The Red Sox pitching staff is 20 middle relievers. Dr. Anthony Fauci is warming up in the bullpen...

The awkward old white guys portion of the celebration, always my favorite... Can't they just get Bib Papi to represent the organization? What's wrong with you ? Alex Cora is the manager, David Price is the man of the hour, Mookie Betts is the AL MVP, and you've gotta shit on the whole thing ?? Can't we just get you leftists to go drown yourselves in the ocean ??

why isnt Bradley in for JD? I imagine because Cora wants Martinez on the field to end the game... brings back bad memories of McNamara sticking with Buckner in 1986 instead of going with Stapleton for defense. Yeah I know... NOT trying to be a downer...

Is it safe to assume Kimbrel isn't available to close after 20+ pitches the last two nights? Kelly also unavailable? I would guess they're both unavailable.

Okay Cora... let's not get greedy. Porcello for the next 2, and Brazier for the 9th.

I miss the good old days of Ned Martin & Bob Montgomery,, when they started drinking in the 6th inning... I'm too young to remember that, but it sounds awesome It was. I can remember one occasion when the game went to extra innings... Ned started slurring his speech, and then the two of them arguing about Bob Stanley's sinker, and whether it was more effective when he was tired...

These announcers are speculating about Chris Sale like they can't Google it and read what Cora said. I miss the good old days of Ned Martin & Bob Montgomery,, when they started drinking in the 6th inning...

Unless it's a COMPLETE blowout in either direction,, I only want to see Pomeranz if they catch him finger-painting on the bullpen wall. I joked earlier about Pom. If Cora didn’t bring him in in game 4, it seems hard to imagine what scenario short of massive blowout loss he’d pitch in. Well, if the Sox are losing 15-1, I'd be comfortable with Pomeranz. If the Sox are winning, I'd need to see a lead of 25-1 before I'd be okay with Pomeranz, and I'd watch it from the corner of the room with a set of Rosary beads...

I know its the World Series but I really wouldn’t mind seeing Hembree tonight given how well rested he is. I think realistically we’re looking at Price for 5, Brasier for an inning, Barnes, Hembree and/or Pomeranz and then Sale to close it out if we’re winning. If we’re losing than we probably see more of Pomeranz and Hembree. Unless it's a COMPLETE blowout in either direction,, I only want to see Pomeranz if they catch him finger-painting on the bullpen wall.

hes a pretty bad hitter. How was he tiring ? Turners hit just barely got over the bag? and there was an HBP. He also had 2 outs. It was by far the most pitches he’d thrown in a month. His velo was declining. It was the third time through the order. And although he only threw 6 pitches, HE PITCHED LAST NIGHT. You get 5 shutout innings from him the following day, you say thank you and go to the bullpen.

Brewers might be an easier opponent. But it would be nice to see Eovaldi drill Machado with a 101 mph fastball.

Cora obviously knows something we don’t. It’s not like he doesn’t remember Kimbrel’s recent outings. If he’s pitching it’s because our manager thinks it gives us the best chance to win. Might not work out, but if Cora thinks it’s fhe right move then I’m good with it. I'm REALLY starting to wonder about Cora.

Why the eff is Kimbrel warming, etc. My brain hurts. Let him get warm, to massage his ego. Just DON'T bring him into the F*CKING game.

All hands on deck in this game. Barnes in the 5th. I wonder if it's Eovaldi or Porcello that pitches 2. The Red Sox are SERIOUSLY missing Steven Wright.....

I don't see the Sox re-signing Kimbrel this off-season, and it has nothing to do with last night. Based on his history, he's gonna want a ton to stay in Boston, and the Sox just don't have it to give - with the others they have to re-sign shortly.
Eovaldi might be an option - he throws strikes. Whether Kimbrel has just been "nibbling" too much this year, or has just had too many bouts of wildness - you can't have closers putting people on base because they can't throw the ball over the plate. Last night, Kimbrel walked Judge to leadoff the 9th with a 3 run lead. Judge could have hit the ball 2 miles and it still would have been 4 - 2.
And is it just me, or has Kimbrel fallen in love with his off-speed pitches this year ? If you have an upper 90's fastball, it seems to me you go out and throw it. Get them sitting on that and then sneak in the off-speed shit.

Per McAdam on BSJ, “The Red Sox seem to be sending something of a message to third baseman Rafael Devers by not recalling him from his rehab assignment on the day that rosters expand. Eduardo Nunez has hit .306 in his last 29 games and shown solid defense at third. “One thing’s for sure, Raffy has to play better,” said Cora. “We knew that. The whole season, offensively, he’s been up and down. Defensively, he’s made his errors. But he needs to be better, that’s the bottom line. We’re here to win games and whoever’s playing best is going to play.” I don’t think Devers is a lock for the post season roster. I think he makes the roster. The alternative is a 4 man bench consisting of Vazquez, Swihart, Holt, and Pearce and a 12 man pitching staff. And I really don't see what Vazquez brings the Sox over Devers. Devers at worst has useful power off the bench. Ultimately I think Devers will wind up platooning with Nunez, but we'll see. I can't see leaving Devers off the roster and keeping Vazquez, especially since Swihart a) plays other positions, and b) is a switch hitter.
