At the time I felt like it was Chaim playing it as the least he could do to support an overachieving team who probably wasn't going to win this year. And I was okay with it. This recent stretch is just a lot of bad timing and regression to the mean. And having a shiny Rizzo sitting on the Covid list wasn't going to change it.

Sox Nation is defeatist. It's a bit comical. Glad you find the Sox collapse and blowing a 9.5 game lead over the Yankees and blowing the division lead over Tampa funny. I guess I don't share that sense of humor. Want a less defeatist fan base? Don't lose a huge lead over your most hated rival? I must be getting old... I just don't take the losses like I used to. And whether its to the Yankees or not... If the Sox don't win, nothing else really matters since I won't watch non-Boston teams. Theres a time this streak would have really changed my mood.

Schwarber, professional hitter If nothing else, he's stopped some of the Rizzo posting in the trade thread.

I think Munoz could be a good addition... he's hit in MLB at a level which would be fine for a utility player, and certainly swinging the bat well now.
Looking at the excellent SP 40 man roster page, it's striking how good a job Bloom has done building this team. Theres plenty of depth to replace ERod, and the rest of the staff with plenty of team control. Team options instead of player options, and some trade candidates. All that said, there are frankly too many players with control for the spots they have, a nice problem to have. Im sure the market just wasn't there, but they actually may lose some guys who are potential MLBers.
The nice thing is that AAA could feature legit MLB depth in the form of prospects (Wong, Downs, Casas, Duran) and maybe don't need the older AAAA types as much.

Sale returning almost inspired me to purchase the MLB package, but then I remember most every other game doesn't start till midnight here. I miss watching them, and cant wait for the NFL to start in earnest. On a side note, it's amazing US sports have any following at all in Europe.

This is a great outcome. They can treat this as a rehab start for Sale. I think this is really important... I am on the record thinking Sale won't live up to the 'ace pitching deep into games expectations' that some here have put on him, but a few 5 IP low stress starts for him would really help him build innings and strength.

It will never not be amazing to get Pivetta and Seabold for a couple RPs on expiring deals.

A lot of these stories reinforce my reaction to the Marcus Wilson DFA... if you are disappointed the fan favorite got released, just wait a few months till their next team releases him and we can get him back.

Forgive me if asked before, but interesting question... should bat only profiles be penalized a little less with the thought the NL will eventually be DH league?

Im more buying Yorke's power surge as legit sign he's ready for promotion. But he's starting next year in A+ no matter what so an extra month making a teenager find a new place to live for a month, leaving friends, etc... Im not sure there's much to gain. We probably don't factor in how stressful a promotion can be in general, even with whatever assistance the club may provide.

For the record I was pretty close to Dalbec will be a disaster. I got a lot of crap a few years ago here for saying trade him for whatever you can get before its too late.

Marcus Walden got released as well. Making room for younger, higher upside prospects Its nice to have that problem. With Bello/Casas and a few others next year, could have some good talent in Wortucket, and could see a shift soon to MLB depth being more prospects rather than AAAA retreads?

Is York a typo or am I missing a great joke? Assuming the latter.

I said at the time Bloom did essentially the minimum to add to the team and not be criticized, at minimal future cost. The team was overachieving and you couldn't do nothing, but the "Barnes/Ottavino on pace for career high IP" opinions aren't old, and really the best quality the SP staff had was "stayed healthy enough to make starts, partly because they didn't pitch deep into games".
I don't think I would have done anything different, despite the results.

Munoz, Ockimey, Ort should be up. Goodbye Gonzalez and Dalbec. Plawecky should get majority of pt at catcher. I don’t really understand the Ort obsession. I’m supposed to get excited about a guy with a 4.17 xFIP in AAA? If he’s replacing Hansel or Rios, fine, but he’s not a late innings guy. Ditto with Munoz (empty batting average—102 wRC+ in AAA) and Ockimey (no reason to think he’s better than Dalbec or Cordero). Munoz is a little interesting... I mentioned in another thread he has about a full MLB season worth of experience with far better stats than whomever he would replace. Doubt he'd push them over the top, and not on the 40 man, so I don't see it happening, but Im officially interested.

I still cant get over Matt Barnes allowing a walk off homer. Almost doing the same thing in the 2nd game yesterday and then laughing about it. Then blows another save. He needs to be removed from the closer role asap. Whitlock to CL I don't think the rest of the internet will understand that this is a joke, given how lights out Barnes has been until the overuse caught up with him.

I haven't watched much this year due to time difference in Europe, but it sure seems like the staff top to bottom is tired. Ottavino/Barnes/Sawamura.... Whitlock is next?

Richards didn't turn out as hoped, but showed flashes and was worth the risk. Santana and Marwin are both flyers. They all may be mistakes, but they aren't expensive or long term, compared to Crawford/Hanley/Sandoval...

Portland getting no-hit. Looks like Jose did not appreciate being the Butto your joke.
Bello also dealing though, 10K through 5. He could start 2022 on the 40 man, nice to see a international kid moving up with that timeline... it can be tough given how young/far away some are.

I think Manfred sums up what I was getting at. Im more likely to count Houck as a SP now than 6 months ago.

Sale has a very good change up, it’s a 60 to me I think it’s becoming more and more clear that Houck isn’t a starter. He’s still disgusting, but there’s a reason why he doesn’t get through 5 Didn't Lester struggle third time through till he developed a cutter? Am I thinking of someone else? Im actually encouraged by Houck a little bit, and would give him some run to learn to pitch to contact, play with other pitches. There was an article about him and Sale about learning to pitch... I'd consider him for SP4-5 next year. Honest question, for Whitlock and Houck, considering what we have seen with Bard et al in the past. Can you really develop a MLB starter in the majors using as extended bullpen role, or do you just have to have them as SP in the Majors, or else in AAA, so they can go 3rd time through lineup, deep into games, etc. I feel like the latter...
