I do want to remind everyone that Jose Iglesias, light-hitting though he may be, is probably no worse than an averagish shortstop if given a full season's worth of at-bats. He makes enough contact to sustain a batting average at least in the .250 range, with improving plate discipline and truly elite defense. That's a real asset, even if he was inevitably going to be displaced by Xander in Boston. It's a price I'm happy to pay for a well above-average pitcher in Peavy, but it's not like he was a throwaway piece. I will miss his defensive wizardry. You don't get a chance to see a player with his level of defense very often. It is a rare commodity.

Lester has an option but it will be picked up. I'd like to see more of Workman in the rotation also. At least let him prove he's not a 4/5 starter. Obviously not any room right now but now you don't have to keep the rotation of AAA pitcher filling holes if injuries open a spot if Workman can handle a swing roll. Of course he may not be stretched out for it if it happens after the All-Star break next season.

Do you send Workman to the pen now until Buchholz is back or do you send Dempster first?

Surprised Sox didn't trade a 40 man crunch player for M. Young to fill the Iglesias hole vs bringing up Middlebrooks. Not saying its the best option but just surprised. Of course Amaro's probably mad at us. Ha Ha.
Edit: Of course a 40 man crunch guy is too much for Young.

Workman or Dempster to the pen now?

Worst case is after the 2014 season Peavy should get a qualifying offer and get us a Supplemental 1st rounder back right?

If all healthy the Sox will have a nice depth at SP for the first time in a while going into next season. IF one of the prospects is ready come spring training then you can move Dempster in the off season. Heck the team could probably trade Peavy in the off season and get as much back or more for him. Peavy and a De La Cruz to the Pirates for Polanco! Ha Ha can't help it.
Have to wonder what Law has to say about it. Might make those ESPN commenters think twice.

Of course there goes my Iglesias to the Pirates in a deal for Polanco wishful theory!

Just went to read the ESPN comments and everyone seems to say Detroit won this trade. They love Iglesias. Wait until they see what we unleash at SS/3B in the future when Xander says hi!

Kind of want to hang on to Buttrey and McGrath. Could see Kukuk going. Me too but so far Iglesias and Rondon aren't much of a price to pay so we can't get too upset over an unproven prospect 4 or 5 years away. Iglesias is palatable with Bogaerts ready soon and Marrero down the road with a little less glove but a little more stick. Rondon doesn't register for me. Sounds like a win for Ben tonight to me!

McGrath? Buttrey? Callahan? Kukuk? Mercedes? Montas? Take your pick.

Jokes on those teams. The Sox have no prospects in the low minors. Just send them Greenville. Zing!! Greenville - Diaz!

Looks like a solid K rate but just walks way too many. More guys with control issues to work out. Doesn't he fall into that 40 man crunch game. Not that he would be a keeper over our other prospects. Would have rather had a low A pitcher who isn't doesn't need to be protected.

Hopefully doesn't include Henry Ramos! I like this kid and want to see where his game is this time next season. Maybe Almanzar and Rijo?

Maybe a pitcher to Chicago and a 2nd baseman to Detroit? 3 prospects for Peavy sounds about right for the going rate this time of year.

I know I said probably a pitcher with the depth there but also wouldn't surprise me to see one of the 2nd base prospects go in Betts or Rijo with Pedroia staying on long term. Depends if you think Betts or Rijo have any other position options.

Of the "more names" there will be at least one from Boston to Chicago and I bet its a 40 man crunch player. Probably a pitcher. My opinion.

If so we may not here until tomorrow with both Pawtucket and Boston home. Short trip.

If only Iglesias this is a solid deal. Although perhaps Boston trades one more prospect to Chicago in this deal and Detroit also sends a prospect to Chicago. Either way we are definitely taking on the full contract which is not a big deal for minimizing prospects.

So does Chicago have a deal to move Alexei or is Iglesias there new 3rd baseman?
While we could see Xander or Middlebrooks its also quite possible the team rolls Snyder out there for a week or so to give them more time.

Question is how far did Peavy's asking price drop?
Other question is would it drop further come tomorrow?
