The baseball gods are saying "you had your year last year. If you think this year will be the same, you are in for a surprise" (which we've been observing!)

You can't afford to make mistakes against good teams.

The baseball gods are saying "you had your year last year. If you think this year will be the same, you are in for a surprise" (which we've been observing!) I think that everyone expects last year's team to show up every night, but last year's team was arguably the best Red Sox team ever. They were not just lucky (Having the "breaks" go their way), they were extremely talented and dominant. This year's team looks disproportionately bad because A. They've had a difficult early schedule. B. They have had 3.5 true starters. C. They're being compared to their own ghosts of a truly historic season. This stretch is brutal 33 games in 34days or whatever. We'll have an idea what we are when this stretch is done. By comparison Houston is the hottest team in baseball, yet we have played them pretty close. It seems like every game we're losing by only a run or two against them. Look at tonight for example ... Our starter went 2/3 of an inning and the game is still in reach. Houston is better, but the difference is not as drastic as it looks.

We can’t squander this go-ahead run!

LOL for every good thing we do, a bad thing. Tie it up with runners on first and third no outs, can't get anything else

Huge blown opportunity. Go ahead run on third with none out. We needed Steve Pearce from last year
Devers,Vazquez and Chavis carrying the team. Never thought I’d say that

Man, this team lacks the killer instinct. Last year's team would have scored the go-ahead run and maybe more.
I do like seeing Osuna fail.
But now the Sox have to try to win in extras which will be difficult. How they failed to score the go-ahead run with 1st and 3rd and no freaking outs is beyond me.
I guess it's because I must have jinxed them. I came downstairs to watch when they had tied the score with no outs so naturally they were awful with me watching them - so I won't watch them.

If they hold the line there's no one left to hit when the pitcher's spot comes back up

Never thought I’d say that I don't know what it is but whenever there is no outs and a runner at 3b and the first batter fails to bring him home, the next two batters fail, too. Don't know why it seems that way but it does.

We should have gotten more out of that inning.
Still, I love watching Osuna fail.

Barnes is just doing his best Kimbrel heart attack impression! Hes going to get out of it. He planned this.

The baseball gods are saying "you had your year last year. If you think this year will be the same, you are in for a surprise" (which we've been observing!) This is correct. Last night and tonight are the types of games the Sox won last year. Seem like a bat short too many times this year.

Rare to have the full lineup hitting on all cylinders so far this year. Tonight, Betts, Moreland and Bogaerts were a 1-13 hole. Devers and Chavis hit, JBJ did not. (and of course, Leon will always be a black hole). Can't get rallies, can't drive in runs if the line up is out of synch.

Again. A well deserved loss. When you strand a small village 2 games in a row you get what you deserve.

Again. A well deserved loss. When you strand a small village 2 games in a row you get what you deserve. We don't have hitters capable of hitting bloopers into the OF like Tyler White did

Just good enough to lose. Spin it how you like. A loss is a loss. That's 1-6 now against the best the AL has to offer. They'll probably get swept tomorrow. Who knows which E-Rod will show up tomorrow. Even if the good one shows up will they capitalize on their opportunities?
I'm not even sure - in retrospect if it would have been better for the Sox to have taken the lead. They would likely have blown that lead in the last of the 9th. This was as empty a comeback as a team can have. Tie the game, blow an easy opportunity to take the lead, and then quickly give it away right thereafter.
So now they're 7.5 games behind the Yankees.
I don't think it's crazy to think that they're not going to finish 1st this year. I mean, if you're not a Red Sox homer, would you really think that the Yankees are suddenly going to tank once they get the rest of their team (outside of Severino and Andujar) back?
I can believe the Sox will go on a run, but I have trouble believing they'll sustain a run big enough and long enough to win the division.
I think the Yankees will win 100 - 103 games.
The Sox are 27-25. To win 100, they'd have to go 73-37, just a tad under last year's entire season pace. Last year's team could do that, but I don't think this year's team can or will do that. I do think this team can go 66-44 which is .600 ball - excellent baseball actually, and wind up with 93-69, but that won't win the division. That might not even get the first wild card.
And yeah, I agree with the person who said it's time to get Moreland out of the #3 hole. Devers should be reinstated in that spot between Betts and Martinez.

This team won’t win anything if they continue to play terribly vs other crappy teams.
