Per NESN, it's a "right bicep strain" and Juan Nieves is optimistic about the injury.

Okay it's early in the ear but what is left of the team from last year that gave you a bad taste I.e. (Lackey and Aceves) should be jettisoned A.S.A.P. I know the deal with Lackey but with the payroll flexibility we can afford it. I have seen nothing from Aceves this year. There's more younger and hungier options in AAA.

Lackey's a big dude, you might sprain your own bicep throwing him under the bus like that.

Lackey wasn't on last year's team, so any "bad taste" would come from 2011. After finding out Lackey was pitching through a serious arm injury in 2011 I put the season in proper context and everyone else should too. The fans and media have been (very) unfair with Lackey and I'm rooting for him as much as anyone on the team. Aceves needs to go soon though, I just hate seeing his face at this point.

Alex Wilson is a potential call up. He is already on the 40-man and has started before. He could be a very good long-man. Anything to get rid of Aceves I am fine with.

Wilson hasn't thrown an outing of at least three innings since 4/19/12. When he moved to the bullpen, he had only two occasions when he didn't get at least two days off between appearances. He's simply not a candidate to be a long guy, nor is he supposed to be. Now, as a potential call-up for middle relief, with Mortensen taking the long-man role, fine. If they need a spot start, it's going to be one of Aceves, Wright, or Webster.

I second this thought. Lackey has at times had an attitude that rubs people the wrong way. However lumping him in with what happend last year is unfair. I'm rooting for him to be a solid 4 the next three years.

Hernandez is starting tonight in Pawtucket and was setup to shadow Lackey ( I don't think coincidentally )
Give him three starts then see if Webster is ready depending on how he does.
Make sense?

I would love for Hernandez to get a shot, but he's not on the 40 man roster, and there isn't anyone on there that jumps out as a great candidate to be DFA. Aceves/Gomez/Carp could all be potential 40 man drops, but with Wright and Webster already on the 40 man roster they'll get a shot first

Does JBJ look a little over-matched in the bigs so far? Or is he just off to a bit of a slow start? Still very early though. When Ortiz is back, it wouldn't be bad to send him back to Pawtucket so he can be work on a few things and delay his service time...

Bradley has struggled with hard stuff on the inner half of the plate. At least twice he's way overswung against inside fastballs but still failed to make contact.

I think he's struggling against some pitchers he probably shouldn't be in there against. I believe he'll get sent down. I've got no problem with that. But, I think our best line-up against rhp's is with him in LF. Especially, on the road. At home, Nava is fine.

Aceves/Gomez/Carp could all be potential 40 man drops, but with Wright and Webster already on the 40 man roster they'll get a shot first Gomez has already been DFA. I doubt they would DFA Carp for a pitcher since there are few 1st basemen in the high minors. Aceves has an option, if I remember correctly.

Though he's still listed on the 40 on this site so at least I'm not completely losing my mind. Aceves having an option wouldn't figure into Hernandez getting a start, as even if he's optioned down, there still isn't a spot open on the 40. I agree on the Carp option, just listed him because he's one of the poorer players on the 40. I'd say Hassan would be a candidate as he's prob not making an impact on the roster anytime soon, but they just put him there so clearly they see something in him. Aceves is really the only candidate on the pitching side, and I think it happens eventually. But not now for Hernandez as there are the options on the 40 already

I'll be shocked - SHOCKED - if Dickey gets crushed by AL lineups.
Oh wait, no I won't. The knuckleball's a garbage pitch.

Dickey seems like a genuinely good guy, hate to see him getting roughed up. But also glad to see the Sox swinging hot bats.

All of you who panicked about JBJ starting the year on the Sox can rest easy.
It's clear JBJ needs AAA time. He will be sent down when Ortiz returns. And to whomever was rooting for him to struggle out of the gate....congrats.

So in other words, it's garbage. No. It gets plenty of outs and has helped numerous pitchers careers. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it is garbage.
