How about the Ohtani trifecta!!!! I would place the odds on that being about less than 1, but it would certainly be exciting if Henry channeled his inner Steve Cohen. Clearly the financial aspect looms large but from a roster perspective your essentially adding to the current roster two huge bats (Story’s return from injury and Ohtani) and two top 3 rotation starters (Ohtani and Yamamoto). Add in the next few years of impact from prospect development and the future looks bright. Also would be a solid sales pitch to both about the competitiveness of this team.

Don't forget Seattle or LAD. Obviously, money will be the biggest factor, however I wonder how much Yoshida might factor into Yamamoto's thinking. It appears they were teammates with the Orix Buffaloes which could only help the Red Sox case... If you were heading off to a foreign country it might be appealing to already know somebody on the other end. Yoshida w/ YamamotoHow about the Ohtani trifecta!!!!

500k overage 300k Teel? 80k Duffy 100k Early 300k Weins 175k O'Donnell 150k Ammons = 1.6 million savings to spend elsewhere Zanetello at 2.3 is 600k overslot Anderson at 1.85 million is 1 million overslot. Not seeing a day 3 overslot here Too much uncertainty right now to say for sure. SoxStats had heard 4 mil on Teel. Could be 600k there. Zanetello seems about right at 2.2 to 2.3 mil. Anderson between 1.3 and 1.5 mil is decent 2nd round money for a player who projects as a possible 2nd baseman. We can go with the rest but do you think Rose gets 250k and Wehunt 180k? Could see another 150 k there. That’s another 300 k saved for Teel, another 300k additionally for Anderson and 150 k on Rose and Wehunt. There’s 750k plus the 125k that doesn’t count against the cap after round 10 is 875k for a pick with 1 mil a distinct possibility in my mind.

I’d like to take a shot at a prep pitcher. Not sure if Cam Johnson is still singable. Seems questionable. Perhaps a guy like James Ellwanger a 6’5 nice fastball and avg to plus slider or Parker Detmers who has MLB bloodlines, can through strikes and has some nice projection still.

My first thought for Duffy was a Joe Ryan type pitcher with deception in his delivery allowing his stuff to play up.

I have no issues with draft the high end bat and figure out the position as long as that position can be something other than full time DH. These kids are athletic enough to bring positive defensive value to some position.

Pick 40 slot value 2.14 mil vs pick 50 slot value of 1.70 mil. One would conjecture about 500,000 above slot or so. I think it will be around slot. Nationals could have been offering under slot and pivoted to BPA when they got turned down. Let’s hope. That allows some freedom later in the draft.

It’s a nice swing. Very direct to the ball I agree. The swing stood out to me. Quick through the zone and I like the general swing plane. Also the arm looks to be above average. I like they will give him time on and off the dirt. I’m thinking long term 3B or RF.

I would love to hear about what happened on the wild ride that Devin Pearson referred to. I would guess they were prepared to do an underslot deal and push some money down the line but Teel falling made them do a quick shift of direction because they thought there was no way he was getting to 14. Also maybe Shaw going at 13 and Keaschall going at 49 right in front of their picks.

Looks like Seattle is taking Tai Peete. And Johnny Farmelo. Emerson and Peete is a haul Don’t sleep on Farmelo either. A very nice OF bat that I was a big fan of. Not a bold statement to say Seattle is walking away with one of the top two or three drafts on night one with 3 top 30 picks.

In my eyes, playoff appearances and the W-L record matter less than how the player development machine is going. I talk about projections as much as the next guy, but anyone can go out and get guys that have good median projections. Bloom was brought in to create an org that helps guys reach their 80th or 90th percentile outcomes. That is really the only explanation for the hodge podge of 'meh' players he has acquired since he took over - he is looking for guys with untapped potential. The big contracts he hands out matter less to me than stuff like: - Can Verdugo be a top ~30 position player in baseball as opposed to an average major leaguer? He was never an elite prospect and has been solid for the Red Sox, but he absolutely has another level to his game. - Can Wong be a starting catcher or will the Ks always relegate him to backup duties? - Can any of the pitchers acquired - Pivetta, Winckowski, Whitlock, etc. - be above average starting pitchers or bullpen arms? - Can the guys that came up through the system hit their ceiling? Houck, Bello, Duran, Casas, Dalbec, Crawford If 4 years into Blooms tenure none of these things have happened, then I think you need to start to think about moving on. I think this is very true. Tampa isn’t a better drafting team but they always seem to maximize the output of the players they have. They are very creative in doing so through platooning, piggybacking, positioning etc but also strong skill development. As you said getting an 80% outcome on a more consistent basis adds quite a few wins to the total and makes you a consistent playoff team.

Thad Ward would have been much better in this role than Braiser. Tendering Brasier does appear to be one of Chaim’s bad choices. There are many working out well but Brasier taking a roster spot and 2 mil of salary cap has not.

While the team may be a .500 win level team now, I believe adding in a Story return and the first true signs of prospect impact in the second half this years Red Sox push to 86 wins.

MLBTR also had majority votes going with the Giants landing Correa. The Cubs landing Dansby Swanson. The Phillies landing Trea Turner. There were some mixed opinions, with some guessing the Mariners and Dodgers as predictions. No Red Sox predictions of them landing a short stop. I’m not sure why but Baltimore doesn’t get mentioned in many predictions but one of the top shortstops makes a ton of sense for them. Especially Correa with no pick loss attached.

The idea that there are two (or more) different balls being used is the unforgivable part. Any change to the baseball has to be equally implemented. There is no other acceptable option in a league where a different ball favors one team over another as a result of factors outside of team control. Even differences in balls within one team. Chris Bassit made reference to it last night in regards to the hit batters. www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/33813547/chris-bassitt-rips-mlb-new-york-mets-suffer-3-more-hbps-careBassitt blamed the baseballs, which he says are "all different.” "It's extremely annoying to see your teammates constantly get hit, and if you get hit by certain pitches it is what it is, but to get hit in the head the amount that we're getting hit is unbelievable," Bassitt said. "I had some close calls tonight, and I've been hit in the face [by a line drive] and I don't want to do that to anybody ever, but MLB has a very big problem with the baseballs. They're bad. Everyone in the league knows it. Every pitcher knows it. They're bad. "They don't care. MLB doesn't give a damn about it. They don't care. We've told them our problems with them, and they don't care.” This while simultaneously adding humidors, changing the use of tack on the ball and any other unknown changes is a recipe for disaster. When experimenting you don’t change multiple variables at one time. You can't trace which aspect is giving you the results you want or don’t want. I don’t disagree with the premise to get away a bit from the extreme three outcome oriented approach but Manfred just seems to be making it up as he goes. Throwing spaghetti on the wall to see what sticks.

I think Bassitt is a nice get. Did have to give up JT Ginn in this deal though for 1 year of Bassitt. For the Mets I think it’s worth it. They are going for a title and this is a move that helps get them there without a big price tag. Bassitt will make around 9 Mil this season.

Yet another imbalance in revenues between small and big market teams. It would be nice if MLB guaranteed each club a set number of national televised games each year similar to the NFL guaranteeing each team to have a prime time game. That may close the gap in advertising revenue a bit. Of course if you told Apple or Peacock they had to show game including less competitive teams on their exclusive deals maybe MLB receives less as a whole.

NC State true freshman Tommy White has hit five HRs during its opening weekend series against Evansvile. Super highly rated coming out of HS, also I want to see his birth certificate he looks like he's 35. Hell of a beard+flow combo. Are we sure this isn’t Pete Incaviglia Jr.

Want to add this - Cash sometimes overthinks/is too smart (he thinks). That pitching change away from McHugh....hmmmm! Eric is right. Bringing in McClanahan on three days rest was the sucker move. Holding him on 5 days for a game 5 was the smart move. Our gain!
