Upgrade. Kinsler has to be stoked.

My money: the Sox stay under the cap and no more trades. Agree. With the way the Sox have treated the tax threshold (like a hard cap), I don’t see another trade could occurring.

This team gets an A for the season, Cora deserves an A and now DD deserves an A. Great moves and I will trust that the Sox cap guys have it right.
Eovoldi and Kinsler will make big contributions to this team in the pursuit of a WSC.
Did you see the spray chart for Kinsler? He is going to love the monster.
110 wins

Given the limited trade chips we had, I am extremely impressed that DD has picked up Pearce, Eovaldi, and Kinsler at these reasonable prices, and apparently without going over $237M.
If a fortune teller had in March told me that in August the Red Sox' aging former gold glove 2b would have an OPS over 700 with streaks over 800 and double-digit power, I would have been very happy about that prediction of Pedroia's health.

Based on this spray chart Kinler could have upwards of 25 hrs this year playing in Fenway. I think he is going to mash and play great D!

I was literally just going to ask someone to superimpose his spray chart on Fenway. But some of those are line drives that will not go out of Fenway, right?

They leverage those 2. Still have Lakins. I know Buttrey and Lakins profile very similarly, but given Lakins health problems, I would have preferred Lakins and Jerez. I worry Lakins might get injured and never really pan out. Of course, that's probably why that didn't happen.

Sure but the overall premise is he is a very good pull hitter. He could very well be a 850+ops guy for the rest of the season and has about that for his playoff career. This is like getting a healthy Pedroia as a rental at a position of need. NO brainer for a bag a balls.

I've been a Kinsler fan since his rookie year, always liked him. His attitude reminds me of Utley minus the dirty player part. That's just perception though, I've never been his teammate. Utley wasn’t a dirty player.. get outta here with that.

My money: the Sox stay under the cap and no more trades. I don't understand the Ziegler talk at all. Dombrowski is all about power arms and he's got a mess of them at this point what with Thornburg starting to show. The Kinsler move makes a lot of sense with the question mark around Phillips. And this isn't the first time we've seen Nuñez shine at third. He passes the eyeball test, for me, as a very good fielder at the position. Bogaerts was the hitman on that twin killing, but Nuñez was his trusted accomplice. Are you talking about the twin killing where the base runner was on video game mode and for some reason walked into Xander’s tag at 3rd for no reason what so ever?

FWIW lots of projections still have us over. When Cots has us under are they factoring in the Vazquez extension? That sent his AAV up and the timing was awful.
Red Sox Payroll Red Sox Payroll @redsoxpayroll This is incorrect. The Angels sending $1.8M to Boston chops down the remaining Kinsler salary from ~$3.8M to ~$2M this season. Boston is STILL over $237M, both before and after this deal.
Payroll now at $243M+.

Resetting the roster:
Starters (5):
Sale Price Porcello Eovaldi Pomeranz
Lineup (9):
Betts (rf) Benintendi (lf) Martinez (dh) Moreland (1b) Bogaerts (ss) Kinsler (2b) Nunez (3b) Leon (c) JBJ (cf)
Bench (3): Pearce (1b/dh) Holt (util) Swithart (c/util)
Bullpen (8):
Kimbrel Barnes Thornton Hembree Braiser Kelly Velasquez Johnson
Players set to return:
Devers 3b Vazquez c Rodriguez (sp)
Devers will be back before rosters expand and they’ll option a pitcher. The other two I’m guessing aren’t back until September.

I would not assume, based solely on the fact that the Angels included cash considerations, that they’re under $237M at the moment. Even if they’re over that figure already, Henry may have wanted the Angels to throw in some cash to lower his tax bill. For each dollar over $237M, they’re paying a 62.5% tax. The $1.8M that the Angels are paying would cost the Red Sox $3M if they were already over the $237M threshold, which is a decent amount of cash.

Nunez has never been a bad third baseman, just a bad second baseman. There was also a line shot one hopper that was probably the best defensive play of the game.

It’s a good trade. - 2nd base was a mess with Nuñez getting the bulk of the reps. This will solidify the defense and add some pop to the offense.
The money is what it is, but as others have said, the drop in draft choice position is less damaging that far down in the first round than if it were, say, a top 10 or 15 pick.

As the resident skeptic of rental trades here I'd just like to check in to say that this deal is outstanding.

I have a longstanding hatred of Kinsler (fantasy reasons) but this is exactly the type of player you get at the deadline for exactly the right price.
Well done.

Utley wasn’t a dirty player.. get outta here with that. Ruben Tejada's career might think otherwise. So one play in the heat of a playoff game makes him a dirty player? Nope... he’s hyper competitive and that was a caught up in the moment play. Too far? Yes... individual dirty play? Surely Doesn’t make the guy a dirty player. He had a great hard nosed career. When you play hard and all out for as many years as he did, occasionally you could be in situations like that. You act as if this guy was reckless over the course of his career and/or was out to injure people.

Kindler was actually a teammate of Dustin Pedroia at Arizona State. In fact, according to Wikipedia, Dustin took away his SS position causing him to hit the bench.
I read somewhere, that the two never got along, carrying even to the major leagues.
As for Jerez, I was always pulling for him to succeed. He was drafted right under the noses if the MFY who sponsored his Brooklyn team. He was an outfielder with potential. His hitting, however, was not good so he converted to the mound. He worked hard and earned a 40 man roster slot. I wish him well.

I thought the price was a little stiff until I read about the money. It's Buttrey for Kinsler, plus Jerez for $1.8M to prevent the draft pick from caving 10 places. My thoughts exactly. Listen. Until this post, at which time you apparently went to bed, you accounted for 20 of the first 100 posts in the thread. "Your thoughts exactly." Had been made quite clear. I almost didn't post this because that's a low post saturation total for you compared to other times, but then I realized that's insane - 20% of a hot thread being one person is unacceptable, and 20 posts on the forum, never mind in one thread, in that time period is borderline at best and generally unacceptable. You. Do. Not. Need. To. Respond. To. Every. Post. On. The. Forum. You've been warned about this privately more times than I can count, never mind the times the moderating staff has had to chastise you publicly when private messages prove ineffective. Stop monopolizing the conversation. Make a couple posts and take a breath. Run Self Control on your browser. I really don't care what you do. I'm sick of our moderators, who do a great job keeping this forum in such great shape, spending 90% of their time tying themselves in knots trying to figure out what to do with you. There will be no more warnings. Keep your posting to a reasonable level or you'll receive temporary suspensions or eventually a permanent ban. We're not doing this dance anymore.

"...He's a gamer." -- Price, on the acquisition of second baseman Ian Kinsler, his former teammate from the Tigers So many jokes here... Do I go towards the conversation yesterday about how this is a racist take? Or Do we go the Fort Night route and how Price got another “gamer” for his team?

You watch, that one play in the national spotlight will keep him out of the HOF.
