I'm going to say it. JBJ needs more time in AAA, at least defensively in LF. He's misplayed several balls in the corner and just ole'd the Arencibia ball into a double (and good thing Ells backed it up, or it would have been more).

Did I imagine this or did Orsillo say "Mark de la Rosa"?

How can you not love Koji Uehara? Guy gets outs, and he's a lot of fun ...

Second and third with no outs, and of course the Sox strike out three times in a row. I think that makes them 2/14 with RISP tonight.

The Tazawa-Encarnacion at bat really demonstrates how bad of a pitch-framer Saltalamacchia is. The second and third pitchers were both solidly in the strike zone per Pitch F/X, but Salty stabs at both pitches really late and, as a result, both get called balls. It didn't end up hurting them, but you hate to see your catcher ruin great pitches like that.

NOW let's take advantage of scoring position baserunners!

Wow. Absolute laser beam there by Middlebrooks. 6-4.

Marketing BS aside ... this is a pretty fun team to watch.

Hanrahan brings the heat....I think that is why he has control trouble. They guy is trying to throw it through the backstop on every pitch.
But 3-1...love it.

Wow. Absolute laser beam there by Middlebrooks. 6-4. He had really stung a few balls the past few nights, just had bad luck with nothing dropping. Tonight he dumped that one against the wall on a hop to center and rifled one over the fence. Excited to see him take on a full season. Also, what I really took away from this game is that Uehara's glove is massive. Like, way too big. What gives?

Who cares if he keeps pitching like he is.

While I actually agree in general, I have a hard time faulting him for not catching a ball he really had no business being anywhere near to begin with. It looks bad because it just about landed on his shoe, but anybody else out there and they wouldn't have been within ten feet of that ball.

I like that he's ultra aggressive in LF. The problem is that when your CF who is backing him up obviously has an absolutely god awful arm, it's not always worth it. It's something that comes with time playing together, not that JBJ and Ells will probably end up playing that much together anyways. Could he use some more time in AAA, sure. But right now they don't really have much of an upgrade available on the MLB roster. Get him his 20 days in Pawtucket and other than that, at least as of right now, I don't mind him staying in Boston. Obviously if he starts to struggle at the plate for a long period, send him down. But Nava/Gomes are both at best mediocre fielders and average base runners (Gomes is slow but he seems to be smart, Nava mediocre)

Yeah, to me, it's pretty clear that JBJ could use some time in AAA. He has trouble with some pitches when he's batting, he's a little erratic in left, etc. He's also got a great approach at the plate overall, knows how to work the strike zone, and is just an all around good ballplayer. He's going to be a solid guy for years.
In the end, we all made too big a deal over the decision at the end of spring training. He's up while Ortiz is hurt, and barring injury, he'll go to AAA for at least 20 days when Papi comes back. He'll have a pretty good idea on what he needs to work on, he'll do that, and then he'll probably be up and down for the rest of the year as injury cover and up for years and years beginning next season.

I agree and wish he would make it official by starting his pitches at 2nd base, do the Fred Fflinstone twinkle toes routine before every two strike pitch.

Ciriaco starting at short today. Drew in the Portland lineup, despite cleaning his locker out last night... weird.

Britton has already made a start for portland. does this mean that he already didn't get sentenced to jail for DUI or is that yet to happen?

Britton has already made a start for portland. does this mean that he already didn't get sentenced to jail for DUI or is that yet to happen? Usually, takes a few months. Plus, his lawyer can ask for it to be delayed. Which I'm sure he'll do until the baseball season is over.

I'm actually kind of excited for Lackey today.
Although I probably won't be at 3:00 PM

I'm actually kind of excited for Lackey today. Although I probably won't be at 3:00 PM I'm not ashamed to say that I'm rooting pretty hard for Lackey ... he got a raw deal in 2011, pitching with an elbow in tatters. I hope he can pitch well. Would also be a huge boost to the team if he did. edit to add: And a nice-looking first inning for Lackey. Just one inning, but he's at 92-93, moving it around the edges of the zone, cutter getting into the hands of left-handers ...
