40 man crunch? Does anyone think they're worried about losing Ryan Weber? Probably not, but he was very solid tonight.

Means, by far their best starter, was supposed to pitch yesterday vs Tampa but game was cancelled and we inherited him lol Tough luck but at least we'll have a rested bullpen.

Five combined losses to Baltimore and Detroit............painful

Rays win big. Yankees win. Everytime the Sox gain a game, they give it right back the next night.

Meh, they have yet to get rolling. The losses to Baltimore are more than pathetic, but they’re still playing much better than three weeks ago. Shoulda swept Chicago, but still came out 3-1. This series is recoverable. So’s the season. FWIW, idk how in the hell NY is winning with that MASH squad. It’s ridiculous. Kinda makes Sox losses like this a LOT more embarrassing. Let’s hope Shawaryn gets the call for Price’s next turn and shows something.

And they are going to keep doing it till they get healthy pitching back. I don't know when they will go over .500 but I'm on record as saying I don't think they will be more than a few games up at the AS break and that's if things go well with injuries.

Well, this game was a uphill climb anyways. You need better pitching depth than Josh Smith. I never post Jared Carrabis' stuff here, but he kind of summed this up perfectly. As of May of 2019, Josh Smith is your number 8 starter on the depth chart and your number 5 starter in the majors right now. This was a poor and anemic way of GMing by Dombrowski. Dombrowski was mostly flawless last year, but REALLY, all of his moves have turned upside down so far this year. Thornburg and Brewer so far have been really bad (his two biggest off-season acquisition moves in the bullpen), the bad starting pitching depth, the Steve Pearce resigning that looks more of a waste now that Chavis is up and raking. I'll leave the Eovaldi signing out of the list for now because of the injury, but that was his choice of resigning Eovaldi who has a ton of injury risk attached. The Sox are in a position right now where they HAVE to call up Shawaryn and hope he produces. That also means they have to burn one of his option years because you couldn't find good depth in front of him, and also means someone's getting DFA'd with a 40 man roster spot (probably Josh Smith).

Price injury is not serious however, and he should be back really soon. His elbow probably was a little more sore than usual after his last start and needed more of a break.

Surprised the offense couldn’t scratch out a few more runs. I guess travel days with no days off take their toll.
Pedro, most of baseball was envious of our “strength of the team” rotation to start the year. It included Eovaldi, Price, Wright and Johnson who are now on the IL; Erasmo, Weber, Smith as milb signing deep depth; and near ready prospects like Shawaryn, Houck, Darwinzon. The starting depth of 1 - 8 with such promise seemed like overkill. It must be DDo’s fault that by May 6 we have already had to start #7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12. And that the top of the lineup couldn’t buy a hit today. Patience is a virtue this very strange year.

If we're going to crush Dombrowski for 17 batters of Josh Smith, does he also get credit for the 16 of Ryan Weber?
Or are we just complaining about a pitcher giving up runs once we see him again.

I grew up a Laker fan (loved Kareem and then Magic came along). I am so.thankful that I saw 80's basketball, particularly the Celts, who i friggin despised then. Bird was my most hated rival, but now I watch clips and am just blown away by how good he was. It was the best of times......it was the best of times !!!! Edit.....and Magic too. ...

Celtics game was on, don't worry that'll be over soon because that's a dead team too. Full disclosure. Edit.....and Magic too. ... Ha. Full disclosure, In that time frame I was a Boston transplant with an attitude in the LA area, rooting for the Celts: Russell over Wilt, Bird over Magic, etc. Wearing my Celtic or Sox hat around soCal was risky and caused lots of snake eye and comments. I was younger then, with a shorter fuse, and more willing to argue about such things. Which convinced me way back then that the reputation of uncaring local fans is a myth. At the same time, in the 70’s and 80’s, LA was growing rapidly via fellow transplants from all over the east and midwest wearing their old team’s colors, like me. So fan arguments were fairly common on many fronts, but were less antagonistic than those one might find in Southie or Summavil. The kids and grand kids of these immigrants to soCal are now local, added to the soCal fanbase, while often maintaining some family loyalty to ancestral teams, as do my own kids and grandkids. My immigrant grandparents became Red Sox fans. So my grandkids are fifth generation Sox fans. But my wife’s immigrant parents and her siblings are Californians and Dodgers and Angel fans, as are my grandkids, already out to the 3rd generation. What is the role of partisan fanaticism here, outside of the fun of it all? So many hard core Dodger fans, especially Mexican American, have been here for 8, 9, 10 and more generations, and absorbed this immigrant from Brooklyn as it moved 3,000 miles into their Barrio. It’s an interesting pattern that in this age of forced immigration will likely be repeated on a worldwide scale and for all major sports. Thinking this through, SoCal remains a major tourist area with millions exploring Holywood, Disney, beaches, mountains, deserts, etc. The “local” population is as ginormous and wonderfully diverse as the area itself. So Reds hats still share local streets with hats from Atlanta, Green Bay, Chicago, etc. in a fairly collegial manner. But make no mistake, the natives love and support their teams and their teams thrive. Lakers, Dodgers, Kings and Rams as well as the Clippers, Angels, Chargers, Ducks who chose to play here because of the growing fanbase. And what this fanbase sometimes lacks in Boston style fanaticism, it makes up for in sheer volume and sales of tickets and gear. SoCal has become a sports hub with its own huge and hugely loyal fanbase. And yes, I have to admit that Magic and Wilt and Kareem were awesome on the scale of Kershaw Gretsky and Trout.

Let’s hope Shawaryn gets the call for Price’s next turn and shows something. that is because the Yankees could dip into their farm system and bring up players that are more than ready to take over. remember the big selloff by the Yankeees to build up their farm system including the trade of chapman for Torres and getting him back in free agency and the trades for Clevelands and several other teams high end prospects. they are now being utilized as the replacements for the lost starters.

I am complaining that I have to see Josh Smith and Ryan Weber in the first place. Both shouldn't be on the depth chart at all. There's a reason why Josh Smith hasn't pitched in the majors since 2016. He stinks. So does Weber, even though he had a good outing versus the Orioles.
