"The Orioles have acquired OF Elio Prado (17) and INF Noelberth Romero (17) from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for RHP Andrew Cashner. Prado will be assigned to the DSL Orioles 1 and Romero will be assigned to the DSL Orioles 2.
Was hearing Phillies had major interest in Cashner but Red Sox get him #orioles"

This is the type of trade we all hoped for. Save the bullets for another day. Adds a viable piece to the rotation who has been really good as of late. I approve. +1 for DD.

His peripherals are bad, as usual. This is a regular season move.

Cashner isn't too exciting even with his recent success, but at least he can throw innings. Probably a Jake Peavy type of addition. They're even paying salary which I assume still keeps them under the 2nd threshhold.
He does have a vesting option for next year that I haven't found yet.

[Crasnick] Andrew Cashner’s 2020 vesting option with #Orioles is for $10M. Option vests with 340 IP combined in 2018-2019. If he throws 360 IP combined in 2018-2019, it becomes a player option.

Thanks, not likely to vest then since he only had 153 last season.

[quote author=" ericmvan" Andrew Cashner, FA with an option, has had insanely great luck on balls in play (.288 wOBA, .344 xwOBA adjusted). No thank you.
[/quote] Welp, Eric won't be pleased. For the cost, I think this is a good move if he's seen as nothing more than a potential inning-eating 5th starter, the dashing of my dreams of acquiring Jon Gray or Thor not withstanding

Yeah, that has no chance of vesting. So just a one year deal.

Elio Prado was one of the guys I liked on this DSL team, but you make that trade every day of the week. Great deal for Boston.

Prado and Romero were two guys having relatively decent success in the DSL. In fact, I was thinking of writing up a Red Sox fringe five prospect post and was going to include Prado who I like. That said....these are 2 DSL dudes, seems like a good deal. Prado was slashing .303/.400/.418 with 3 HR and 9 SB (5 CS). Romero was slashing .264/.336/.364 with 2 HR and 2 SB (1 CS). I've seen positive reports on Romero's D in the past too as he probably has a chance to stick at SS.

I very rarely get excited about DSL kids unless they got big bonuses or are just completely ridiculous. Would have been a little more upset if Brainer was included.

Actually Cashner looks like a perfect guy to be preceded by an opener.

Elias said trade talks with #redsox for about a week. They were most aggressive and made best offer. #orioles want to improve international talent in system

He is at 249.1 innings now. He would have to pitch 90 innings for the Sox. He could make 14 starts. He would have to average about 6.5 inningds per start. This season he has averaged a little less than 6 innings per start.

You do that by actually spending your international money. They should be trading for the best talent period.
