Turning that chest high 93 MPH fastball around and sending it deep into the RF stands was impressive as heck. How many players could have done that? And Nava seems like a very professional hitter. This doesn't look like much of a fluke at this point. Perhaps he has peaked but he is a valuable player controllable for a long time.
Brian Daubach only better?

Don't know if the link works, but interesting article by Gammons on effects of shoulder injuries ( lead shoulder) on hitting. It is probably one of his better articles. It is speculative but still informative on Ellsbury. The gist of it is that a) it takes time for the shoulder to heal and b) such an injury can do some subtle things to a hitters mechanics ( Gonzalez?). It is based on a interview of a surgeon who worked on Kemp's shoulder. He also accurately notes that Ellsbury was not standing back and swinging but committing too early, resulting in grounders and pops, but of late had been driving the ball in bp. Although we do not know for sure whether his shoulder injury is responsible for his production, but he has not been the same since he came back from the injury late last year. Even in this currently streak he has had some luck. Just from hanging in gyms and working out for decades, I have noticed how long it takes for someone to recover from a shoulder injury, just in strength and flexibility. Also hope he fully recovers from the groin strain. If he is still battling the shoulder injury, certainly does not help to be dealing with a strained groin of any sorts.

I think if you look at Gomes and Ross and you think simply about their numbers, you are entirely missing the boat on why they are here. Baseball is a long season and team makeup CAN be extremely important.

Make-up is one thing, but no clubhouse guy is worth $5M if he's not getting it done on the field. And how big a voice can you have in there if your own performance is shit? If Gomes doesn't produce look for them to off-load him some way in July.
Here's hoping Buchholz can get through the long layoff without being rusty tonight. That or Kuroda is a piñata. Or both.

I am not the biggest Gomes' booster, but he has been getting on base about one-third of the time and is a decent base runner. He even has two pinch hit home runs and seems to do something when guys are on base. It is not entirely accurate to say he is not producing. This along with his "clubhouse presence" is probably why he may be a keeper. But if Bradley shows he can produce in the big show, then it may be another story. I am assuming that Shane can stay on the field.

Hope clay is getting the same strike zone. Seems a little wide but as long as its consistent. Should be a low scoring game.

Iggy with a no doubter to left off Kuroda. We all expected to say something like that.
He's not going on that bus anytime soon

"I do not always hit for average, but when I do...I prefer the big leagues" -actual Jose Iglesias quote.

WOW Iglesias. Kuroda knew that was gone off the bat.
I noticed Iglesias has been getting first pitch fb down the middle. Way to take advantage.

Damn I missed Iggy's HR! Longggg way to go in this marathon.
Dave O'Brien was saying he didn't think they needed an OF (he's so impressed with Nava).
I'm not buying that and if an improvement can be had a C or OF that makes sense I think FO will do it if the current standings are the same a month from now.

Iglesias really has nothing to learn in AAA. His play should allow Will Middlebrooks a well needed long "rehab assignment." Yes Iggy is playing over his head with the bat, but even the difference in defense is enough to play Iglesias over Middlebrooks, until Middlebrooks fixes his hitting.

I'd be upset if this is rain delayed. Clay is on cg pace.

I'm loving the budding bromance between Iglesias and Ortiz.

Just a shot by Ortiz. He and Iggy both hit bombs that everyone knew were gone right off the bat
Both HR pitches in almost the exact same location, and both just crushed

So, in the event that the game is called, correct me if i'm wrong but this is already an official game correct?

To me Iglesias is a starting MLB shortstop just because of his glove. Right now league average for ss is 307 Obp 372 slug. I would say Iglesias has had a lot of luck in his MLB stats this year but he looks better, and that average could be a realistic goal. Iglesias in his short time up has been more valuable than drew per fan graphs, and that is more of a statement of stews poor play.
Couple things about drew. 1 he is not hitting right now. 2 he is not in the long term plans of the red sox. 3. He is a lot more expensive than Iglesias. 4 times if I am not mistaken (which I might be).
Drew has shown upside this year. If I am the red sox I try to send him to pittsburgh with a 7 million dollar check. Try to get a non 40 man, bullpen help, or competitive balance pick (if they have one) back and let Iglesias play. If it doesn't work Xander may be knocking on the door for 2014 or we could always try to sign drew as a fa.

This sucks if it is going to resume but not soon. Clay looked good for 7-8 innings.

This sucks if it is going to resume but not soon. Clay looked good for 7-8 innings. This really does stink. Especially if Buchholz is forced to be pulled or is not as sharp as he was before the rain delay. I guessing he is probably going to be done.
