I'm ready to let him sit at home. I'm already not crazy about having 2 DHs on the team and how that limits roster flexibility and that probably also forces them to dump Brentz for nothing.
Exactly.
Signing Martinez in effect does give the Sox 2 DHs, and although Brentz at this point is only a wildcard, it's a wildcard that hit 30+ homers last year and is serviceable in the outfield. From what little I saw of JDM last year,, I don't think you want him anywhere near left field at Fenway.
Plus, the Sox will be putting themselves in the position of having a declining bat and large contract (sound familiar ?) in the later years of this contract. I just don't think that Martinez puts them "over the top" this year, but he almost CERTAINLY costs them more than a lot of money going forward.

Our offseason is very easy: 1.) sign free agent ohtani. He is the real deal! 2.) move devers to first base. 3.) sign a free agent/trade for a power hitting third baseman with tons of October experience, and plays good defense, 4.) sign a lefty reliever.
Gee, that's not asking a whole lot....
The Sox should see if they can get Erin Andrews to pop out of the dugout clad in a bikini to sweep the bases off during the 7th inning stretch....
I know... I'm showing my age...

Could be. If Milwaukee falls out of it does anyone think the Sox could get this Shaw guy? He's raking and can play first and third. I wonder if Chavis, Groome, Ockimey, and Mata would be enough...better get on that, Dave.

Not too bad an outing for Mata tonight....
69 pitches in just 3 innings, but only one earned run with 4 strikeouts....

Just from looking at the box score,, I'd say another good day for EROD.... Still 24 years old - and pitches 8 innings around 100 pitches... I think we'd TAKE it every time he goes out....
Just sayin...

Good Afternoon...
I'm Ron and live in New Mexico.... been a Red Sox fan for all of my 59 years - having grown up in Connecticut. Don't have much time to post, although I do visit the site daily...
Have had a few great Sox memories, and a few not-so-good ones... I was at fenway for Mo Vaughn's first game,,, quite a few opening days back in the 80's... and was in attendance back in 1990 when Dwight Evans hit a walk off against the Orioles (when the sun came out on a cloudy day just before the hit, and went back behind the clouds after he circled the bases)...
Anybody remember that one ??
This is my "go-to" site for Sox news and opinion, kind of like one-stop shopping...

Ban me if you guys are so ignorant that you think my comment was racist. We will never get anywhere if you think that was a racist comment. Honestly, I deserve an apology, not more racist banter. Yes, I profiled a kid from the DR as likely to come from a poor background. Lynch me then. It's like saying a kid from the Hamptons is probably affluent. I care about latino kids and express some rationales for what might be bothering him or causing interpersonal issues and you guys jump on the racism bandwagon. The likelihood of Acosta coming from a US level of affluence is like 2% at best. Go ahead and string me up as normal. Get your rocks off. You guys should man up for once and express that just MAYBE you jumped the gun on your comments, not me. Most EXCELLENT post... I'd hate to see this board go the way of ESPN....

So surprising that he fell to the Red Sox at #12.....
If the hype is true,, this is the second coming of John Lester....

Wow.
I'm formerly from New England, and I dearly miss the seafood, noreaster's,, and of course,, the Red Sox.
But I sure don't miss the brain-dead "liberals" that live there.

"Ellsbury for 7 years and MORE than Crawford got. Thats madness. This will benefit the Red Sox for years to come."
EXACTLY what I'm thinking. I enjoyed watching Ellsbury in Boston, but his time on the DL (EXCESSIVE) and his aging will be a gift to the Sox in the years to come. I'm willing to bet this guy spends 30+ days on the DL next year,, and it will be all downhill from there. While it may not be "PC",, if Ellsbury gets a hangnail he won't play.
Thanks AGAIN,, yankmees.
