And you're just going to ignore the fact that Sale has been given extra rest for his entire career and its probably not the best idea to ride him as hard as possible while it's still only July? This is the exact time you should be riding him, yes. You want to conserve him, do it early like the Sox did with Price. See, I'd rather he not blow out his arm before the playoffs. Guess I'm wrong though.

He's had that kind of ERA all year while being on regular rest too. The extra rest doesn't hurt Sale but it does hurt the Sox, especially if Fister is starting in his place. And you're just going to ignore the fact that Sale has been given extra rest for his entire career and its probably not the best idea to ride him as hard as possible while it's still only July?

I'm always amazed by how quiet this place gets when the Sox are doing well

Because baseball players aren't strat-o-matic cards, and they somethings need an extra day of rest. Sale has pitched over 200 innings the past 3 or 4 years. He's their best pitcher and should be starting him as much as they can to increase their chances of winning. He gives you better chances to win the more he's our there. Sale is a horse. I'll just leave this here then. www.csnne.com/boston-red-sox/how-are-boston-red-sox-going-conserve-chris-sale

isn't Sale scheduled for tomorrow? Nope and I still have yet to hear one good reason why the horse of this rotation needs a extra day's rest in the middle of a pennant chase. Because baseball players aren't strat-o-matic cards, and they somethings need an extra day of rest.

CJ Chatham with a HR then is lifted from the game. Perhaps heading back to Greenville? Or to Chicago

Meanwhile it'll be interesting to see if DD goes after Neshek and/or Justin Wilson as DD has a tendency to reacquire his former Detroit pitchers. I guess I'm missing something....Which pitchers has he reaquired from Detroit? Edit: Duh. I Forgot Price was in Detroit for a bit.

Brannon and Scherff can't be named as PTBNL until after this season and those are the only two that I would agree on not wanting to trade in that range. For what it's worth, that's no longer allowed. Part of the Trea Turner rule is that you can no longer just use a PTBNL as a placeholder for a player who is ineligible to be traded until that eligibility kicks in. I think I said it awkwardly, but that's what I was trying to say. The person I quoted said "anyone can be a PTBNL" so I said those two players can't be a PTBNL until this summer (then they would be eligible). The point being that they are ineligible, even as a PTBNL, to be traded for Frazier.

My pants aren't totally dry after that.
Edit: Because of Holliday's flyball. Not all the Phillips 66 commercials.

In unrelated news: I'm watching this game on a Roku and they've been showing a Phillips 66 car chase commercial exactly twice every commercial break....so I've seen it about 60 times at this point.

Again, I meant to type 7, so Flores is off limits, and a few of the guys you mentioned in your post can't be traded right now anyway. I guess I just don't see the upside in the players you're mentioning. Even if there was upside, the likelihood of them contributing as much as Frazier will this season is miniscule. This current team is too good to hope that Lin or Marrero don't turn into a pumpkin, and Frazier gives us a damn good chance at improving without touching the impactful players on the farm. Well you said anyone outside top 6, than top 7. Can always do a player to be named. If you didn't mean those players ok. It's not about just this season though. Johnson, Beeks and guys like Shawaryn is our future pitching depth. With Owens tanking we need those guys. Ockimey just has to much value and upside. Dalbec you can debate, but not for me. We need guys that can add depth over next 3 years. I'm all about adding a Vet, but at the right cost. That why I wanted Plouffe, a solid Vet. I wouldn't mind Frazier, but only at the right price. Not any two players not in our top 7. More like the right two players. Brannon and Scherff can't be named as PTBNL until after this season and those are the only two that I would agree on not wanting to trade in that range. To your larger point, yes I certainly agree. I would obviously want to trade the "right" players, but Chicago doesn't owe us any favors and won't move him for nothing. We can certainly go back and forth on the players you mention, (and you do make a good point with needing depth in the pitching department), I just don't feel confident in any player past 7 helping the Sox more than Frazier would for the rest of the year. I'll probably end up being wrong by the end (I usually am) but after watching 14 innings of this offense I could be talked in to pretty much anyone being a net bonus for this team.

Part of the reason that I would be so reluctant to give up much of anything is how thin this system is. It's gotten better, but to lose any player that's truly worth much would be a big hit. A couple years ago and I would trade a decent enough prospect for Frazier, but not when we need all the prospects we can get. Depends on how you look at it. I wouldn't hesitate in giving up our 10th best prospect this year, but would have minded doing the same when our 10th best prospect was still on a top 100 list.
