if by RHP who tend to throw the FB up in the zone and avg 89-90 with a high of 92-93 and are most effective when they can throw the curve for strikes, yes that's a pretty good comparison.

If you look closely at Workman and Peavy ( other than their relative size and body types ), the comment Farrell made the other day that they are similar is insightful. They both absolutely pound the strike zone and need their off speed stuff a lot to be successful. I've been impressed with Workman's control so far. He's doing a great job keeping the ball in the park and I noticed he was throwing 92 in his last pitch yesterday also, which is not that bad. The guy looks like a starter to me. He is a moose. They should give everyone in the rotation a chance to miss a start to get them healthy again and rejuvenate their stuff a little. Effectively immediately. I agree, I love the drive he gets with the lower body. Also impressed with the number of balls he throws down the middle. Seems really good at throwing strikes on the corners with a FB that seems to have good life to it, which makes his velocity not as big a deal.

Apologies if this was discussed late last night. So was JBJ pulled because they were in the middle of negotiations with the Phils for Lee? Was he pulled as a decoy to get leverage with the White Sox? Or was he part of the negotiations with Chicago and they talked them down to Iggy? Would love to have been a fly on that wall last night.

Here's a partial list of players with less WAR than Stephen Drew this year: Justin Upton, Ian Kinsler, Ryan Zimmerman, Nick Markakis, Prince Fielder, Albert Pujols. Stop looking at batting average and realize this is not 2002 where the league average OPS is like .850 and Peavy has a WAR of 1 this year. WAR is way too derived a stat to give as much weight as many people give it.

Add me to the "pink hats" who don't like it. I don't think Peavy is a lot better than Dempster at this point in his career. Hopefully he'll be lights out and prove me wrong though. I am worried that this means Buch is in worse shape than we've been told and BC doesn't expect him to contribute anything for the rest of the season. If that's true, I can understand why he did it, even though I hate losing Iggy. Tough kick in the nuts for a kid like Workman to come up, pitch well for 3 games and then get booted though.

I love watching guys who can throw the curve for a strike to start off a batter.

Wilson signed with the Dodgers and why Pence? Ah, didn't see a deal had been finalized, my bad. I think Pence would be an upgrade in LF full time. I'd let Carp play 1B against all righties at this point.

I'd like to see them get Pence if the price is reasonable and sign Brian Wilson.

Big start for Lester tonight. He's well rested and if there's ever a chance for a pitcher to make a statement (good or bad) it's this game for him.

yea, to have guys like Pedroia, JBJ, Bogaerts, Iggy and Cecchini all on the big league team in the not too distant future is something i really really look forward to. all of them are just pure ball players who seem to have great natural baseball instincts and love playing the game.

MVP was probably a bit much, but a standing ovation in one's home city to the best reliever in the history of the game? Yea, that's appropriate and expected. I'd have happily been on my feet.

Will be interesting to see if Rowland-Smith can come back in time to help. Apparently he got the all clear from his doctor on July 9th.

Would the Sox have won that game if the Mariners had a good fielding 2B? I don't think so. Was a great example of how big an impact a guy can have on a game without even factoring in plate appearances. Would the game have been in doubt at all for the Sox if Holt doesn't make that error? Ifs and buts and all that. Further evidence on how important fielding is.

And if iggy could put up those numbers to go along with his glove he would be a great, affordable ss for the Sox for a bunch of years. Dose he not look like a guy who can do that to you now?

Honestly, i hope the Sox PR folks teach these kids about appropriate comments in the public domain. I get it, they're kids, but it'd be a good time to start learning about a professional demeanor.
ok, I'm off to old fogy camp now.
