How is that at all similar? Miller got four years, the Red Sox gave Masterson one. Might have misremembered. Thought the Red Sox gave Masterson more. Still, I remember when they lost Miller they didn't want to pay that to a reliever and so they gave it to Masterson who went into the pen anyways. The similarity is they didn't want to pay Kimbrel, gave that money to Eovaldi to start and now Eovaldi is closing. The Sox gave Koji the $9 million to return to close the year Miller left and at the time of signing Miller indicated the 4th year was the reason he chose the Yankee offer over returning to the Red Sox

Jon Heyman says that Dombrowski is quietly scouring the market for relievers and that the other contenders expect the Sox to make a deal

MLBTR says the Tigers a seeking a Quintana type return. 4 players. The White Sox received Eloy Jimenez and Dylan Cease. Red Sox dont have one prospect in that range in the minor league system let alone 2.

This will have a far bigger positive impact on the military than meets the eye. Think about how many athletes who were considering a military career chose not to go to military schools because of the possibility of becoming pro athletes. Far fewer college athletes turn pro than minor leaguers who never make the big show.
According to the NPR article, the Defense Department has 120 days to re-write the rule. Just barely in time but Noah's commitment starts Nov 1st.[/quote]
This change by Trump won't impact the overall military. The requirements for admission to the Academies are far more stringent and comprehensive than any other school. Successful candidates have to have academic superiority, demonstrated leadership qualities and measured physical fitness. Followed by 4 years of strict military training in addition to heavy academic classloads with the 5 year service requirement;the schools turn away many qualified candidates despite these requirements. The sports teams might be slightly enhanced but the overall quality of officers wont be changed.

I am not sure how the late innings situation is fixed. Matt Barnes has been worked hard and he honestly looks burned out, with his walks up and BABIP up aswell. Pray that Eovaldi and Hembree get healthy soon and that they pitch well when they return.

Jimed-Cora explained that with the stolen base he wanted Taylor in place of Brewer to prevent Jay from flicking one of Brewers curves to leftto score the runner from 2d.He was okay letting Brewer pitch to Jay as long as the runner was on 1st base.

Of course we we would have been pissed because we blew another save however I would not have second-guessed Taylor or Workman.

Redsoxfan2- Cleveland is.playing well but it seems the mgt would like to lose some games so they could trade some of their pitching to begin to rebuild their system.Maybe we can hold our breath and hope they go on a losing streak before the trade deadline

Why did Cora go to Barnes again today? His performance on the second day of pitching back to back days is dramatically worse than the first day. Yes, Barnes coughed it up but why was he in there?
I'm not defending the bullpen but the ChiSox aren't within striking distance if the offense gets more than one 2-out hit in this game.

You sent this to the wrong poster(s). No way I'm giving up Dalbec for Giles. No trades for relievers for our top prospects unless he is a lockdown for sure. Many on here wanted Herrera last year. Okay for Giles and or others but not for a top propsect. Just remember, our top prospects are on the lowest rated farm system. It's possible that you are overrating our guys?? Sarasoxer- guilty as charged. Soxjim- I was sending the message I was attaching comments to your's to support your position. In general, I believe the Sox need to wait until Wright, Eovaldi and Hembree return before determining what needs to be done. With the dearth of good relief and almost every contender needing pitching help, really good pichers are going to cost alot in terms of prospects.

Hes a free agent after 2020 right? If they are dumb enough to trade Dalbec for a year and change of Giles I'm rioting. I'm with you. No way Sox should give up Dalbec for Giles. All of you who are clamoring for the Sox to trade for Giles must have forgotten him walking off the field smacking himself in the head after another of his many meltdowns in Houston. When Hinch removed Giles from the closer role he pouted and whined about not closing. He's no sure thing nor has he proven to be good clubhouse guy.

I realize Wright wont be available. I don't believe there is a reliable arm availble that would improve the pen that wont cost at least one of our best prospects and put the Sox over the 3rd competitve balance threshold.

If the Sox arent rained out, their 80th game will be Monday;therefore,Wright is eligible to be reinstated on Tuesday. I think Wright displaces Josh Smith. Optimistically,Wright, Hembree and Eovaldi come back strong. Add Josh Tayor continuing to pitch well and the bullpen would be very deep and talented. Hopefully Trader Dave wouldnt then feel compelled to pillage the farm system for a rental relieve arm.

To those of you who have seen Dalbec run, could he become a corner outfielder? The Sox outfield could undergo a dramatic rebuild in the next 2 years. In the past the Sox haven't moved players around much before AAA.

Taylor doesn’t have very good control/command, but he sits 94-95 from the left. If he could tighten up the 4FB and SL/CU a bit more they might have something. He looks like he could provide that LHRP that weve been lacking.I agree he's in need of more control/command but 96 that moves from a lefty can help the Sox.
