Also, radio, I didn’t hear anyone mention that the flight from Toronto to Houston was long and scary. Their plane never got above 10,000 feet, had to dump fuel, and emergency land in Detroit. In Detroit they had to change to a new plane, transfer all the bags and gear, and take off again for a very late arrival in Houston. In addition to loss of sleep, airplane emergencies are enough to play with the minds of at least some players. Yet, they ultimately lost by one run to the “juggernaught”. Not to mention Eric’s valid and demonstrable claim claim to a run of craptastic luck. My money is still on the Sox. And let my paranoia add that this schedule seems uniquely punishing. The opening 11 game west coast trip with no day off initially seemed innocent enough, but in the light of this 33? game extravaganza with only one day off it looks less innocent. I.e. Why would a supposedly random schedule have the Sox fly into San Diego on 8/23 for 3 games followed by 3 games with the Angels? Well that’s not happening! The actual schedule has them in SD for 3 games, then flying to Denver for 2 games, then flying back to soCal for 3 games with the Angels. And HERE they finally get a couple of days off? It’s less than a 2 hour drive from SD to OC, but a good 10 hours round trip travel time on this schedule. And had they finished up with the Rockies, Denver would have been on the way home following the road trip. Sure it’s computer generated, maybe. My money remains on the Sox.

As someone who meant to post it and forgot to do so because I'm ridiculously sleep-deprived myself these days, I can attest that the flight into Houston explains 100% why they "played like crap" in what would seem to be a big game. And they still would have won the game without bad luck.
If Pedey can't make it back, we'll be stuck with Nunez, but Nunez as a guy who is strictly a bench player (spelling Devers versus some lefties on the road but, hopefully, never starting at 2B) is a potential asset. I mean, you really don't need Dustin Pedroia as the last man on your bench. In the meantime, Chavis plus Devers' legitimate breakout, and Vazquez hitting like I pointed out all winter he was capable of (*) ... that more than makes up for any failure of Mookie and/or JDM to live up to last year.
(*This is not to say he won't go ice cold at some point. He's been more JBJ-ish tha people realize. But he's showing the hit tool he has always had.)
A batting order I'd love to see, from someone who has argued for the need to hit Betts second:
Betts Devers JDM Bogaerts Moreland / Bradley (whoever is hot) Chavis Bradley / Moreland Vazquez Benintendi
See what I did there? I call this a rank-shifted lineup. Whenever you have a good leadoff guy who, however, is not one of your four or five best hitters overall, write the lineup with him at leadoff and then put him ninth and move everyone up one.

Man, this game threads can be unreadable sometimes because of all these Debbie Downers! We hit for like 2 Miles worth of HRs and hard lineouts and we lose to a team that the hardest hit they got is was a 320 ft pop up of a home run....but hey our experts here think that this team is not good and can't win against the good teams! Lol I don't get this inferiority complex that some keep carrying from last year. Bitching and moaning about the bullpen, the situational hitting (2 of the most random aspects of baseball). Tell you what: I'll take my boys to battle against any MFing team out there and feel good about my chances! It's a deep, young, talented lineup that will draw walks, hit dingers AND hit for average! We have power hitters, we have pure hitters, we can steal a base anytime we want and we have a very very good rotation and a couple of good reliever, one of them happens to be elite and flexible in terms of usage contrary to last year where we have a prima Donna of a closer and a 4 elite hitters and 5 hitters with OPSs ranging from .700 to .500. Baseball season is a marathon and some here don't seem to understand that. They see the MFY up top and OH MY GOD, WE'RE NOT GONNA WIN THE DIVISION AND WE MAY LOSE IN THE WILD CARD GAME!!!! Seriously, why keep watching baseball if you think that the battle for the division is over? Do something else instead if we have no chance. we can always count on you, brother !!!!

I don't think we will be stuck with Nunez - Holt or, even better, Marco Hernandez far preferable!

In baseball, things do even out (in life as well). Last year so much went right. This year various things are going not quite the way we hoped to...the team is fighting through it, and I think they will be in the playoffs after a pretty interesting, pretty challenging season. My view, anyway. Moods will certainly fluctuate game to game (we are all intense fans - reason these threads are pretty meaningless to read after the fact - they are raw emotion). But...it's a long season, we are over .500, have lots of talent. Pretty lucky in that respect, methinks (we, as Red Sox fans).

Good Lord....buzzard luck. That's what I was saying: These guys wins against us have been extremely lucky for 2 years now! Heck, take a look at game 1 and 2 against them in the ALCS: Springer's"double" vs Price, Cora's 2 RBI singles in game 1 and 2...Crazy shit!

Is there any way to estimate the hypothetical distance on that would-be HR by Devers? My goodness, what a shot.
