Probably no one cares about this, but I'm a big fan of his. (lead singer of Janes Addiction) That's pretty cool - and so random. Perry Farrell, of all people, in Boston with a Papi jersey. Love it.

I just moved a whole lot of nonsense to Throwdown.
There is tabloid reporting and speculation about the shooting. If you want to deal in that bullshit, it's in Throwdown.
Let's move on here.

This whole thing, since the initial "shot in the leg during attempted robbery" reports the night it happened, has been a master lesson in why not to jump to conclusions until all the facts are in.

Lets not go down that road again...Duterte and Kavanaugh will be involved soon, and nobody wants that.

Eleven suspects have been arrested. They planned a murder and confused someone as easily recognizable as Ortiz wearing a $2k shirt? I think it's best for all parties involved if that's the "offical" story. Is it coincidence that his car was ran off the road a month ago?

The way I am interpreting the bulk of the reports is that they haven't named the top yet. Only the bagman who planned the hit.
ADD: There are apparently now 13 indictments and if I have it correct, an indictment in the Dominican is far more serious than the USA because they can be held for up to a year with no bail while the case awaits trial.

No motive yet given as to why the "supposed target" was the intended target. According to the AP story, there is a motive. See below. "The Dominican Republic's attorney general and national police director told reporters that the attempted murder was ordered from the United States by Victor Hugo Gomez, an associate of Mexico's Gulf Cartel. They said Gomez had hired a gang of killers to eliminate his cousin, whom Gomez suspected of turning him in to Dominican drug investigators in 2011.The cousin, Sixto David Fernandez, was seated with the former baseball star on the night of June 9, when a gunman approached and fired a single shot at Ortiz, the officials said. Fernandez owned an auto-repair shop and was friends with Ortiz, according to Attorney General Jean Alain Rodriguez and Maj. Gen. Ney Aldrin Bautista Almonte, director of the Dominican Republic's national police."

The gunman would have to be an idiot (plausible). Here's a pic of Sixto that night:

Yea but think of the Karma:
Guy doing good by turning in drug dealer isn’t shot.
Guy doing bad by having an affair is shot
If that’s not karma i don’t know what is....
Jokes just jokes... too soon?

It's a bad look for the DR and a bad look for Ortiz. The gunman would have to be pretty incompetent to miss and shoot a national icon at ~15 feet, though now that I type that out it doesn't seem so improbable that the lowlife just missed and hit Ortiz instead. It would certainly offer one explanation for the fact that only one shot was taken, which I thought was one of the strangest parts of the whole thing. (The other explanation, of course, would be that whoever had Ortiz shot wanted to send a warning, which lines up with the allegations of Ortiz messing around with the wrong woman).

Unless the gunman was somewhat experienced, it's difficult to say one way or another. Not the same but I can tell you from experience that the anxiety level is considerably higher when you have had time to think about it than when it's reactionary, particularly the first couple of times.

Didn't they say the gun was a semi-auto? IIRC from the video he walked right behind him and shot him. I heard the would be murderer mistook Ortiz and the other guy because of their pants? That they wouldn't have been able to really see and Ortiz was wearing different colors anyways. If those details are wrong then forgive me. My guess is the guy was scared out of his mind to murder an icon like Ortiz, pulled a gun quick to fire, thought a gut shot would do it and tried to bolt. You saw what they did to the guy on the motorcycle. Imagine if they grabbed the the guy who shot him. The only chance this guy has at not being murdered in prison is if he can convince people he's just stupid and incompetent. Idk, if I'm a murderer and I see two guys sitting together and I don't know who I'm suppose to murder I either A. Confirm the target or B. Just shoot them both.

I believe nothing coming from the Dominican, from Papi's lawyers or what passes for law enforcement. The truth is going to have to come elsewhere.
The Globe Spotlight Team is connected to the RS through Henry's ownership of the BG. It's a very big story. I don't think they will ignore things.

Yeah on Ortiz contreversy, I believe no one will know the real truth behind it.
I don't really care what dirt he's got on him. He didn't deserve this and nothing he did will ever cast a shadow from me and how I view him right now. He was a victim.
He's the most important player in Red Sox history. I am glad I helped pay for that man's salary as I watched him play a bunch of times at Fenway. I feel like I owe this man a lot more on top of it, even though that's not the case.
I don't know why anyone is posting anything bad about Ortiz. This team would have been nothing without him. Go pick on someone else please. I implore you. Dude is a hero to me.
