I bet that foul ball that Devers just hit with a 3-1 count doesn't have a cover anymore.
And then he hits a 109 mph single.

This run from Devers is Ortiz like. Before the 120 mph single (it seemed like), he hit a 500 foot foul ball (again it seemed).

So does the weather get an RBI on that play?

I’m sure Chavis will take that end to the slump.

Hopefully the rest of the lineup can cover for Pearce and Nunez. At least Cora dropped Pearce to #8 where he belongs until he hits at all.
40 pitches in the first inning.

Probably a good game for a bullpen day with the forecast being what it is. They have Walden, Weber, and Smith in the pen. Which so they should be well suited for a short start.

Velazquez got the benefit of the call there.

Chavis has made a couple of good defensive plays in the early going here. Nice leaping catch on a liner in the first, and then a tough play charging in on a bouncer right there. Good stuff.

Notice that Chavis is playing 2B while Nunez DH's. Did Cora finally realize something or is it just because he doesn't want Nunez to get hurt on the wet field? I'm hoping the former.

Second base seems like a easy enough position to learn on the fly. Even Remy has even joked that it's the easiest position to learn on the diamond (former second baseman). With Chavis you just have to worry about durability, which hasn't popped up as a issue yet.

Wow does Seattle's defense suck.
Right field must feel like a really lonely place for Bruce right now.

Seattle might have the worst defensive team in MLB. Wow that was atrocious. Little League stuff from that drop in that outfield.

With Chavis you just have to worry about durability, which hasn't popped up as a issue yet. Fielding ground balls is fielding ground balls no matter where it is on the infield. It's a bit different at 2B given that you have to cover a lot more ground and the ball doesn't get to you as fast as it does at 3B, but you also have a much easier throw. The biggest thing to learn is turning double plays and covering for stolen bases, but that's way easier now since you aren't going to get killed anymore if you're not standing in the right spot.

Day off tomorrow. Cora will stretch out the bullpen for all it's got today. Looks like 3 innings and done (if Velazquez makes it that far).

So Velazquez will go back out for the fourth. His pitch count is pretty low.

So Velazquez will go back out for the fourth. His pitch count is pretty low. I doubt it 2nd time through the order, but it's possible. Walden was already warming last inning. Cora could send Velazquez out there until he gives up a baserunner in the 4th inning.

This Seattle defense is unreal.
Sidenote: I've always been kind of annoyed that the defense doesn't really get punished for making a mistake in a situation like that.
