It's a great season when we turn "throw away games" (sorta) into thrilling wins.
These are not your John Farrell Red Sox!

streamable.com/yo9beI’ve watched this like 50 times already And for all the crap people give DOB, that was a great call. Yeah, I'm glad he was paying attention to this one.

Just smiling and shaking my head.... The talent on this team is deep, figuring out who makes the playoff roster isn't going to be easy.

Went to meeting. Sox down 7-1. I can even live with a meeting.
Meeting gets boring, so I check score. Sox tied. Huh.
Meeting starts to wrap. Figure maybe I’ll watch the end. Brandon Phillips has already ended it. Kinda mad. But kinda stoked, too.

We won a game that we didn't start Betts,Martinez,Bogaerts and Kinsler and we let Pomeranz pitch. Quite remarkable.

I'm so jacked up over that. I bet Brandon Phillips won't sleep tonight. One of the best debuts I can remember.

Yeah, his David Ortiz call in the 2013 ALCS game 2 was one of the bests of my lifetime. He knows how to emphatically emphasize a big situation like that for sure.

What a great opening paragraph to the game wrap on mlb. ATLANTA -- On this zany Wednesday afternoon, when the Red Sox rested their three best position players and still roared back from a six-run deficit, it was fitting that the player who came up with the biggest hit of the day was a 16-year veteran and three-time All-Star playing his first game in the Major Leagues this season. www.mlb.com/news/red-sox-win-on-brandon-phillips-hr-in-9th/c-293428504I will say that Atlanta is going to be scary good in a few years.

Yeah, I almost mentioned that, but this was way more dramatic in that it was with 2 outs in the 9th. But Nava's was pretty crazy too since it was the first pitch he faced in the majors.

Win Probability:
.007 (7th inning stretch)
.534 (Mookie up; higher if you factor in the matchup) .080 (you know when) .805 (1 pitch later) 1.000
Phillips already had a .147 WPA when he came up, second to Kinsler's .207 on the day. I wonder whether his .872 is the best debut in Sox history.
I can tell you this: it took Phillips 1 game in a Red Sox uni to hit a more dramatic / important (game-level) HR than Jim Rice ever did in his entire career.
I don't know how you make a case for JDM as MVP when they cab win this game without him.

Pop quiz.
Who is the biggest idiot on this message board?
Answer: Me, and it isn’t even close.
Three weeks ago my wife tried to talk me into getting tickets for THIS game. We penciled in a road trip to Atlanta. We were going to drive down there in the morning (about 3 hours) watch the game and drive straight back. No hotel stay or anything. Just a straight power road trip just to watch baseball. I kinda whined about the long day and working the next day and blah blah blah. We decided not to go.
I’m so irritated with myself. She’s laughing at me.

Holy Moly! That was one of the most exhilarating wins in a season of exhilarating wins!
They really, really, really had no business winning that game. That was amazing and awesome. Somehow someway they're never really out of a game.
And it was so much fun watching Brandon Phillips make an impact on this team.
I would say they owe this man a World Series ring!

Teams leading by 6 runs or more entering the 8th are now 487-1 this year.
That .002 versus the theoretical .007 tells you how much better relievers are than average.

I threw in the towel and went to run some errands. Didn't even think of checking the score until just now. Had to stop for a moment and grope around for my eyeballs and put them back in my skull before I could post this.

It's crazy. Even our replacement players are above replacement level. Phillips should be worth close to 1 WAR already. haha

Guy who literally got cut from independent ball and was never even a top 30 prospect, versus a 37 y/o MLB veteran with 31.2 career WAR. First PA (botttom of the 2nd) versus last.
