I would be surprised, considering Selsky still has options. Depends on how he looks and if somebody comes calling about Rutledge. I'd think you're right, though, Selsky can be stashed and if they want him to get reps at 3B, then AAA is the place for it. Kinda liking him myself, though, his OBP in particular and fairly solid minor league track record overall has me intrigued. I think Selsky starts in AAA even if he looks good at third in spring. Have him get more time there in AAA while moving him around first and the outfield to prepare him for a utility role

Just saw a tweet from Jason Mastrodonato that the Red Sox will have Steve Selsky play third base soon. That would be interesting if he could even be passable at the position. I have high hopes for Selsky as a bench piece

I believe I read that it's June 15 for his opt out. Two and a half months into the season Kendrick's opt out is June but if they bring him to Boston, he won't have options to send him back so, if he gets called up or makes it out of spring, he's staying, he won't clear waivers. I view him as either major problem insurance or trade deadline material (even if someone else besides him was traded). If Kendrick made the team as a #6 starter/long man, I wouldn't have a problem with that. He's pitched far better than Owens or Johnson this spring and I think it's worth it to keep him in the organization

Does Kyle Kendrick's contract have an opt out or can the Sox send him to AAA? I believe I read that it's June 15 for his opt out. Two and a half months into the season

Am I correct in supposing that when "Replace Moreland & Panda with Young & Rutledge" that means Hanley @ 1st with Young @ DH? Yea I worded that poorly. So versus lefties, it'll be Rutledge at 3rd, Young at DH, and Hanley at 1st

Vs RHP 1. Pedroia 2B 2. Bogaerts SS 3. Benintendi LF 4. Betts RF 5. Ramirez DH 6. Bradley CF 7. Moreland 1B 8. Sandoval 3B 9. Leon C
Switch Young and Rutledge with Moreland and Sandoval for vs lefties. That's how I think it'll be done if Benintendi hits 3rd

The diagnosis was bone spurs and a mild flexor strain. I think the Sox should be clear of any ligament damage. I'm actually kind of glad that I got to hear that Price has a "bionic arm" that has learned to heal itself. I wonder what the Sox will do with the bone spurs situation though. Probably surgery might be needed for that sooner rather than later. Maybe for the bone spurs, that'll be something to take care of after the season if everything goes fine during the year. Get the rehab done in the offseason and be good to good next yeat

That's good news. Doubt we're out of the woods yet but this was about the best we could hear today. Hopefully he responds well once he's throwing again

Man Owens might be our #8 or #9 starter with how poorly he's started spring. I normally don't like reacting to spring performance but it looks like more of the same from him. Thought it was interesting that Owens touched 94 mph on his fastball in that last game. I heard that listening on the radio. Would be interesting if he can hit it consistently but not sure I believe it since stadium radar guns can be wrong pretty often

Wasn't the point of staying under the tax this year to reset the penalty for future years? I remember reading/hearing about that this offseason but I could be wrong

DON'T MAKE THIS WORSE Edit: Ahem. No I'm totally composed. Just by doing that they get an extra year of his service. Even if it was a disaster, I'd take the free year over a couple of weeks usage when we have other relievers like Barnes with options. Kelly should stay in relief. He was pretty good once moved there last season after bombing again as a starter. I think he could be a major piece of the bullpen and maybe even solidify himself as the set up man behind Kimbrel. We're trying to win this year not trying to get a free year from someone with 4 years of service time already

Well this sucks. If Price is out for the season or even part of it, that's alot of innings to try and find. A rotation of Porcello,Sale, Wright, Pom, and Rodriguez should still be pretty good. However 3/5 of that rotation aren't good bets to hold up an entire season. Hopefully we can piece some decent starts together out of Johnson, Owens, and Kendrick at some point if needed. They should be better then when we had to start O'Sullivan last year ... Why is there reason to think that Johnson, Owens, and Kendrick puts them in significantly better shape than Johnson, Owens, and O'Sullivan? Not much outside of hope. I think Johnson will be better this year mainly due to being available. Didn't he miss most of last season? Kendrick could soak up innings in a worst case scenario plus he's better then O'Sullivan even if both are terrible. Owens I don't have much hope for. Maybe Elias can get back to his Seattle level of performance. Idk but one of the big three getting hurt was probably the biggest blow this team could take outside of Mookie

Just react to the positive things if anything. I won't react negatively to anything that I haven't seen. You have no idea if the ump was squeezing him or if he's even working on anything but his fastball, which is what pitchers are usually doing at this point of spring training. Yea that's true. I'm listening to the radio broadcast. Hopefully Owens can show enough to stay ahead af Kendrick

I think those are how I would put it together. Not feeling great about third even if Pablo bounces back. If Benintendi shows he can handle major league lefties fine, I'd bump him up to #2 and move Xander to #4 with every one else moving down one

Only took a day but baseball has taken it's first arm of the year. Alex Reyes is getting TJ surgery. Don't like the Cardinals but it always sucks to lose talent like that

I'm guessing the hope is Moreland rebounds to his 2015 level of hitting while providing good defense. At least on that end, we'll go from below average defense to very good and that should benefit the entire infield. On a one year deal, I have no problem with this. Here's hoping Mitch rebounds

Dan Hayes Verified account @csnhayes Victor Diaz is a RHP who was at Boston's Single-A Greenville. Luis Basabe is a 2B/SS also played at Greenville. Both in Chris Sale deal. Haha people are still mixing up the Basabe even thou they play for different teams. I'm totally fine with this trade. Moncada and Kopech might be stars but both have a high risk. Basabe and Diaz are no guarantees to make it to the majors as well

While this is a high price, It's about what I expected to get Sale. He's a ace on a great deal, he's gonna cost alot. We'll see who the other two are before I call it a fair deal thou.
Sale, Price, and Porcello is a great top 3 to have. This also says to me that they're high on Devers at 3rd if they're trading Moncada

I'm sorry, I know many will disagree, but to give the MVP to a player whose team finished 4th in their division is a joke. To me, and I have felt this way the 45+ years I have been following baseball, there is no way that a player deserves the MVP if he team didn't make the play-offs, or at least threatened to make postseason. So Trout was instrumental in the Angels 4th place finish. Very valuable indeed. I get the statistical analysis people will say his stats indicate he was the best player in the league. And I won't disagree, or dispute his greatness as a player. Maybe there should be 2 awards. MVP and SOP (Statistically Outstanding Player), there is a difference between the two. But anyhoo, great season by Mookie and if it were up to me to decide he would be the 2016 AL MVP. I wanted Mookie to win but why penalize a player for stuff out of his control? Trout doesn't choose his teammates. Betts didn't choose his teammates. They aren't the GMs or coaches. I can't blame a player for his team underperforming when he's head and shoulders above anyone else playing. This isn't basketball. One player can't take a nothing team and make it a contender. Mookie is very deserving but Trout is also deserving as well. And I lost any respect for the player from a playoff team argument the year they gave it to Cabrera despite the Tigers winning less games then the Angels. Got a boost from playing in a terrible division.

I thought it would go to Kluber or Verlander but Porcello had a outstanding season. After his rough year in 2015, it was nice to see him bounce back even better then what I hoped and expected. Anyways, congratulations Rick!

While I think Kopech has a real shot at making the majors late next year. I would still start him at AA, at least for a month or so. See if this kind of dominance continues or if it's just a hot streak. He's definitely done far better then I thought in 2016. However 2018 would still be my guess as to when he's major league ready but that could change

Votto is one of my favorite players but I would be worried about the cost. He would definitely improve the major league team. However his cost will be pretty heavy. Thinking at a minimum of Devers/Kopech+ a good deal more.
I would be in favor of smaller moves this off season and saving the big moves until 2017 or 2018. Mainly the bullpen is my concern.

I went to the game today. Dubon and Callahan played. Didn't really keep track of stats. Just my impressions from watching them. Dubon went 2 for 4 but the next batter hit into a double play both times. Swung pretty often. Didn't seem to take much. He was good looking on defense outside of overthrowing the first basemen in the 2nd. Made the rest of the throws including starting a couple double plays chance.
Callahan got threw the inning without run but had 4 or 5 hard hit balls(including foul balls). He did get a couple swing and misses but batters squared him up a few times.
