Too early for Mata to be promoted. Yes he's been fantastic this year but it's still only 50 innings of low A ball

It would probably take a Ben Zobrist type contract (4 years/about $52 million) to sign Nunez and I would gladly do that. I don't see him costing that much. Zobrist was a much better hitter and defender. I could see Nunez getting a Chris Young type deal. 2 years at 5 to 8 per

I just love watching Workman pitch. No nonsense, gets the ball, zings it in - good control, good poise. So happy he's come out well at the other end of his surgery and rehab. Yea it's great seeing Workman back. Nice to see after 2 rough years with injuries

Last year, the Sox were a good baserunning team(IIRC) because they were aggressive without being dumb about it. They crossed the line of being too aggressive and taking chances.
Last year, they would go on 50/50 chances and make it. This year, they're taking chances on a 5% shot on it working and getting out

It's one thing to play Brock Holt, but its another for him to be hitting 2nd. Hopefully Benintendi uses these days off to find that stroke he had in April/May I get wanting to sit Benny since he's struggling but Holt has been awful this season. If you're gonna play him, he's gotta hit 8 or 9th. Who would've thought that Holt/Nunez would be our 2 and 3 hitters at any point this season. Shows how banged up and bad the offense has been

One report I got was that he was indeed being too passive (and picking the wrong times to be aggressive), so that's an interesting theory. If that theory is true( walks coming from being passive), could they be promoting him to force him to adjust despite maybe not being ready. I could see the team not wanting him to think being passive will get walks at higher levels. Could be a time where failure might not be a bad thing. However I still hope he can crush it moving up

However just thinking about it for a second, this seems like weird timing if true with Ock's promotion. Unless it means learning first base in practice and playing there on Ock's days off

I wouldn't bet on Chavis being called up this year even with news of him starting to learn first base. However if he keeps hitting and looks ok over there, Maybe he gets a Moncada-style look in September to see if he can produce more then Moreland. Unless Moreland bounces back between now and then

Gray is overrated and it doesn't move the needle that much. I kinda agree with this. Gray isn't the ACE he seems to get mentioned as. However he is a very good #2 pitcher. Yankees got better but I don't think this is the salvo that says the "Evil Empire" is back

I wouldn't consider Fister the 7th starter. He's like option #10. Sale, Porcello, Price, Wright, Pom, Rodriguez, Johnson, Elias, and Owens was the plan at the start of the year. Everyone in that group, outside of Sale, Porcello, and Pomeranz, has gotten hurt or sucked. I'd rather have Johnson but he's been hurt on and off all year. Having Fister over Velasquez is dumb.
Not saying the team is blameless but there's been a lot of turmoil in the rotation behind Sale

While all three have potential to be good relievers. I don't think this is too high a price to pay. I was hoping Nogosek would stay with the Sox, that's because I'm an Oregon fan more then his upside. There all three middle relief types to me

Hope it's a day off for Chavis and not a trade. However if I was a minor league manager, I wouldn't be able to resist giving notable prospects days off or removing them after a few innings. Just to mess with everyone

Reed would be an interesting get. Wonder about cost however since he's not a free agent until after 2018. But he would be a solid set up man He is a free agent in 2018. Only a rental. You're right. He's a free agent after this season. Was looking at his baseball reference page and I guess they don't update service time during the season since it said he had only 5.001 service.

It's not ideal. But it could work at least as a part time position. Chavis is around the same size as Nava isn't he? Plus Travis is only 2 inches taller and so is Nunez. And Farrell said they might play Nunez at first Chavis needs a full time position. If it's not 3b or 2B, it's gonna be LF. I agree. Just saying that his height shouldn't stop him from being tried at first if the Red Sox want to. I personally think he ends up in left unless he's terrible at tracking fly balls

I know Chavis is relatively short for 1B, but is it time to start thinking about it anyway? It's the clearest path to the majors, and the Sox could use a guy who hits with his power. It's not ideal. They have to try an avoid a Bogaerts (0/4 last night) second half fade at all costs. I'd rather DL him now and let him rest while doing some swing work. Nunez to ss and leave Devers at 3b. With Mookie having a less productive year and Bradley always an inconsistent hitter you absolutely need X to hit .290+ with some power. He can do it if he gets the right mindset but we've seen him go the other way as well. A real test coming for the GM. To get another hitter --likely DH/1b type-- without going over the TAX and giving up some good prospects. Going to be very tough. But this is trader Dave. I think he's going to do it. Question is who? There is no hitters. and the CBA is screwy now... Going over the tax to a certain amount makes you drop 10 places in the draft i the first round I don't think we need to worry about the draft pick penalty. The team would have to have a payroll over $237 million in 2018 for that to take effect. I wouldn't mind Jay Bruce at the right price. He would add power to our punchless lineup

Chris Young has one of the worst swings in MLB. I have no clue why he is still getting starts in LF? Just DFA him already and bring up Brentz or Lin. Since June 21st Young has a triple slash of .152/.264/.304 (and dropping). Horrendous. He's not alone mind you, but he hasn't earned the playing time IMO. But Young is Farrell's binky. Seems like he can't run a team without a left field platoon despite one player being far better then the other

Possible Mets/Red Sox trade The Boston Red Sox have been connected to several New York Mets players over the last few weeks, including Asdrubal Cabrera, T.J. Rivera and Addison Reed, but there is a potential deal that would center around Curtis Granderson or Jay Bruce, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. The Red Sox, even after adding Eduardo Nunez late Tuesday night, are considering first-base DH types as a way to further boost their offense, as first noted by Mark Feinsand of MLB.com. This is speculation, but Mets outfielders Curtis Granderson and Jay Bruce could be possibilities (Granderson is owed about $5.5 million; Bruce about $4.5 million; the Sox might want cash in such a deal due to their luxury-tax concerns). Both Granderson and Bruce are set to be free agents after the season. Granderson is batting .223 with 13 home runs and 37 RBIs this season, while Bruce is hitting .262 with 25 home runs and 67 RBIs. www.chatsports.com/mlb/a/mlb-trade-rumors-possible-mets-red-sox-deal-twins-could-still-be-sellers-more-34762 I would like Bruce as a DH/1B option. Would add much needed pop to the lineup. Not sure on what it would cost to get him but it would be a nice get

I doubt anyone will take Price even if we take on a bad contract as well. Bad contract, bad performance, and an elbow issue. To make this work, either we don't get Fulmer or we're adding Groome plus more

If we send down Devers and keep Holt and Marrero up, that would be really lame imo. Holt has done nothing this year and Marrero is just Marrero. Devers could add some power to the offense which is the biggest thing missing to me. Nunez doesn't make enough of a difference to me not to try Devers first. I like Nunez as a bench piece but not as a everyday player.

Fine with giving up Anderson. He seems like a decent prospect but nothing worth losing sleep over. Never heard of the other guy.
Nunez at worst gives us a good bench option if Devers locks down third. He's better then Holt, Marrero, and Lin imo.
