Man this is exciting. Hopefully he comes up and puts in some tough at bats. Don't mind him platooning to start his big league career since that could help take some of the pressure off

Devers with 3 hits today, Absolutely crushing AAA pitching. Now batting .400 since promotion. I hear one of the hits was a bunt single against the shift! This kid can do it all Chavis 2 for 5 with 2 doubles today and a couple RBIs Good to see those two keep it up after their promotions. Has Chavis been playing 3rd everyday since Devers went up?

I don't think we can get elite anything with them by themselves. They both have injury concerns. Elbow\forearm for Pom and the knee with E-Rod.
One of those situations that they might be more valuable to the Sox then to a team acquiring them.

None of these options inspire confidence in fixing our power outage. That's a whole lot of meh. None of those players move the needle any

Just to update, we now think Darwinzon fits the same loophole that the Basabes did last year. He signed 2 days after the DSL regular season ended. The question is whether playoffs count. We're going to look into this, but our thoughts are that if the playoffs count, they'd just have waited the few more days or weeks or whatever at that point. That would be nice if he had another year. Give them more time to see what he's got as a starter. Pretty interesting guy

I doubt that rumor has much substance, but I really don't understand why you trade for Frazier when you have a guy like Devers waiting. I understand the 3B depth is thin, and you never want to rely on a 20 year old who just wrapped up AA time, but it still seems a little silly. The reason to trade for Frazier is what if Devers comes up and struggles like Moncada did last year. Without trading for Frazier, if that happens, we're looking at starting Marrero in the playoffs and that's not something I want to see

Chavis with home run #5 at Portland. Nice to see his power came up with him. Hoping he finishes strong to cap off a nice year

Then why give up assets for Frazier or some other guy like him? Because he should be better then Marrero and he shouldn't cost that much to acquire. I agree with this. Frazier is a good player who shouldn't cost us much. And as much as I believe in Devers, there's no guarantee he hits at the major league level this year. He could pull a Moncada and struggle after being called up. I say get Frazier and call Devers up in September to get some at bats. If Devers struggles than we still have Frazier. If Frazier gets here and bombs, We have Devers as a back up plan.

Man the one thing I dislike about the trade deadline is waiting to get official reports. I like Frazier but those tweets have a major difference in price. Ockimey and Hernandez sound the most reasonable. Ball and Cosart would be a steal but I can't see the White Sox being dumb enough to take two players who might never make the majors. I rather not think about if it's Mata and Chavis. That's way too high a price

Is it possible he wanted more money than any team would pay him as a draftee and then the Sox met his number outside of the draft? I assume that would be legal. There is no bonus amount listed on the board's draft list. Would an UDFA signing bonus count again the draft pool? Or would he just be considered another minor league free agent? I think it has to count after a certain amount like post 10th round picks. If not, then what's stopping a team from promising a player a 15 to 20+ million bonus if they demand enough to go undrafted

Your post is so ridiculous - I mean come on.
Devers is being blocked?
Come on.
I do not think it is ridiculous. I think it is right on. If Peralta was not taking up roster space and AB's at Pawtucket, the Red Sox could have promoted Devers to that exact roster spot. I would much rather see if Devers can hit AAA pitching rather than giving the AB's to Peralta. Meanwhile the trading deadline is getting closer and we still do not know whether Devers can hit at AAA much less the Majors. I would hate to have the Red Sox give up more prospects for someone to play third without first seeing whether Devers is ready.
Taking 2 weeks to see if Peralta has anything left doesn't change anything for Devers. Devers probably won't be in the majors until early August imo. I don't think there's much difference between what he'll learn at AA in that time than AAA. Maybe more junkballers to deal with?

Not bad for a 5th starter. Don't think he'll be all that good but should be fine until Rodriguez or Johnson get back.

I liked Thornburg. Liked the trade since I thought Shaw and Dubon were back ups. However I think you should almost never trade for relievers. Just never know what you're gonna get. I'm not anti-DD but this lack of depth is gonna be the Sox's undoing. Maybe we need to be a bit more careful with trading for players with spotty medicals. Health is a skill

Jalen Beeks promoted to Pawtucket per the Sea Dogs. I still think Beeks most likely ends up as a reliever but he's gonna get a shot at starting if he keeps this up at Pawtucket. I think he's gonna be a quality pitcher for the Red Sox. Really high on him

Does anyone have an idea when Chavis might be in line for a promotion to Portland? He has been tearing the cover off the ball at High-A. I assume it will coincide with Devers' eventual move to Pawtucket? Gotta believe it will come once he is able to play third base almost everyday. I believe he still hasn't played back to back days in the field. And that's a problem since his defense is a question mark. Plus letting him crush a level for awhile might not be a bad thing. Chavis has really only had 2 hot streaks since he's joined the system

Kemp has averaged 0.45 WAR over the last five seasons and is getting old. He's a well-below average left fielder -- arguably a DH-only type. Not sure why we'd trade a cost controlled gold glover who is a lock to be a net positive and isn't set to hit free agency until 2021, so you can pay $16M/year for Kemp for a few years. And seriously, don't overlook the defensive falloff -- two positions would suffer an extreme decline. If Jackie didn't get off to a cold start, would you be floating this? I agree. This doesn't make sense. Kemp's defense is gonna give back whatever his bat provides if not more

Wasn't sure anybody could turn around public opinion on them quicker than Hanley did last year, but it looks like Kimbrel pulled it off. I would agree with that but Kimbrel is a relief pitcher. As soon as they struggles, they're a worthless bum lol. But he has completely turned it around this year. So fun to watch

I don't like Machado but throwing at him again is stupid. We already threw at his head(which is also stupid) and got our second best reliever suspended. Now we have our best pitcher do it again. His wasn't as dangerous as Barnes but it's not worth having Mookie getting thrown at or tempting MLB to suspend Sale since obviously the first suspension didn't work

If anyone here thought a year ago that Jamie Callahan would be battling for a spot on the 25-man roster four days prior to Opening Day, please step forward. I wouldn't have believe it if you said it at any point. Never been impressed with Callahan before this. However he's looked impressive in the few innings I watched this spring. Looks like he's definitely leap frogged a good chuck of the relievers ahead of him at the start of spring

Also with all the shoulder problems that Hanley is having, I'd feel like the Sox would be best served by having a guy like Selsky over the roster rather than Chris Young. The lack of versatility is going to kill the Sox from Young's side of things and Moreland might have to see at bats versus LHP because of it. Plus, if the Sox drop Young after spring training, they only owe him the first 30 days of his pro rated contract, I think. Or maybe they'd be on the hook for the full contract. I'm not sure how that rule works. If they could save money by dropping Young, they could save more money against the threshold this year and maybe promote Rusney if they need to. Young is a far superior hitter to Selsky and I'm a fan of Selsky. Granted I'm surprised they didn't have Young try out at 1st but he's not worth losing for a couple weeks of depth. Rutledge and Holt can help cover 1st if they really need to

I know there's not much room for him on the major league roster to start the year but I'm impressed with Hernandez. I hope they have him start playing in the outfield when he's in AAA. Could be a nice replacement for Holt in the next year or so if he can become a super utility bench player
