Severino now out with a lat strain. Doesn't sound like he'll be out too long but yankees take another hit early on.

Booser has looked solid every time out there. Nice depth.

I'd want Song back as part of any deal. So, your effectively saying Dombrowski could get Dalbec for a Song. LOL, and a dance although I'd be happy with just Song but no reason (plus pun though). An upper level reliever maybe that doesn't need to be on the 40, something potentially useful.

I guess that just goes to show that if you work hard enough at your goal for a long enough time, you can accomplish just about anything. Fangraphs depth chart has the Phillies going with a meh AAAA lefty first baseman, so Dalbec might actually interest them. Dombrowski did draft him. So, with Song and Cannon, there's an in with Philly. I'd want Song back as part of any deal.

Somewhat surprising that Pivetta is the 5th starter.

If Alfaro is so valuable, why is Gary Sanchez still unemployed ? They really profile quite similar, good bat, strong arm but horrible catchers.
I'm of the opinion that McGuire and Wong will be the best catching tandem since the Tek years.

It's 3 days prior to opening day. Sorry. You can backdate any IL stint 3 days during the year, that applies to opening day as well. small technicality question. During the season, you can only backdate if the player hasn't played in those 3 days. Does the same hold true at the beginning and include spring training games ?

Am I the only one who doesn't see a benefit to adding Alfaro and Tapia to the bench? See a lot of talk about opening up 40 man spots for them and I don't see how they improve the roster over players already there. Currently I see it playing out with a Wong, Dalbec, Chang (till Mondesi gets back), Refsnyder bench. I could see Duran making it over Dalbec if they wanted another lefty, Alfaro made some sense when it looked like Wong was not going to be ready. Now that Wong is looking good, what does Alfaro bring to the table that Dalbec doesn't? They both would play the role of sporadically playing against left handers. Alfaro was a little better then Dalbec last year, but career numbers still favor Dalbec, particularly against leftys. Neither is good defensively, but where is Alfaro going to play if Wong is on the roster. He only has 6 games at first base and then a few more in left field. The team doesn't really need another leftfield only type. What does Tapia bring to the table that Duran doesn't? He hasn't put above an above average offensive season. He is very bad defensively and is another left field only type. They both seem decent enough at stealing bases. We are talking about a guy with 578 career games that hasn't totaled 1 career BWar yet. It would make sense if he had a great glove you could put in center, but he doesn't. So why subtract from the teams limited luxury tax room? Why would you want Duran languishing on the bench when he should be playing every day at some level, whether its AAA, Boston, or somewhere else? It does him no development favors to make him a bench player. Tapia is who he is, which is a decent bench piece. He's the kind of guy who doesn't/shouldn't play regularly. On a postseason roster I could possibly see the argument of Duran over Tapia, but not during the regular season when Duran needs time every day to implement his swing changes and work on his defense. As Alfaro goes, it depends on Wong's health. If Wong is good to go, I dont think Alfaro makes it. If they have any doubts about Wong's health, then Alfaro gets the call. I'm really hoping, for Wong. To me, Alfaro is Gary Sanchez with cooler hair and a better personality but still sucks at the catching thing.

People offended by it are much more likely to be the ones with a problem. If talent was all that mattered Trevor Bauer would be pitching in the Majors this year. Luke Heimlich would be in the minor leagues somewhere. There are plenty of other guys with domestic abuse or other issues that are playing in the league. Character matters it just matters to what extent the team or fan base is willing to turn a blind eye. Ask the Bruins about that. Everyone has a different Moral code if you say I have a problem because mine is different than yours so be it. If you're all about talent then great trade do it every time. So now he's same as Trevor Bauer. Thanks for making my point.

Law has Bello at the top of his breakout list: Brayan Bello, RHP, Boston Red Sox I had Justin Havens on my podcast in January, and he mentioned Bello as one of his two breakout candidates for 2023. I’m going to join him on the Bello Bus, as the sophomore right-hander had some awful luck on balls in play last year and his stuff should allow him to limit overall contact and limit hard contact as well. Bello has an out pitch in his changeup, which has big tailing action and good separation from the heater, and gets huge sink on his two-seamer to generate groundballs (56 percent last year in the majors). His .404 BABIP allowed is going to come down, probably a lot, so while he’ll allow a few more homers this year, I think he’s poised to take a big step forward. One quick caveat is that he missed much of the spring with forearm tightness, making a very successful spring debut on March 19, and will start the year on the injured list as he builds back up. Justin also cited Baltimore’s Ryan Mountcastle as his hitter breakout candidate, although I don’t buy Mountcastle’s approach or pitch recognition enough to join him there. theathletic.com/4327769/2023/03/21/mlb-players-watch-keith-law-2023/?source=dailyemail&campaign=601983Does he still hate the Red Sox ?

This was one of the greatest games I've ever watched. I wonder if I will feel the final is anti-climatic, much the same as the Sox in the 2004 World Series after coming back from the Yankee series.

Who will have a better offensive season this year/ rest of carear. One step farther, who is better overall player. Yoshida or Boegarts. I still probably go with Xman as an overall. Hitting I’m going Yoshida. Would have loved a top 3 of the order of Yoshida/Xander/Devers. Cora is looking for that righty to break up Yoshida and Devers and with Xander's OBP skills and the ability to hit for power, that would have made a great trio. Oh well. You are unrealistic and Turner.

Now we get the big matchup, Ohtani vs Trout. I'd say a bigger stage than a game 7 World Series.
Yoshida is pretty clearly on his way to WBC MVP.

This guy Yoshida just can’t put the bat on the ball, huh? He can't even hit .500. What are we paying for here ?

I know…I know….small sample size….spring training, but Ort has pitched 6.1 innings and given up 4 HRs, and put 16 men on base. I think it is safe to say he can be a DFA who will not be taken (the Yankees are not snarky like DD and the Phillies who would take a player like Canon or Song with little to no chance of it working out). I think it is pretty obvious that he will be the subtraction if or when Tapia is added. Not so sure he would pass by the Yankees, they have to be counting on DFA pitching at this point. Maybe not Ort but somebody, anybody. That bullpen has worst in baseball potential.

Besides, who here hasn't let off a little steam in a dollar store parking lot, I bet if we were all honest we'd find that it's actually pretty common. I say let those amongst us who have never sinned, cast the first stone. People offended by it are much more likely to be the ones with a problem.
