I just have a bad feeling that this season could go off the rails REALLY quickly. You already have Kenley and Devers voicing their frustration on day 2 and the uncertainty about Cora’s future is going to hang over this season. It’ll make a really interesting Netflix show in 12 months but a pretty frustrating summer for fans.

Liam Hendriks signed yesterday and now Whitlock starts on Saturday. Is this what joy feels like? It’s been so long

So a day after you randomly share a retired franchise great is telling you to sign FAs, Devers says they need to be doing more as well. It’s like this front office just collectively lost their brains after 2019. Blah blah blah, messaging, blah blah blah. Devers has plenty of his own problems to worry about. Guy could be a better hitter, better defender and a better leader - but he's in already in excuse mode.

These dang baseball players making millions need to be good little robots.

The organizations star player should be vocal about encouraging them to compete as best they can. There have been deadlines in the past where I felt some of the players were a little misguided in their complaints, but right now it’s before the season starts, there is an obvious gap in the payroll and talent on the market to fill that gap and the corresponding roster hole, and yet the team is so far not choosing to pursue it.

Yeah, Devers should have pitched better, too, and of course if everybody hit like him theyd have a 110 loss team. Won't defend the bad defenseman 3b but it's obvious to most people, including players and former Red Sox players, other than ownership worshippers, that the Sox didnt do a heckuva lot to improve the 2024 team. I'd rather Devers be honest than just pay insincere lip service.

I dunno, not that hard to say you’re going to war with who we have and you have a lot of belief in your teammates. The goal is to win games not to be your authentic self while speaking to Rob Bradford.

I'd guess Pedroia was asking the FO guys, "WTF are you doing??!! Snell and Montgomery are sitting right there! Spend some freaking money!" on that face time call. Don't think he was specifically referring to Hendriks although I doubt he'd have an issue with that one. Not trying to speak for Pedroia, but it's not hard to imagine what he'd say and probably not in a shy sort of way. They got to get that guy back into the organization first chance they get! Guarantee this was with Netflix cameras rolling and the org thought that it'd be great to hear a legend and not expecting what they got. So FO's disclosure of the call to the media was likely in response to the fact that this is ripe for the opening scene of the documentary.

Story could have said the exact same thing; but he's out there running camps getting to know new guys, working on improving, helping others improve, building team chemistry. Devers' opinion falls about as flat as it could, because he's spent the entire offseason in the Dominican enjoying the spoils of his $300 million dollar contract. And in his first interview, he's reading cue cards from his rich buddies about spending more money. I'm sure 99% of people will eat it up, but I don't see it as him having an opinion - I see it as him being lazy.

The goal is to win games not to be your authentic self while speaking to Rob Bradford. If you are Rafael Devers and the org has committed $300m+ to you and presumably told you they'll listen to your opinion on the team, it's not a huge stretch to believe that public statements from you might have some influence. And if you believe that then saying this is in direct relation to trying to win games.

Devers, Jansen and Pedroia out here dropping truth bombs so far. Hopefully more do the same so the owners can wake the hell up

Good for Devers, anyone defending ownership at this point is delusional and deserve the last place finish we're bound to get.

Mike Trout literally said the same thing yesterday:
/photo/1
If the implication is Devers thinks like Jordan Montgomery or Blake Snell are more deserving of a roster spot than like, idk Chris Murphy or Greg Weissert, is that really going to make waves in the clubhouse

Wonder if the Face of the Franchise plans to run out ground balls this year?
If not, then shut your trap.

The Netflix thing could wind up getting the ratings and attention management wants (the Sox cant even get local media attention these days), but for all the wrong reasons.

Props to those defending saintly altruistic billionaires John Henry and Tom Werner from notorious big rude, arrogant, meanie Raffy Devers. Not all heroes wear capes

Devers is obviously 100% correct. This organization had a very clear, very obvious North Star that they should have been building toward for the last 5 years: competing during Devers' prime years. It could not have been any simpler, everything should have been gearing up with an eye toward 2024-2026. To win 78 games in back-to-back years and then follow it up with this offseason when you are heading into this window-of-contention is just atrocious. Devers knows it, Pedroia knows it, Jansen knows it. If you are going to fumble this badly don't be surprised if you get called out.

He could have been working out like a fiend or doing fielding drills all winter. Who the hell knows? Good for Trevor Story trying to be a leader. So far hes been a guy over the past two years who has collected a huge paycheck and has accomplished squat. Neither Story or Devers are the real issue. Ownership direction has been the bigger issue, profit over winning. People see it. It's as plain as day. Great that they're building a future. Nk arguments there, but the present has been needlessly neglected as they're having yet another bridge season.

Somehow this offseason is worse than the one in which Mookie was traded. That’s how bad Sox PR has let this snowball. Can’t think of a single correct spin they put on anything. Honestly, it’s impressive. I don’t even blame Kennedy all that much, in spite of fan relations at this point. There’s only so much spin he can put on his spitball. I think he’s been taking one or two or three or fourteen for the team.
