Nice hitting. Dumb to send Brock there though with Martinez on deck. Always got to have at least one dumb out on the bases

Hopefully Cora learns from this. Although there's no excuse for a pitcher to walk 3 in a inning. My question is why is Poyner on the team if he's not there to face lefties. Miller sucks vs lefties. The announcers said something about not wanting his debut in that kind of situation but I don't buy that. You have the advantage and then go with Smith if need be

Disappointing. They really think they have 40 players more valuable than him? What if Martinez gets hurt in spring training? Why not hold onto him until late spring training and try to get a younger player for him? Even if we held onto Brentz until the end of spring, we weren't getting anything notable for him. He's a 29 year old who's never been a good player at the major league level. Sure he had a good year in AAA last year and there are a few players I would've moved first(looking at you, Marrero) but it's not that big a loss. Maybe he can be a quality major leaguer but I doubt it.

Jeff Todd of MLB Trade Rumors is reporting the deal is in place pending physical and it's a one-year deal One year is a good get with Nunez. Can play 2nd until Pedroia gets back and will boost the bench after that. I like it

Ugh, didn't know Dombrowski was a file and trial guy. That policy never made sense to me, but, you know, above my pay grade and all that. Seems like every team is gonna be file and trial this year. I don't get it either

Approve of this move. It makes more sense than Hosmer, especially with 2 years and Hanley able to platoon with him (as long as Hanley remains healthy). However, does anyone else think this makes JD Martinez a bit more of a long shot? Where do you play him if Hanley will no longer be the primary first baseman? I think if we get Martinez, he'll play left with Benny moving to center and JBJ traded. Unless we find a team willing to take on Hanley's deal if we pay it down a bit

Minutes later, Jimmy G rallies the 49ers for a game-winning FG with a stellar one-minute drill. As a 49ers fan, Thank you for Jimmy G! Haven't felt this good about the team since Harbaugh left

The Mariners are gonna try and contend this year. Why would they give up one of their best hitters when it doesn't improve the team? Them taking on more money to rearrange the deck chairs wouldn't make sense

I don't understand this. Will the Sox be the favorite anytime in the next 3 years? Probably not but we have a good chance at a world series. We should add and compete not blow up a good team.
We've won two division titles in a row. Rebuilding after finishing last 3 out of 4 or 5 years would've made sense. Not at this point.
You build around a young core. You don't trade them to get minor leaguers that might become what the young players already are if we're lucky. Maybe in 2019 or 2020 if it doesn't work out the next two years

I think signing Hosmer is the worst route the Red Sox could go outside of doing nothing. He's a poor defender( Gold gloves are still mostly a joke) and has been inconsistent. JDM or Stanton are better options at the top of the market cost. I'd rather sign Santana if we can't get those two

Not giving Brentz a shot is really dumb even if it turns out he still can't hit major league pitching. I'm convinced nothing will make Farrell remove Young from his current role. He's been awful pretty much all year and yet He's held onto to his job without so much of a challenge.
There are too many players providing zero to the offense to not at least try someone with power from AAA. Especially when you have a bunch of relievers sitting on the 40 man, who apparently aren't good enough to get September call ups or are locked into mop up duty

Gonna be nice to see a few of these players in person. My sister is a Blue Jays fan so it's nice they're on the same team. Won't have to wait until they play each other this year before going

Stroman. Why did it have to be Stroman? Can't wait to see who gets an office chair or table thrown at them.

I know it says it looks good but I never want to see an foreman injury with a pitcher. That usually doesn't lead down a good road. Hoping for the best and he just needs some time off

Threw 9 no hit innings. Still got the loss on a walk off homer. Might be the most undeserved loss in MLB history

Rich Hill with a perfect game through 6 innings. Only 64 pitches thrown. If he finishes with a perfect game, or even a no hitter, that has to be the most improbable outcome of all time. Right? It would be up there but the most improbable baseball event imo will always be Philip Humber throwing a perfect game. Humber for his career had 16 wins and a 5+ era

That was Devers' 6th home run. That gives him the same amount as Xander and about halfway to Bradley and Moreland.
Not trying to poo poo on those players but the production Devers has brought so far is ridiculous

In order to be eligible for post season, doesn't he have to be on the 25 man roster or the D/L as of 8/31? Does rehab qualify him for PS play? All above only if he's pitching well enough to be of value. I believe the player just has to be in the organization by 9/1 to be postseason eligible. Still wouldn't count on Smith being part of that unless he comes back at his old level. Think he'll probably get some September innings to use as a springboard into 2018 more likely

I wouldn't want Hosmer at what he'll cost. He's been a replacement level player two of the last four year. Not saying he'll be bad guaranteed but he's been very inconsistent. According to Fangraphs, these are his last four years

Altuve's always been the MVP, maybe. Judge has been walked intentionally 5 times in his 41 highest-leverage PA. In the other 36, he's hit .212 / .250 / .485. And that includes 4 GDP; his effective OBP is .139. He's had 110 PA from the 8th inning on and has hit .196 / .327 / .304. He's 16th in the AL in Win Probabilty Added, right behind the Twins' Robbie Grossman. Interesting. I tend not to like WPA for MVP, unless someone is trying to make an Eckersley-in-1990 argument where his leverage was so disproportionate that it beats away overall value. I'd have to go through and figure out how many games Judge was batting in low-leverage situations in late innings because he'd been so dominant earlier on. I should have mentioned it earlier, but I wonder if Trout can get back in the mix even with missing 40 games with his injury. He's clearly the best player on a per-AB basis, which could lead to the most interesting total value vs. per-game value MVP discussion since Bonds (historically absurd in 130 games) vs. Pujols (more standard-level absurd in 157 games) in 2003. I think Trout can get back in it. However that depends on if he keeps up his current pace and the Angels make the wild card game. If they fall out of it, bad team plus missing time might be too much to overcome in the voter's mind

Now here's an interesting starting line up (I like it!) Núñez 2B Pedroia DH Benintendi LF Betts RF Devers 3B Bogaerts SS Moreland 1B Leon C Bradley Jr.CF and Sale LHP Pedey off of the DL, Boyer on. That takes care of the roster crunch. I really like this lineup. Betts needed to be in the middle of the order and with how Núñez has been hitting, him, Pedroia, and Benny should be good table setters for him
