They're meant to be a lot less formal than other threads on the forum, so to moderate them the same way would be silly. However, we do ask posters to maintain a certain level of decorum in these threads, and we plan on moderating the Gameday threads a little more actively this season. In particular, we ask that posters refrain from being overly repetitive with their posts (if you've made your point, let it go), refrain from monopolizing the discussion (if you are making more than a couple posts in a row, you probably need to slow down a little bit), and of course, follow the Ground Rules ( link). The point is to make these threads worth participating in and fun for all posters, from our long-time fixtures to people just signing up today. -The Management

So what is left to explore? On the offense, getting Moreland, Leon, Kinsler and Vazquez going a bit with the bat - getting Swihart some more ABs, and checking Nunez' health. Our big guns are in pretty good places right now - I suspect Cora will move them in or out of the line up to keep them fresh, but not let rust build up.
Pitching is where these three games can be of a bit more use...checking Porcello's stuff and control, letting Kimbrel and Barnes get the bad taste of their last appearances out of their heads...one more look at what Kelly, Workman, Hembree and Poyner have (or don't have) esp in some different leverage situations. With Thornburg shut down and playing "where's waldo" with Pomeranz (has he been shut down too) - Cora has to be getting close to his roster decisions.
Yankees Sox at Fenway are worth watching just to see the thought processes and tinkering that will go on.

Severino actually pitching Sunday seems impossibly dumb. Even if they aren't going to start in him the wild card game, he needs to be available, right?

Severino actually pitching Sunday seems impossibly dumb. Even if they aren't going to start in him the wild card game, he needs to be available, right? My guess is that he will pitch 5 innings and try to get his 20th win and then he has 4 days of rest to pitch Game 1 and if they're desperate enough they could use him in relief during the Wild Card game and back him up to Game 2 and have him in relief for Game 5 if need be. They likely won't need him during the Wild Card game. They have a full stacked bullpen that can eat up the innings along with other starters. Granted it's not ideal and it could backfire, but I think if they were really desperate it would be his day to throw anyways and he'd be available out of the pen for an inning or two. My worry is that he'll be lot more sharper than Chris Sale who will have 8 days off, has already had six weeks off, and is trying to get his mechanics fixed. All he has is an aggressive bullpen session next Monday.

Severino will probably pitch 2 innings.

Am I crazy for thinking this is actually a big game for Porcello? I mean they probably already decided on the post-season rotation and roles for everyone else, but Porcello is such a bubble guy that I can see him becoming "Steven Wright backup" if he sucks Sunday.

Porcello has had the numbers against the Yankees at home this season at least. If he pitches against the Yankees, it will be on the road. I think he's a lock for the number 4 spot in the rotation, but I also think he's on a REALLY short leash.

Would love to sweep or 2 out of 3...because prevents the douches from 100 wins...but not earth shattering importance.
Talk to the players and give them the choice of how much they want to play.

58 years ago today, Teddy Ballgame hit his last HR in his last AB. The MFY have a bunch of all time greats but we still have the greatest of them all!

Here we go with the Yankee strike zone. 2nd pitch of the game to Mookie was 6 inches outside. Then the 4th pitch to Benintendi was about 4 inches outside. Both called strikes. Hitting is hard when you only get 2 strikes instead of 3.

Hitting is hard when you only get 2 strikes instead of 3. this is the main reason a playoff series against them is going to be annoying. Also, Sanchez is very blatant with his glove movement when framing, and yet he still gets a lot of balls called strikes?

He's not a bubble guy, he's in the rotation - but you're not crazy. He needs to start pitching well. Nobody skates on mediocrity like Porcello. If Price had pitched like him in the second half and down the stretch there would be loud cries to keep Price off the roster entirely... He needs to prove he can keep the ball in the park and not give runs right back following Red Sox rallies otherwise he should be on a VERY short leash heading into his playoff start.

I think it's time to get back into the swing of playing regularly and playing to win. Plenty of rest after this series and before the playoff series begins - but they have been playing for so long with a bird in hand I'd worry more about a laissez-faire attitude carrying over into the games that really count...

Our cleanup hitter has more RBI than their cleanup hitter.

That would be funny if Sanchez gets called out here. Oops, nope. Joe Torre made the call.
