This still is one of my favorite How about Mike Carp finally seeing a pitch today? Only one though, as he lined out to Reyes immediately. Seems like he's having a good time on the team though, I saw him laughing with Victorino in the dugout a couple times. Carp will have his day. I like this guy's potential.

All spring, I heard that Bradley should be a starting outfielder on the Red Sox based on present talent. It was about the Sox showing their commitment to winning by putting the best possible team on the field. And yes, we're still in the extremely small sample size phase of the season but he sure looks the part of a very talented player who nevertheless is going to need more than 200-odd AA plate appearances before he'll be ready for the big leagues. Nope. Maybe by some...but he was brought here because he was the best option for the Red Sox at the position RIGHT NOW with the injuries and such. You want to be all righteous and say you knew better than the Sox, so be it. But he was the best option coming out of Spring training. I believe this cup of tea will be good for him in the long run as he will now know what he needs to work on to improve at the big league level. But the fact that there were people actually hoping for him to fail, just so they could be right and say that he should have started in Triple A was so lame.[/b] You're misrepresenting what one, maybe two posters said. They were worried he would play to well to save the year of service time. Nobody said they wanted him to fail.

I know WMB is never going to be Longoria, but boy his swing is glorious and when he's on he's a force of nature.

I know WMB is never going to be Longoria, but boy his swing is glorious and when he's on he's a force of nature. Two observations, both taken from last year's and this year's Baseball Prospectus. He has tremendous plate coverage, and he's seeing more pitches than the major league average. Those two work together. He knows what he's looking at and with his reach and that phenomenal bat speed he can get to anything in the zone. I think that makes him a little different than other low OBP guys. The test will come when teams simply refuse to pitch to him. He has such great raw power that it's going to happen. If his walk rate goes up then, he has a chance to become one of the better players in the league.

I've already reached a point with Middlebrooks questioning why anyone would throw him a fastball in the strike zone.

The most interesting thing about the first week of the season for me is easily Jacoby Ellsbury. If he can go back to 2011 Ellsbury, that would be huge for this team.

If he can go back to 2011 Ellsbury, that would be huge for this team. ...and he really doesn't need to go all the way back. A season with 40 stolen bases and, say, 20 home runs to go with a .300 average would be nice. I really don't expect him to go over .900 OPS, but then I didn't expect it last time. But if he's over .800, that's a valuable center fielder weak arm and all. One of the real pluses at this point is that defense. Three speedy outfielders, and a very good to excellent left side of the infield help a lot. Right now, there are quite a few pluses: hitting, fielding and relief work. Even the starting pitching has been a tick above. It's just six games, but it's great for the team to be coming back from a road trip 4-2.

Who gets the call if Lackey cant go? Webster is the logical choice given his spring but he is scheduled to go Wednesday and Lackey's spot is Friday. Rubby is scheduled to go Saturday and so is Barnes. The Pawsox pitcher scheduled for Friday is Doyle. Or they could make us all projectile vomit and throw in Aceves. Maybe they would have Webster go Thursday and Doubront Friday giving them both an extra day of rest, of course then we would be opening against Tampa with 2 straight lefties.

Or they could make us all projectile vomit and throw in Aceves. Unfortunately, this is your likely answer.

Napoli looks to me like a slightly more under control version of Beltre at the plate. I thought he was going to hit one off his back knee.

They have Rubby working only 3 innings at at time to start the year so he's out. Im guessing the order is Aceves, Wright then Webster.
