Yankees out on Soto now, right?

Initial reaction is that’s kind of a gross quantity over quality selection of pitchers. But will give Breslow the benefit of the doubt and withhold too much judgement until we see how they replace Verdugo and how those guys do in the Sox system.

Uh okay.. thats a surprise. Gives breslow more money to work with I suppose.
I'm not familiar with the yankees farm. Any of these guys any good, or are we looking at a Benintendi type of return here?

Judice is 6'8", drafted last year. Absolute giant of a man.

Surprise it was to the yankees. Not surprised he's gone. I bet the yankees could still be in play for Soto

If they're setting up a pitching apparatus, I'm ok with quantity and getting something from these flier types. One season of Verdugo was never gonna fetch much.

So Mookie Betts for Richard Fitts, Greg Weissert and Nicholas Judice, Jeter Downs and Connor Wong

He just never really broke out
Curious if the Yankees flip him as part of a package for Soto
I no nothing of what we got, and it saves what 9-10 million? Maybe freeing space up for a large deal or two

Fitts is the main prize. He's going to start next season in the AAA rotation as I would guess our #11 prospect. Weissart looks like a fine up and down arm with a couple options that you're happy to have at the back of your 40. Judice signed for slot in last year's 8th round and hasn't gotten into a game yet
Seems like a fair trade to me.

This was a real quick Google search but first glance fitts looks intriguing, MLB.com had him ranked 12th in Yankees system. He had a solid year in AA. Weissert is 28 and doesn't seem much more a depth bullpen guy and judice not really much I saw about him.
I'll wait for more dominos but seems a strange deal unless Cora told breslow to get him out of Boston for whatever he can.

MLB pipelines outlook is more positive. He’s interesting at least.

There is ALOT to process here over the next couple hours/days about the trade and Verdugo’s tenure here. But the point that sticks out (to me at least) is how little they valued/fear Verdugo that they were willing to send him to their arch rival…
I guess this explains Cora FaceTiming Boone implying the Yankees had just made a move?

Whether or not the return is fair though, more importantly they need to replace Verdugo. If they want to bet on Rafaela or Abreu or some combo of those guys and Dalbec there’s a risk of another roster black hole like we’ve seen the last couple years.

Lets hope Breslow is as good at developing pitching as advertised because at first glance this looks like a salary dump.

IMO Verdugo had to go but my initial reaction was "is the best Craig could do?" -- especially to the Yanks. A quick Google search of the Yanks pitchers brought me off the ledge, and Craig obviously sees things in Fitts that make the trade a good one. So we should give him the benefit of the doubt. On the other hand, it is the Yanks, Verdugo is pretty good, and so I really, really hope Craig is right on this.

It seems obvious to me that this was the precursor to the Sox getting Soto, no?
(Obligatory, this is sarcasm).

Wow, can you imagine how much worse the Betts trade will look if the Yankees flip Verdugo as part of a package for Soto?

See? I hated Verdugo before it was cool to hate Verdugo. Now everyone can hop on the bandwagon !!
