can love pain/torture sometimes, but still....

Why is Porcello throwing strikes on 0-2 counts then nibbling with sub-.240 hitters at the plate? Thanks, I’ll hang up and listen...
