One team was hurt worse by the strike than Toronto.
Even if the Expos hadn't won the 1994 World Series, they'd probably be playing today in a nice, baseball-only stadium in Montreal. If they had won the World Series, they definitely would.

Pirates GM Neal Huntington indicated that he's searching for a platoon partner for Gaby Sanchez at first base. The right-handed Sanchez owns a meager .242/.313/.387 career slash line against same-handed pitchers, but has slashed a robust .300/.399/.496 against southpaws. Huntington also said he believes Sanchez can improve against right-handed pitching, but we'd bet on history over the GM's word on this one. Sanchez's platoon split was even more pronounced in 2013 -- .987 OPS against lefties, .619 OPS against righties -- than it was before. Source: Travis Sawchik on Twitter Nov 25 - 10:34 PM. Via Rotoworld This screams Mike Carp to me. He'd be a great platoon partner or starter for Pittsburgh with long term control doesn't cost a lot. They could offer a decent prospect to us with their loaded system. Agreed. I've still got a Josh Bell obsession, and I hypothesized a Carp/Bell trade earlier in the offseason. There are also a few solid lefty 1B on the market, including James Loney and Justin Monreau, who would be a match. I'd love to see Carp for Bell, but I don't think there's any way the Pirates do that. Bell basically lost two years of development, not getting to play the year he was drafted due signing late, then missing most of his first season with a knee injury. I think that's left him underrated on prospect lists. He's not in MLB's top 100, yet he's almost the exact same age (actually 11 days younger) and No. 4 Bubba Starling, but playing in the same league last year, Bell had an .803 OPS and Starling a .727. I think this year Bell could leap up the prospect rankings. I can't see the Bucs trading him for Carp, a platoon player who had a .744 OPS after the All-Star break and who for the first time is arbitration-eligible.

Is there any idea when Myles Smith might pitch?

OK, that was interesting. Error, two stolen bases, a walk and a K, and two runs. Didn't get through the first (probably a pitch per inning limit).; I was present for his debut and (attempted) to take video. Working on it. His mom, dad, and brothers were present. Have no idea how he is 6 ft 6in. with her being about 5'10' and him about 6'. Both bros had on Red Sox gear and looked like they wished they were at the hotels' pool. When I was that young I was often bored myself. Nice facility at Port Charlotte. Played on side field but bleachers were covered from the sun. 5-10 is pretty darn tall for a woman. The height probably comes from the mom's side.

It's an interesting dilemma for Sheffield. If I were in his shoes, I think I would enjoy the next three years of my life more if I were in college, but if I were coming off Tommy John surgery and thinking of my long-term baseball future, I would want to sign now.
I can't imagine any college baseball program, even a truly elite one such as Vanderbilt, could handle my rehab as much as a major-league baseball team.

OK, I guess Rubby does need a little more work.

They don't need to make him a closer right away. They can even stick with a long-range plan of making him a starter. But right now they need help in the bullpen, whatever inning.

After Alex Wilson's performance and the incredible workload they've been heaping on Uehara, they HAVE to give Rubby a try now. Don't they?

I would love to see Rubby as a reliever with the big club right now. I think he can help the team both by giving them solid innings and keeping them from burning out Tazawa and Uehara. And if De La Rosa does pitch well in Boston, it lessens the chance of trading prospect(s) for guys like John Axford, Kevin Gregg or Francisco Rodriguez

Love the site and after reading it for years, I finally stopped being a freeloader, creating an account and donating.
