Is Iglesias the best player on this team? I think he might be.

Can we agree Iggy is a major leaguer with a floor as a utility guy with world class late inning d and with Papi use as a pinch runner late as well.
Also, it makes no sense for him to be on the field anywhere but SS.
Unless....
You have a potentially difference making trade deadline pickup on a one year deal that you are showcasing.
The sox would eat Drews deal in a second for the correct deal.

Espn just said 5 minutes, which I doubt, but any chance buch comes back out?

They have a day off tomorrow, so straining the bullpen isn't really a concern. I very much doubt Clay comes back, but we'll see.

You'd really think meteorology in this day and age would be better than this. Just pitiful.

I believe they expect rain off and on all night in New York. Sheer stupidity to delay the start of the game (I could be wrong, but I believe the home team makes the decision on delays until the first pitch is thrown).

Who makes the call on calling it? The Yankees?

Might be in the Yankees best interest to call this game, which is tough to do with 12 outs left in a 3 run game.
They used their long men yesterday, Boone is already done, this would be a late game with a hot Cleveland team coming tomorrow. they could also expect to see uehara tazawa, and bailey.

Who makes the call on calling it? The Yankees? Once the game starts it's the umpire crew chief's call.

They played until 4am local time in St. Louis this past week. Not going to cancel this. Yanks have Pettitte going tomorrow. I'm sure he got some good chit from his trainer. Could probably go 10ip

The game would have been suspended, but not called if the Red Sox had taken the lead in the top of the sixth, and the Yankees had not retaken the lead in the bottom of that inning. Either way, once five full innings have been played, I believe stats are all official.

Does Clay actually get credited with a CG? He did technically pitch the whole game and I know 8-inning CG's count but this is obviously different.

What the hell did Theo see in Salty? He can't catch or throw a baseball. Aren't they necessary to be a catcher?

We all get that he's a below average defensive catcher, but do you think you could manage to use a statistic that doesn't have Jesus Montero with more defensive value than Matt Wieters right now? Or, you know, go ahead and use it. According to that link, Salty finished with 0.1 dWAR last year, while Lavarnway somehow managed to rack up -0.4.

The conspiracy theorist in me wants to think that the Yankees delayed the game as long as they conceivably could in hopes the game got postponed, but it totally backfired and they got just enough baseball in to lose. That team is in rough shape right now. I think I'm actually starting to agree with the "Iglesias has nothing to learn in the minors" camp. He's not this good of a hitter obviously, but he makes the major league team better and sending him back to Pawtucket may be counterproductive at this point. He's definitely a better defensive player than Ciriaco, and he's no worse of a hitter. If he's going to stay, though, I'd like to see Drew get some reps at third base. A move like that helps everyone. The Red Sox get their best defensive shortstop at the position, and Drew gets to work on the positional versatility he'll need to extend his career. His range is better than I expected to be, but it's not back to his pre-injury levels. I'm trying to imagine some alternate dimension where Jesus Montero is a better defensive catcher than Matt Wieters, and it isn't easy. I like how how, now that Saltalamacchia is hitting better than every catcher in the AL other than Mauer and Santana and that pitchers are doing just fine with him behind the plate, we need to find new reasons to hate him. I was as hard on Salty last season as anyone, but he's been a very good ballplayer so far this year. Yes, sometimes he watches a fastball down the middle for strike two, and follows that up by swinging over a curveball in the dirt, and it makes me want to rip my hair out. He's a flawed player at a position that has very little depth, league-wide.

I think Salty is a great platoon catcher who, unfortunately has a huge defensive deficit throwing runners out. His approach at the plate is inconsistent, but when he hits it - boy that ball goes a long way. As a still relatively young free agent, he's going make some nice cash in the off season. That said, I would be all in for McCann on 4 years* in the O.S. with the understanding that he splits time at 1st and ultimately transitions to primarily 1st and DH in year 4.
*IF the medicals pass muster.
