Robert Murray Verified account @byrobertmurray 3m3 minutes ago #Indians acquire Leonys Martin from the #Tigers in exchange for Willi Castro, sources tell The Athletic. Indians #8 prospect. Consistently performed at a high level as one of the youngest prospects in his league. High price to pay for a guy with a career OPS+ of 83. The Indians might have been smarter to trade for Castillo.

I wonder if the Red Sox could trade someone for cap relief, like Kelly, Pomeranz or Nunez.

I'm having a hard time understanding how Osuna could be re-instated before the trial is completed. The 75 game suspension was just an administrative leave, pending the outcome of the trial. MLB cannot finish investigating the evidence before the trial is over. It's also extremely difficult to be able to enter the US with pending felony assault charges. The guy should be banned from the sport and probably even from the US entirely. I'd love to see his suspension get extended now more than ever. Horrible look for Houston. I've seen a number of people suggest that, just like with a PED suspension, if you serve a domestic violence suspension, you are made ineligible for a playoff roster that season. It's a great idea, and just a "best interests of the game" thing really. Imagine if Houston repeats this year, and Osuna is on the mound to close it. Every story the next day is a think piece on how disturbing it is to see a stadium full of fans cheer on a known abuser. If MLB is going to take it upon itself to investigate and punish abusers, which it should, it can't then allow said abusers to occupy the biggest stage that the sport ha to offer in the immediate wake of that punishment. That's what is known as a turd in the punchbowl.

Looks like it's the Diamondbacks in on Ziegler, not the Sox.

I wonder if the Red Sox could trade someone for cap relief, like Kelly, Pomeranz or Nunez. I think Pomeranz could go during August if he pitches okay and Erod gets healthy. I think Nunez is needed for depth and Kelly’s salary might not reduce the number enough. Still can’t believe we extended Vazquez when we did.

Kelly is making $3.8M. edit- Vazquez' AAV is $3.75M.

It’s very insulting to anyone who has suffered from something like that. Yeah he’s talented, but there’s a lot of talented players out there, and the game wouldn’t skip a beat without him ever playing again.

Good, I didn't want it to be the Sox, I don't think he's a fit. He's a good pitcher though, the DBacks did well.

The thing about DD and his time here, most of his trades just happen without any whispers or rumors about them. I don't think we heard any rumors about the last three players we acquired via trade. There were a few smart posters who bought up kinsler. I don't remember reading his name connected with the sox and i read all the sites!

I'd just as soon make a deal (if it happens) to include larger prospects that gives away Pomeranz, the remaining 3m on his salary and any type of reliever from whatever team they are dealing with. Pomeranz is costing the team wins and has been all season and seems to will be for the future. Even johnson can go 4-5 innings.
Doubtful Pomeranz going to get back to any resemblance of what he was last season in 2 months time and unless can bury him on some kind of injury at Pawtucket? He really needs to go away, fairly short SP on or not.

I doubt anything major happens. I'd actually be surprised if they got anyone. Not much left that would be considered an upgrade over most of the pen.

Re: Osuna Wasn't it the 'stros that made a big deal about having a zero tolerance policy ? I have to respect Verlander and McCullers here and I can't see how this is going to help team chemistry. I honestly doubt Verlander and McCullers are going to bring it up and even if a journalist has the balls to ask them, which is also doubtful, they're going to pull a Sammy Sosa and pretend they forgot how to speak english.

Two value guys Sergio Romo and Jake Diekman. Is the ballpark in Texas a killer on lefties? Diekman has massive home and road splits .867 OPS at home, .406 OPS on the road. For his career he is good against lefties, but not as a Ranger. Can't tell if its just the park or what. Would need to dig a lot deeper, just don't have the time.
Edit: Cole Hamels also had a massive home and road split this year .911 OPS at home, .697 OPS on the road.

Love Will Smith ..strikeout lefty 12+/9, .81 whip, not a LOOGY, miniscule ERA etc

Love Will Smith ..strikeout lefty 12+/9, .81 whip, not a LOOGY, miniscule ERA etc I took a look at him earlier. He's a rental that gets good results off a slider. He looked more interesting than the other Giants lefty reliever Tony Watson. I'd trade Hembree's controlled years for this year's pen upgrade.

Love Will Smith ..strikeout lefty 12+/9, .81 whip, not a LOOGY, miniscule ERA etc Smith may well be one of two, count 'em, two relievers that make sense now. The other remains Kirby Yates.
If there's a third guy, it's Smith's teammate, Tony Watson.
I think they can get Yates and stay under $237M by keeping September call-ups to a minimum.
Smith would put them about $600K over, I think. Watson even further, I think.
However, trading Joe Kelly for an OK prospect would make either LHR available, and he's the obvious guy to deal if you're adding a reliever. There's no roster space for an addition without moving somebody, and he's both the current low man on the depth chart of short relievers, and the guy in his walk year.

Cost will be higher as a result, but they're looking for a guy who'll be here next year (at least).
Trading Hembree is an unnecessary sideways move, and he has a very specific role on the club, inherited-runner strander, that you'd then have to fill. You're trying to win this year, so it makes much more sense to deal Kelly and pay the cost with prospects (that's what they're there for, says DDo!).
Oh, and dealing Kelly keeps you under $237M while dealing Hembree doesn't.

Dozier to the Dodgers, Archer to the Pirates, and Gausman to the Braves. All in the span of a couple of minutes.
