Calling it Pomeranz to the pen.

@alexspeier Dombrowski on why Sox didn't need a lefty: Matchup left-on-left guys represent inefficient use of roster, Sox can move a LH starter to the bullpen, Sox feel that their RH relievers can get LHHs out, and teams will start RHH-heavy lineups vs LH starters in playoffs.
He's not wrong

No complaints from me about the deadline. I’m hopeful if we’re close to the $237 we could possibly dump Kelly or Pomeranz and get under.

That's too bad. Kelvin Herrera would have been perfect for this team. Dombrowski certainly had the right idea. Too bad the Nationals are so dysfunctional. I'll be rooting against them the rest of the year.
Really, there were 3 guys I really wanted: Herrera, Soria, or Britton.
I think Soria would have been the easiest guy to get. Britton just had too much action and if they needed Beeks to get Eovaldi they made the right call. I wish they would have gotten Herrera originally from KC, but I can't fault DDo for Washington's flakiness. Guess DDo wasn't that high on Soria.
There were some rentals out there and maybe Kela would have been a good get for perhaps not too much, but I'm glad DDo preserved the farm system not getting rentals. Sounds like guys like Houck, Mata, and Dalbec perhaps were hot commodities.
That said, I am still worried about the pen, which has been excellent. Thornburg has looked great lately, but we're talking 13 batters, a very small sample size. Same with Brasier.
An established guy like Herrera would have been perfect. I really wish he had gotten him. I understand why not, and I understand why he didn't give up assets for guys that barely move the meter.
Let's just say I was impressed by Dombrowski at his press conference. He's a pretty sharp guy. These days you have to be, because there are a lot of other sharp guys doing the same job elsewhere, more than there used to be.

We probably low balled them I'm hearing ownership(Nats)told them to step down. Yep here we go @jorgecastillo At least one team in touch with the Nationals heard the club had deals "lined up" for multiple players, including Bryce Harper, but got the sense ownership pulled the plug late last night.

The Orioles got $2.5 million in international money from the Braves in the Gausman/O'Day deal. Think they're going after Victor Victor?

Wow the Rays did very well for Chris Archer. I guess the Bucos think they have a decent shot. At least, the Pirates have Archer under control for quite a while. Boy the Orioles know how to blow up a team quick, but they really had no real option. Their team, and organization, needs a facelift. Maybe a lobotomy! Whatever it requires to cut "Angelos" out would probably fix the patient for awhile Dr.

I don’t see the punishment for teams like the Braves who were restricted from signing players up to $300 k but they are able to trade their international signing pools for either MLB players and/or prospects. If these teams are being punished they should not be able to trade their pool money.

Whatever it requires to cut "Angelos" out would probably fix the patient for awhile Dr. The damage done by the Davis contract looms large. They've jettisoned just about every useful piece on that team at this point. Those big home run years gave off a blinding light that burned Angelos' eyeballs, making him incapable of reading the terms of that contract. Let's do a simple 2018 comparison: Chris Davis: -2.0 WAR / $23.0 M Khris Davis: +1.8 WAR / $10.5 M So the parallel universe Davis (West Coast division) has already made his salary and more. Chris Davis needs to be giving money back from my reading. This is just a small taste of why Oakland keeps on keepin' on just about every year, while Baltimore? Nothing to see here folks, and there won't be for a while.

I'm not impressed with Meadows tbh, a full year of average to below average production in AAA. WHen he got called up, he was on absolute fire at the mlb level for two weeks which was an outlier in his production, and then plummeted back to earth. Really don't think he's anything special, and his defense has been rated horribly in CF in a SSS.
The shine is also off Glasnow; I think the Pirates made a good trade if they are low on those two guys. Trade them while they still have value.

Remember watching him during ST several games and few this season. He can be filthy. Think TB may have this in mind also. Guy sits upper 90's and 5 more years of control for a mid rotation starter. Think glasnow was more important get rather than meadows in the deal.

As in, acquire him? Not sure he'd really help us at all. Even though he's gotten decent results this year, he's homer-prone and doesn't even average 92 with his fastball. Doubt there's a significant difference between what we'd get from him vs. Brandon Workman.

I love power relievers as much as the next guy but when your guys are all of similar profile it’s nice sometimes to have a different look in the mix. As long as he’s good that is.
