I don't understand why people are trying to move Bradley in this deal. Did demainah finally win subliminally? Also, the Padres don't need an outfielder in return. They moved Margot because they were deep there. Per Fangraphs Roster Resource, their current lineup has Pham-Grisham-Franchy left to right, with Naylor, Trammell, and Olivares all in AAA. They have depth in the outfield still. If the point for SD is to shed Myers' contract, I'm not sure why an $11M JBJ in return would be something they'd be interested in either. I don’t think they would want JBJ nor do I think we should trade him. IMO, Chavis would be one that would be moveable. He’s got more trade value that could net us more prospect return. Chavis is also the only person the Sox have who can play 2b for when/if peraza flops again at the position, outside of recently outrighted marco hernandez and utility players Lin, Rule 5 Arauz.. doubt he's going anywhere now that Holt has signed with Milwaukee. Also can see taking on Myers being attached to acquiring some kind of a young pitcher. Just look at what is left via FA.. it's barren now and they didn't get any kind of a pitcher back in the Betts deal with 2 AAAA retreads making up (now) the last 2 spots in the rotation. Another starter has to be brought on and getting another young starter is more important than a kid catcher.

If Myers comes here, IMO that leaves Chavis and Arauz to go. However, if Verdugo starts the season on the IL, they could trade someone else off the 40 man like Weber, I suppose. I include Chavis to bring back more value back. I think he’s a perfect guy to sell high on. If and when Peraza crashes, we’ve got Arauz, Lin, and Hernandez. I don’t think not having Chavis saves the season.

I’ll add that if the Friars give $30m along with Myers, there’s no way the give Campusano without something decent in return. Arias and Quantrill possibly.

Do you realize what you've done?! Now the next 20 posts are going to be people guessing who the 40-man player headed back to SD will be. ....my guess is Arauz. I was guessing Martin Perez who the Sox have been holding for whatever reason. Maybe there's method to their madness. I could be wrong but because they signed Perez as a free agent, I don't believe they can trade Perez without his permission at least until June 15th??.

The RS have a lot of levereage here. The universe of teams willing to take on $37.5 million in payouts to Wil Myers is small. That's what the RS will owe Myers if the Pads fork over $30 million, as has been reported. The RS might be a universe of one.
That being the case, they should demand Campusano, the Padres CB pick and some international signing money. If the Pads turn them down, the RS can offer to take less money back for Myers. If the Pads kicked in, let's say, $24 million, instead of $30 million, that would still leave the RS stuck with an AAV of only $5.8 million for a player who might bounce back to the 2-WAR level.
I'm big on the RS demanding CB picks and international signing money whenever they can. This seems like the perfect opportunity.

Completely agree on the CB picks, This is exactly how the Sox should be using their payroll advatange. Take on a portion of a bad contract to secure young talent. It's a much more viable way to build a sustainable winner than paying top dollar for free agents, or giving out 10 year contracts. I know I'm on an island right now, but very bullish on Bloom & the direction the team is going...

If the Sox deal for Myers, his playing time will be cut in half. His value won’t be any higher than it is now.

You're forgetting the most important part of value which is he wasn't very good for most of last year. It's pretty insane to think that his value can't get higher, all he has to do is play well.

I haven’t seen anything this offseason that would make me interested in Quantrill. Just don’t see the draw. Campusano would make it worth it though.

Chavis has played multiple positions, however he is undersized to be an everyday first baseman, and he is not particularly good at second base (remember the troubles turning a double-play). He is best suited to play third base however he is not going to move Devers from there. At the plate, he had one good month and then dropped off significantly as the season progresses. IMO, these things are more likely to be further exposed as the season progresses than the other way around.......sell high if you have the chance.

I'm impressed at the turnaround on this board from "the Red Sox organization are a bunch of immoral money-grubbers for trading Mookie to improve the team long-term and get under the salary tax threshold" to "great plan to get the Padres to give us a bunch of prospects for straight cash." I suppose it's not logically inconsistent, exactly; it's just... something.

I see Chavis as the future DH of this team once JDM leaves at some point. Kid can hit and hit for power, but defensively is in no man's land right now for the reasons you mentioned. The DH spot would also help his questionable durability too. He's probably a better hitter than Dalbec.

I agree about Quantrill who would be like a rotation filler/Rt 95 shuttle guys. You need to get a top 10 prospect plus either CB and/or international pool money to acquire Myers who has been pretty bad the past few years.

In fairness, he was mostly just injured 2 years ago no? 1.6 fwar and 2.4 bwar in 83 games. (not great for the money he was being paid sure but . . .).

I don't see no reason why the Sox can't get that compensatory pick plus Campusano and Quantrill added in with cash with Myers. Heavy price to pay, but the Sox are giving up the same amount of money they gave to Moncada back in the day. Should get that kind of package of talent in return for all that money.

I agree. The pads aren’t going to give away the keys to the prospect vault just to move Myers. The Myers move is likely to set up a larger move which is gong to require them to spend some of their prospect capital (Lindor, Senzel).

Preller is likely on the hot seat and from others have said it’s likely wild card or else this season. They’ve spent big the last 2 winters with only middling results. I think he’s looking to score a really impactful player to get them there. Moving Myers is just a means to and end. With that being said, I’m thinking they are gong to be saving the big guns for the later move. Quantrill and some combination of a comp pick or Arias would be a great get.

You guys are just setting yourself up for disappointment. In the Mookie thread when the deal first broke and a 3rd team was involved there were posts thinking we could get Verdugo AND Senzel. Setting ourselves up for disappointment is in our DNA As an aside I like the idea of getting Quantrill a lot. I know, I know...unpopular opinion. You have to take his MiLB stats with a grain of salt considering the spots and leagues he’s had to pitch in. I think he can be a quality backend starter, which is what we need. Get another good prospect or two on top of that and im good to go

Looking at Quantrills game logs he had three straight games in late August early Sept where he gave up 8 ERs in each and the next start more ERs than innings. That could skew some stats. Wonder if it was a tired arm coming back from TJ or tipping? I could get behind him and that comp pick.
