. I just have a hard time seeing the sox moving a centerpiece of their franchise to another position to make room for a younger SS. Hell maybe Xander would do it, but asking him to suddenly learn OF when he's 32 doesn't seem like something that would happen. Have you met John Valentin? Rico Petrocelli and Johnny Pesky moved off of SS as well for Luis Aparicio and Vern Stephens respectively.

This is odd…so unbelievably happy about the Mayer pick….completely content with whoever Bloom gets at 40. Having said that…now going to list some favorites. Solometo: lefty HS arm. Will Taylor: worked out for Red Sox Josh Baez: local kid, stupid power, huge arm and surprisingly fast Gage Jump: described as a left handed Jack Leiter (short, fastball hitters just don’t see) If we need to save a little after snagging Mayer Mikulski: lefty senior signAaron Zavala: data darling, exit velocity, average, power, plate discipline. History of playing third but would really have to work to stay there. Anyway guys this has been fun, what a great result yesterday. Here’s to today but for me we’re playing with the house’s money at this point. I'm definitely on board. Obviously at this point everyone has wider flaws (too expensive, one tool too few, reliever risk, or in this case a little older so less projection) but Mikulski seems like a great combo of the things the Sox should want. Pitcher with path to starter-dom, likely signable. I think a lot of the other names aren't gonna work. I don't think Mayer gets $8M, but $7.5M seems like a ceiling. It's halfway between #2 and #3 and is the 2nd highest price for a non #1 overall since 2017 (after Bobby Witt at $7.8M). Otherwise picks 2-5 have peaked at $7-$7.25M in that time, so Mayer might come out a little lower than $7.5M, especially since he wasn't really a consensus #1. At $7.5M, that eats all of the $567k overage on +5%, and then needs $286k more. If they "buy" all of that back with pick 2, that means paying slot value for pick 47 ($1.58M) at pick 40 ($1.86M slot). Not a huge drop. Then you use slot for a while and use senior signs to get leeway in the later rounds. I wonder if the Sox have any outstanding promises that would eat into that and require steeper cuts.

Agreed, I’ve been looking at college players in the 60s range and HS guys in the 70s-100 range for the next pick. Ky Bush looks intriguing. Huge lefty out of St. Mary’s. Sits 94. Good slider. Got hit harder than anybody I’ve ever seen in his freshman season at Washington state but rebounded big time at a juco and pitched well for St. Mary’s Little afraid of the reliever profile with Bush. Not a long history of command or control, mechanics still not super refined (could be a plus depending on your perspective), and not necessarily playing in an elite conference. Wouldn't hate it as a save-some-money move, but even there not sure it would be my personal top choice for a pitcher. Definitely has his fair share of warts. He’d definitely be a save-some-money move

This is why you tank during a short 60 game no fan season

This is why you tank during a short 60 game no fan season Precisely. Last year's "season" was so oddball, who cares what happened? What a time to flush a year down the toilet to get a high pick.

Can you point to a good one? Didn't find one on Twitter Here's 8 minutes. Sometimes in fielding practice he does Iglesias tricks, transferring the ball behind his back or through his legs. And here is 6+ minutes of hitting, some in games I remember when the Sox drafted Michael Chavis in the first and Michael Kopech in the Supplemental round. That was seven summers ago.

Have you met John Valentin? Rico Petrocelli and Johnny Pesky moved off of SS as well for Luis Aparicio and Vern Stephens respectively. Probably the most notable instance of this was when Jeter (both Bogie's and Mayer's hero, fwiw) refused to move off SS for A-Rod.

I'm hoping he asked for an exorbitant amount from the first three teams to steer himself to a team he preferred, and the amount he eventually agrees to allows us to take a shot at another highly ranked player. We'll find out shortly.

Only a few picks left before the Yankees pick and there are only a few picks that would scare me, and I imagine that a few of them are unsignable at this point.

This is why you tank during a short 60 game no fan season Precisely. Last year's "season" was so oddball, who cares what happened? What a time to flush a year down the toilet to get a high pick. The combination of COVID (right up my alley education/training-wise), the Mookie trade (I will always be pissed they didn’t get Patiño, and that Mookie signed right away, meaning he probably orchestrated it), and the weirdness of the season—especially no minors—and I spent all of 1 hour on baseball last year. I’ve never been remotely that disinterested about baseball. It was way worse even than my every-Sunday-watchin’ to “meh, better things to do” response to the ‘07 Pats (luck or no, they just got out-hustled…still kills me). I was *psyched* they stunk once the year ended, though, for exactly the reason you say. Sorry, 2020 Dodgers, but it doesn’t really count.

Worst case scenario I'd be thrilled with Lawlar. Hoping for Leiter. Can't imagine Mayer falls to 4. On advice, I’m re-reading pp 9-12 and this is the best way it could’ve started.
