This makes much more sense for a rental than Bart.

Are the Orioles strictly drafting college hitters? There are some interesting draft trends among teams. Orioles all college. Giants all pitching. Indians all pitching minus 1. I suppose someone studies organizational or GM tendencies out there.

Needed a C in the system. Though he's slingshot to stay there, I guess. Not a long term catcher, likely.

How much did Pittsburgh save with Davis?
Or is this Lonnie White backup plan?

Cleveland is drafting a full rotation.

Do the Orioles know they need to use their slot savings in THIS draft? They've gone pretty far underslot, seemingly, for all three picks for far. Maybe they will be in play for one of the Clemson kids.

Cleveland loading up on pitchers. It’s one of their strengths.

Marlins take BC's Cody Morissette. Really like Miami’s draft. Other than Boston’s my favorite so far. Shout out to Kim Ng!

Some here mentioned the need to pull a "Nick Yorke type of pick" in the 2nd round, Peyton Stovall is EXACTLY that. I saw some writings grading his hit tool as high as 70! I'm a sucker for thatExcept he’s rated the 29th best prospect by MLB and Yorke was rated 139th so not sure that comes with any savings versus slot. For me I’ll take Cody Morrisette. Contact skills, gets on base, versatile defensively. Seems like a kid who has a chance to contribute in some way at the major league level. Still a bit of upside as well.

5 percent of the total bonus pool of $11,359,600 is $567,980. If they use the full 5% they could get to $7,227,980 or a little above 3rd slot $. They can easily save enough to get close to $7.5 with the late 9th and 10th pick and stay on value for picks 2 through 8. This of course leaves no excess over $125,000 for picks 11 to 20.
I think $7.25 might get it done. Leaving between $200,000 and $250,000 potential savings with a few senior signs to spread around. I don’t think this necessarily precludes them from going slot on pick 2 because of the 5% extra. I think they may go under at 2 more for the ability to get a few more values in a deep draft with the later picks.

Did they just call it on ESPN? I thought the commentator they cut to was doing a fine job, surprised they didn’t just see it through. Seems a bit unprofessional and disrespectful to just drop it. Maybe the tech issues got too bad.

Padres go with Jackson Merrill. Lower ranked guy. Helium player with a bit of savings. Saying he wouldn’t last until there next pick.

How do the Padres have a competitive balance pick? They are stacked. One of the 10 smallest markets or 10 lowest revenue teams.

Interesting, Cincinnati made more sense for Watson to me just because they had such a massive pool, but maybe Miami is okay with punting their second rounder/CB pick. If they punt 31, one would think they could get a deal together. I think they can get him for about 5 mil. So 1.25 mil savings somewhere.

The only MFY pick that will piss me off is Sal Frelick. That dude has "pest in the batter's box" written all over him. Had forgotten about him in the celebration over the Mayer pick. A little surprised he's still there with all the top 10 talk, but not as surprising as the rest of this night. Frelick wouldn’t get past St. Loius I would think.

Giants pass on Watson too Reds have 3 picks tonight and might be the most logical team. Miami has two and the Jeter factor. Other than that it may be tough to meet his number.

Feel like the “trust in Chaim” movement is going to gain a few followers by the end of this draft if not already!

I actually feel bad for Mozzicato here, he's great and him being a 1st round pick wouldn't have been crazy. But there's going to be so much pressure on him to produce, as fans will think of him as the number 7 pick rather than the guy who signed for something in the high-teens or 20s. Then again, he's now a multi-millionaire. Here’s wishing him better success than our lefty thowing #7 pick of years past!

These 100mph guys who can't get swings and misses are always baffling and kind of infuriating to watch. I feel like that was as good a time as any for the Cardinals to invoke the 20-pitch end-of-inning rule. The 20 pitch mercy rule ended March 13th for spring training.

I'd have to think that the Mets are giving us something else of value. Khalil Lee was a top ten prospect in a loaded Royals system. Mets will have to give up more than just Josh Winckowski. How about JD Davis or Dominic Smith? I will take one of them. Or even Nimmo. That’s not asking much is it?

Ah yes, he’s now Bobby Valentine before the return comes in Lol what a clown show this place is after a move Body of work from the draft to today (I’m assuming the Mookie trade was foisted on him by ownership). Dude’s shown us nothing to merit being more than a replacement level GM right now. If that. Part of this is the recency bias coming off of Dave Dombrowski who is a strike fast strike hard GM. Bloom appears to be a more build on the fringes, build depth and youth followed by select large purchases. Dave's way gives instant gratification while Chaim’s is a multi year approach. Not a statement on this particular trade as I was looking for something different out of a Benintendi trade but there is potential for the unknown pieces to still make this a worthwhile trade. I am expecting a solid bounce back campaign from Benintendi this season. He is still a valuable piece for a club even when he’s not at his best.
