I can't wait to hear what Verdugo has to say when he inevitably gets benched because Boone will be managing for his job this year.

It would not surprise me if Verdugo didn't last the full year in the Bronx. I just read that Dominguez is expected back sooner than later from his TJ surgery, long ways to go on that but if he is back and able to play OF one would assume their main OF will consist of Judge, Dominguez, Soto. I guess you could easily assume Stanton gets injured and Soto is mainly their DH but if somehow all their guys are healthy by June/July timeline Verdugo to me seems the odd man out in the equation.

I'm surprised Dugo is knocking his former manager going into his walk year. Cora will probably be asked about the Dugo comments in ST and if he responds by saying Dugo was a constant problem and gives examples, it wouldn't help Dugo's value on the market next winter.

Papelbon has some thoughts. I hope it's not too late to buy a Papelbon jersey...

Alright! Let’s breathe some life back into the MFY rivalry! …..not me. I want to see the MFY record for 2024 0-162! I would love to see them never win another game in the MLB (and all their fans go absolutely crazy!!!).

Meh Dugie was never gonna be here long term. Probably on his best behavior this year because it is a contract year. I have a feeling the entitlement he felt when he was here comes back to bite him when he hits FA.

They don't make them like they used to with Papelbon. He's 1000% right.

Good for ideal teammate, Jonathan Papelbon, to speak up! I've never seen a man bring a team together like he did in 2015 for the Nationals.

Mostly I'm just mad that we had a guy literally named "Executioner" and never got to scratch the surface of how badass that could have been.

Good for ideal teammate, Jonathan Papelbon, to speak up! I've never seen a man bring a team together like he did in 2015 for the Nationals. He has no patience for any young guy BS. Verdugo and Harper may have done things to get on people’s nerves, but both seem like genuinely nice guys that are trying to have fun and actually take the time to interact with fans. Nobody is perfect and you can’t please anyone, but Papelbon will certainly let you know when he isn’t pleased lol. He is a perfect example of an “ok boomer” type of personality, even though here I do think he was right to say Verdugo shouldn’t be publicly speaking ill about Cora. Verdugo’s personality was honestly my favorite part about him. His actual game was insanely boring and vanilla, but I think his personality gave him the clutch edge and I loved how he took time to talk to fans in the stands and actually answered questions honestly instead of giving typical sports jargon. I guess the flip side of his personality was a lack of drive at times, but I’d be lying if I said it was too noticeable to me once the game started. Didn’t Verdugo act tough with manoah than cower? Manoah is a complete tool and everyone hates him, including people in his own clubhouse. Hard to blame Verdugo for clapping back. Manoah’s storyline might have been my favorite of 2023 to be honest

What happened to the game I love! The 22-year-old MVP had just dogged it like the 27-year-old average player Papelbon called out today. I'm on HOFer Fisk's side on these matters. "There's a right way to play this game and a wrong way! You're playing it the wrong way and it offends old guys like me! If you don't start playing this game right, I'm gonna kick your ass right here!" Love it.

Good for ideal teammate, Jonathan Papelbon, to speak up! I've never seen a man bring a team together like he did in 2015 for the Nationals. My recollection of that incident was that the veteran Pap was tired of seeing the 22-yo star not run out yet another pop-up/grounder and he got in the kid's grill about it. Tempers flared. Moments later, manager Matt Williams sent Pap to the mound without batting an eye.
It was 9/27/15 and the Nats were in the middle of losing their 5th game out of six to essentially eliminate themselves from playoff contention and put the cherry on top of a huge second half collapse. The national media consensus was "Harper's your star player; talk to him in the clubhouse." My opinion at the time, as now, was if you want 22-yo Harper to become a leader, he needs to answer for his effort in public, not behind closed doors. Mentioning that he was their best player, as many did while defending him, was ridiculous IMO. Papelbon was over the line with the choke hold but if I'm a Nats fan, I want a veteran to call out Harper at some point. Or the manager needs to bench him for a game (sound familiar?).
Ultimately, Pap was welcomed back in 2016 and they replaced Williams and finished in 1st place. They let Harper walk two years later and promptly won the WS the following season. I have friends who live in DC and they have no remorse about letting Harper (now a 30-yo 1B) go. The fight is remembered as a sideshow at the end of a frustrating season -- full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

But just two years before that Harper was being criticized for playing too hard. www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/does-bryce-harper-play-too-hard/

Didn’t Verdugo act tough with manoah than cower? Verdugo was actually being a good teammate in that instance, nobody should have a problem with him for that. He essentially called him a clown for striking out guys like Dalbec and Franchy and yelling at them on their way back to the dugout. And he’s right! Striking out AAAA hitters and then screaming at them while showing them up is probably the bitchest thing a player has done against the Sox since Machado’s slide. Your version of “cowering” was actually him being mature for once and saying he regretted saying those things publicly on a podcast about Manoah, he should’ve said it man to man. Verdugo actually kinda owns him for their careers. Nothing gave me greater joy than watching Manoah’s career fall apart last year, it literally made me gleeful. I was checking complex league box scores where he’d get hammered and I’d be giggling and clapping like a child. I prayed on that tubby POS downfall and the prayers were answered. Let’s at least be fair about the things we hammer him about. These words about Cora- despite my complaints about him as a manager last year- deserve the blowback they’re getting from Sox fans and Papelbon. The issue is dead, Verdugo should have just kept his mouth shut but the immaturity that led to him being dealt reared its head again. Doesn’t seem like that’s gonna change, and if it doesn’t then the Sox made the right call to move on.

You chose to see Verdugo in a good light mature as you put it, because of your anger towards manoahs antics against the Red Sox. I see it differently I see it as him being timid when manoah didn’t back down. Btw I don’t care for manoah myself. We all are entitled to our opinion.
