Is that velocity worrisome or is it just me?

Have you ever considered getting a block of tickets to games in Lowell, Pawtucket or Portland (or in NH when the sea dogs are in Manchester)? A group rental at the Fisher Cats games with one or more of the guys talking about how they do scouting, then watching the game and talking about it with the experts might be an experience people on here would enjoy and pay for.

Oh thank god. After Sale went out, I would have been happy to just split this series!

I hate relief pitchers who walk guys.

Btw this is the Boston weather for today. Pushing the start time to 7pm is clearly the smartest thing to do, but they won’t. Yea, people showing up for a 4pm game that gets delayed 2 or so hours is the vending world’s dream game.

He only had a few chances last night but looked understandably rusty. A low throw and a couple awkward/slow transfers. He’d get better with more reps, but I’m highly confident that he’s a better defender (even including positional adjustments) in RF as opposed to 2B. Fair enough, I was assuming he would be as good at 2B as he has been in RF. Other than the occasional dive or wall collision, RF might keep him healthier than playing 2B too. My fantasy solution for Pedroia’s injuries and age seems to be simply fantasy. Ah well.

Harper is a pie in the sky example, but looking over the next few years, backfilling RF might improve the Sox more than dealing with the uncertainty involved with 2B as it stands going into next year.
Eta. Maybe a guy like Charlie Blackmon is a better example. Would the Sox be better off going into next year with pedroia at 2B and Mookie in Rf or Mookie at 2B and Blackmon in RF?

Still absolutely no? What if they could land Harper?

As in, acquire him? Not sure he'd really help us at all. Even though he's gotten decent results this year, he's homer-prone and doesn't even average 92 with his fastball. Doubt there's a significant difference between what we'd get from him vs. Brandon Workman. yea, I should have looked deeper into the stats, that's a lot of long balls.

Could we please sign him to an extension before he hits free agency?

i know a lot of people don't like to get into things that can't be measured easily, like "clutch" etc... but i'd much rather have a guy playing out a "show me" contract as he comes back from an injury than a kid who has never tasted success at the ML level. a guy who has had enough success in the past to believe in himself, playing for a new deal and getting to go from irrelevancy to a WS contender looks like a good bet to me.

Just get Fiers, please. I don't expect anything from Wright or Rodriguez the rest of the way and I can't handle the prospect of watching Pomeranz pitch in any meaningful games.

I know that we can't predict what's going to happen with Pedroia next year, but could we be looking at Mookie as a 2B again in the future?

Is Buttrey going to get a chance? If not, anyone who's seen him have any insight why not?

I hope they hold onto him, but I wonder if BOBBY Bombs has "hot-streaked" himself into a package to deliver Starting/Relief help?

So Ockimey is creeping up on a .400 OBP and .500 SLG as a 22-year-old in the Eastern League. Glad to see he's hitting well lately (.400/.500/.667 in his last 9). He'd been in a brutal 2 for 37 stretch, albeit with 13 walks, in which he hadn't had a single hit fall in (the two hits were homers). Even with a 34% K rate in that stretch, that's unreal BABIP luck. Was at .294/.394/.514 on June 16 and that stretch torpedoed his line to .252/.376/.463 on the 29th (which isn't even that awful, really). Is it just me, or does it looks like there is a fair bit of similarity in his swing with JBJ? Looks like he has good hands and can hurt bad pitches, but I don’t like the mechanics overall. Has a lot of that same excessive turn in with his shoulder to start the swing.

Glorious. That is getting exactly what you deserve if you walk JBJ to load the bases with 2 outs and Mookie on deck.
