I love the new era of launch angles. I'm so glad Ted Williams won over Walt Hreniak. Holy cow did I hate Hreniak. Ruined Gedman. I once saw Rich Gedman swing "down" on a pitch that was over his head.

I seem to recall Papelbon had one or more games in which he walked 3 then struck out the next three, it’s about the drama I'll bet some on the board remember Mark Clear, from the early 1980's. He could walk the bases loaded, then strike out the side with his hellacious curve ball. There's something different with Kimbrel, though. If he starts an inning clean in a save situation, he's almost untouchable. But bringing him in to pitch more than one inning, or when it's not a save situation, and he's not the same pitcher.

If the Red Sox take all four games this weekend -- please, God -- Aaron Boone should be fired, and likely will be, in my opinion. If The Boss were still alive he would have been fired already, with Billy Martin the new manager (and Bob Lemon waiting in the wings).
No question in my mind the Yankees would be a better team this year with Girardi as manager, and I take Cora's post-game comment ("I can sleep well because I know my team is going to show up and play the game the right way.") as a direct knock on Boone. You're "dating" yourself...

DeGrom would have 2 1/2 years control remaining. Syndergaard 3 1/2 years. I don't think the Red Sox have enough to offer in a trade for either of these two unless they were willing to talk about Devers or another starter. Zack Wheeler has had a pretty good year after a couple of bad ones, but I think that even he would come with a prohibitive price tag, probably Dalbec, Beeks (+)...

The Red Sox signed outfielder Kyle Wren to a minor league deal, MassLive.com’s Chris Cotillo reports (Twitter link). Wren is the son of Frank Wren, the former Orioles and Braves general manager and the current Red Sox senior VP of player personnel. The younger Wren was an eighth-round pick for Atlanta in the 2013 draft (when his father was still the GM) and was dealt to the Brewers after the 2014 season. The 27-year-old Wren has posted solid numbers over his pro career, hitting .295/.364/.384 over 2546 PA in the minors, though the Brewers still released him last week. In other Boston minor league news, the Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox announced (via Twitter) that outfielder Ramon Flores has been released. The Sox acquired Flores from the Diamondbacks back in March, and he struggled to a .215/.299/.308 slash line over 223 PA for the PawSox this season. These numbers are a far cry from Flores’ previously-solid career performance at the Triple-A level, and even counting this year, he still owns an .802 career OPS over 1402 PA at the highest minor league level. A longtime member of the Yankees’ farm system, Flores has appeared in 119 games in the majors with the Angels, Brewers, and Yankees, with the large majority (104 games and 289 PA) coming with Milwaukee in 2016. www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/07/minor-mlb-transactions-7418.html

Won't be easy. There's not too many comparable players to Betts, Bogaerts, and Sale. Maybe Machado isn’t that guy, maybe there’s another player who fits that model like Harper. Yes, these guys are going to get hefty pay days but does anyone think Betts, Bogaerts, and Sale are not? and/or are going to sign deep discounts? I doubt any of them will take a discount... if Sale is really happy in Boston, maybe he wouldn't be looking to break the bank. As mentioned elsewhere, Bogaerts being a Boras client will probably chase the highest $$ possible. And while I'd like to see Betts play his whole career in Boston, I'm starting to get the impression he's really not of that mind. Kind of like Ellsbury was - lukewarm to the fan base here, and while it might be a nice gig,, he'd rather be elsewhere....

Have you been to Safeco? I was a big fan. And of Seattle of course. My sister lives in Seattle and always goes to see the Sox when they visit. She's been to a few ballparks and says that outside of Fenway, Safeco is the best place to see a game. I've never been. Seattle is a nice city, but almost impossible to drive in... you always have to "turn left"...

Three hits in 10 innings against the team with the worst record in baseball. Unbelievable.
And yeah, I get that Dylan Bundy is a pretty good pitcher... but it's not like he's Cy Young.

This is Haley's 7th year in the Sox system and his first appearance for the Sox now will be his ML debut. It is quite unusual for a player to spend that much time in one team's system without getting a shot at the majors. He does seem to have gradually improved. He can be a FA after the season and also is Rule 5 eligible. Jerez has been in the system even longer but he started out as an outfielder. I'm a bit surprised they didn't give Scott a shot. They could use another LH RP. Scott also would have had to be added to the 40-man. Buttrey seems likely to get a shot at some point. He is on the 40-man and has struck out 39 in 24 innings. Robby Scott is already on the 40 man roster...

Sox tried to get NM HS LHP Mitchell Parker to Boston for a workout this week but it didn't work out logistically, they visited in-home instead. Signed with U of Tennessee, but his dad says in the article he is expected to go in rounds 3-10 and sign. BA #281.
This kid has a decent rep out here as a high school pitcher.. he doesn't have the "buzz" that Swihart and Bregman did, but locally his name has been in the news for the last year or so...

www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/05/red-sox-sign-adam-lind.htmlThe Red Sox have agreed to a minor league contract with veteran first baseman Adam Lind, reports Evan Drellich of NBC Sports Boston (Twitter links). The ISE Baseball client was recently released by the Yankees. Drellich notes that president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski has confirmed the agreement to him, though the club has not yet issued a more formal announcement of the signing. Why ?

IMHO, a great move by the Sox. Yeah, Dombrowski must have had a hard time keeping a straight face while saying "the vesting option had nothing to do with it". Something here doesn't "ping" right to me, though. I'm not buying for a minute that this was Cora's idea. I think this came from upstairs, and Cora was more or less "told" to get Swihart more involved. For whatever reason, I don't think Cora is enthralled with Swihart at ANY level,, but now he is more or less "stuck" with him, at least for the time being.

"Jalen Christopher Beeks with a stinker so far: Just 6 Ks through 4 innings."
Yeah. And only 9 thru 6.2 innings. PLUS, he walked one. AND, gave up 2 runs ! One of which actually left the yard !!!It's obvious he's slipping. I think the Sox should try to flip him for a lottery pick...
