Monge profiles says he's not committed to a college and has a willingness to start pro ball.

I guess the Red Sox are drafting all the tallest pitchers they can find.

Gabe Speier #265 on the BA top 500.. yet another legit prospect

Speier is a high school left-hander with a solid four-pitch mix and these types of pitchers usually don't last too long in the Draft. Even though he is only six feet tall, he gets good downhill plane on his fastball and will mostly throw it around 90 mph. His slider is his best secondary pitch as it shows flashes of being above-average with late, sharp break to it. He has also shown a good feel for his changeup and a hard curveball. He has good command and works more off of solid pitchability than pure stuff. He is committed to UCSB, but could be ready to begin his pro career Video: wapc.mlb.com/play/?topic_id=40395496&content_id=27724035

im guessing Rowdy Tellez wont get drafted He'll absolutely get drafted but will he sign? If he has a favorite team and they draft him and give him just the right amount of money playing for his favorite team vs. the Astros for example could entice him just enough. I have the odds of him signing at about 10% or less but a team will take a chance on a scenario similar to the one I described.

I think Trey Ball is the type of player we all clamored for, He arguably has the highest ceiling of any player that was available at 7. I love the video on this kid. I think he could be an ace in the making and it will be a challenge to our development program to help him come up with three plus pitches. For the strength of the organization as a whole it was probably better adding pitching than someone like Smith or Meadows. Now we need to get Denney signed, bring Devers in and hopefully get a nice showing from Margot next month and this fram system will be looking pretty solid and balanced. Let's add in a lights out showing from Buttrey so we could give some credibility to last year's draft. Apart from probably being the best lefty pitcher overall in this draft, he seemed to have speed, power and athleticism that might have compared favorably with Meadows as an every day player on its own. 10 home runs with a wooden bat in a miserable weather cold climate might be more impressive for scouts than the exploits of better exposed Meadows. His intangibles also seem unquestioned compared to the attitude of Meadows. Perhaps they had Ball ranked as high as 4th ahead of Stewart, Frazier and Moran. They obviously had him ranked ahead of Meadows too who, practically, was the next most talented player off the board when Pittsburgh took him at 9.

MLB.com on Burkamper: Although he may not get as much attention as fellow Iowan A.J. Puk, Burkamper is definitely a pitcher to pay attention to in this year's Draft. Burkamper is a projectable right-hander who throws his fastball around 90 mph right now but should see an uptick in velocity as he fills out. He also throws a changeup and a slider, both of which could be average or better in the future. He has very good command and shows a good feel for pitching which allows all of his pitches to play up. He is committed to Nebraska and may end up there unless he is taken reasonably high. wapc.mlb.com/play/?topic_id=40395496&content_id=27631199

These guys will be the Alex Bregman of this draft. Like we said last night the Red Sox saved between 500,000 - 850,000 depending on things.. they can offer a couple of these kids reasonable deals. They will sign 1-3 of these guys.. doubt Burkamper though.

Halfway through the draft the Sox have taken 8 RH pitchers, 5 LH pitchers, 7 position players: 2 catchers, 1 infielder, 4 outfielders.

If they have that kind of money left they should just put it all on him and call it a draft. Ball, Denney, Sheffield would be a coup to go along with the other interesting arms they took.
