I don't agree that Graterol is fat. I also don't agree that conditioning is unimportant. Sabathia and Wells succeeded when they put on too much weight, a lot of other guys did not. "He's fat but so was CC Sabathia" is the same as "Pitcher X has no control but Nolan Ryan walked a lot of guys." Exceptions are exceptions for a reason.
But that doesn't apply here because he's really not fat.

Fat pitchers never work out. David Wells and CC Sabathia were just awful. They never last long either. Look at how short Bartolo Colon's career was. You want to argue he has shoulder problems, that's fine. This narrative that he's a bad prospect because he's fat is asinine. It's like... not even really clear that he's fat? Frankly, when I first saw him pitch, I thought he looked slightly thicker than Kimbrel. I really don't get the weight issue.

Agreed. I expected a Mickey, "I don't pitch with my stomach" Lolich, rotundus Americanus type. I couldn't believe from the pics that he was 265 lbs. Guy is solid. Listed heights and weights are notoriously inaccurate. If a guy doesn't look 265, it's probably because he's not.

But that doesn't apply here because he's really not fat. When the Sox first got him the weight jumped out at me because I questioned if this was a lazy kid not taking his conditioning seriously or maybe a kid who wasn't properly informed about nutrition, etc, but after looking at him and finding out more about him, I don't see that as the case. It's something to watch but he wears it well. I wouldn't have guessed he weighed that much simply by looking at him and I don't see a fat out of shape guy at all, and from everything I've read or heard, there are no attitude or immaturity issues of any sort- quite the opposite. It's really all about his arm. If he were healthy and capable of being a starter, that would be a helluva get for the Red Sox. It's a downer that he isn't. Maybe he could be the next Papelbon - I mean that has value, just not as much as the potential #2 type starter they thought they might be getting.

I hate the trade and am not pleased with Graterol, but, in fairness, I look at video and actually see a pretty solid looking kid. Zero complaints on body-type.

In the last year I’ve gone from about 190 to 200 lbs, I guess I’m approaching 300

That's very far down on my list of concerns in regards to him. If he was "fat" with a healthy elbow/shoulder I'd take him in a heartbeat.

I like getting Verdugo & Downs.
But after listening to Bloom talk tonight I continue to be unimpressed & don’t understand how anybody who watched/listened to him could be.

Did you expect him to say that the only reason they traded Mookie was to get under the CBT threshold?

I promise you that you're the only person who feels this way. If you meet an idiot, then you've met an idiot. If everyone you meet is an idiot...

Did you expect him to say that the only reason they traded Mookie was to get under the CBT threshold? I prefer transparency, but no, I didn't expect him to tell the truth. Of course, the CBT factored into it as did the fact that they didn't want to pay Mookie $400 million for 12 years, but I didn't expect him to say it. So he basically hinted at the one thing he could: that he'd rather spread the money around and have flexibility than sink it into the ultimate superstar. I don't expect Bloom to chase guys at the very top of the salary structure, so when the next Manny Ramirez is available I don't expect Bloom to make a huge bid. I think he's going to run the Sox the way he helped run TB, but with greater flexibility for more depth. I think he's going to try to build a deeper 25 or even 40 man roster instead of concentrating on the top of the roster. I still think you need your stars, but I think that's what his aim is.

Dombrowski was very well spoken and he torched the team payroll last year, paving the way for Betts' departure. As far as I'm concerned, Bloom could grunt his way through a news conference as long as he makes moves that get the Sox back on track.
