Raffy needs to be bunting there imo. I'm sorry. It's a free hit and this is a one run game, Xander and JDM coming up next. They also will be forced to abandon that defense outside of extreme situations if you've proven you will bunt through it. Maybe he's just atrocious at bunting, but if so, practice.

Everything about Whitlock is just great. Throws strikes, works quickly, nasty stuff, up for whatever role they put him in, and best of all locked up with the team affordably for a long time. Please do not be hurt.

Whitlock is what I dreamed Allen Webster might be.

Wow. Stole a game against a loaded team with our offense getting 3 hits and barely any solid contact. Great W

Bullpen has been nails (except a few Braiser blips)....... led by The Hammer. Our guys need to start hitting though. JBJ, Bobby, and JDM have to show more.

Wong looks good defensively. Not sure about offense. He looks really small to me. Does he have a good arm? I can accept a defense-first guy.

JBJ had a 110 wRC+ going into tonight, he hasn't been the problem at the plate. Offensively Story, Kiké and Arroyo have been much bigger lineup holes than he has. It's all a small sample and things will most likely regress eventually for all these guys, and this isn't meant to call out you specifically but I feel like that narrative has been going around in general.

Ugly win. Dalbec shows why contact still matters.

I think I feel as if those other guys are about to break out.... I see signs. JBJ looks like he will be a 240-15-55 guy. That is fine with his defense

I also agree that those guys are going to start performing better soon. For fun though here are some very SSS wOBA / xwOBA (delta) lines for these guys: JBJ: .325/.345 (-.020) Hernandez: .271/.287 (-.016) Story: .260/.224 (+.036) Arroyo: .150/.361 (-.210 !!) Dalbec: .250/.355 (-.105 !) So while I agree Kiké and Story will probably turn things around it's a good sign for Jackie that based on his expected stats his results could be even better so far. Arroyo and Dalbec really getting tough results based on this view. Among the regulars Xander, Story and JDM are outperforming their xwOBAs, everyone else is under performing. Hopefully the team gets some positive regression there overall.

Haven't caught one of his innings yet, how does Arroyo look in right? He's been okay to bad. It looks like he hasn't yet learned how to take his eye off the ball briefly while running to where the ball is going to land or determine quickly where that will be. He was largely responsible for the runs that Hill gave up in his first start in Detroit (which also has a big RF). Bad routes, balls fell in front of him (one he dove for and didn't look comfortable doing that).
SSS, so hope he improves.
Following up on this, I certainly thought today he looked better than bad overall.

Game takeaways.
2-1 wins are better than 8-7 wins.
Good on Wong to have the GWRBI. He looks comfy in the role.
Arroyo's strikeout with runners on 2nd and 3rd was an egregiously bad ump call.
Youk is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than Mazz

On a night where Devers/X go 0-8 you can still get it done with some good pitching and a SF from the Wong'man. Good start to 7 games with Tor next 10 days.
