Rosenthal on MLBN said he isn't certain how much money Sox are throwing in yet. Hopefully it's less than half of the 96 million owed.

One concern w Graterol is he's already had TJ surgery... I'm hoping they get someone else in the deal.

Reports are saying Price and Betts are going to the Dodgers so I'm guessing we get someone like Senzel too. Would have to be Dodger prospects to the third team for someone good

Trading Betts and a subsidized Price better get more than Verdugo and one other player. Verdugo is damaged goods right now. Figured the extra prospects like Downs would help alleviate those concerns

With Sox paying a significant portion of the deal I say Verdugo, Gray, Downs and Cartaya

@ken_Rosenthal Both Mookie Betts and David Price would head to Los Angeles if #RedSox and #Dodgers complete their blockbuster, a source tells The Athletic. Alex Verdugo would be centerpiece for Boston. Deal could be in place tonight, per @alexspeier . Would require completion of medical reviews

PCreight @pcreighton1 · 57m Per sources: sticking point in #RedSox #Dodgers deal for Mookie Betts right now is how much of David Price’s deal (3/$96m) LA will absorb
Boston wants LA to take all of it. Dodgers haggling, trying to get Boston to pay a part.
They believe two sides will get it worked out.

They're is a big risk carrying Mookie into the season and hoping to trade him at the deadline. He could get hurt or have a bad yr. Then no teams will be offering anything close to what they are offering now. He has more value now bc the team will have him for a full yr, can offer him a qualifying offer to get a draft pick, and can trade him during the season themselves and take on that risk of him or the team underperforming.

By trading Mookie now you get controllable prospects making the minimum which also lets you go under the CBT and allows you to spend more freely the next couple years as well. They could use the money to go after Betts, Realmuto, Springer, or save it for the better free agent class of 2021 w Lindor, Correa, Seager, etc. Verdugo has been a top 50 prospect in the past and put up good numbers last yr in limited playing time. He could end up being a solid regular giving you 2/3 of the production of Betts and controlled for 5 more yrs.

Chaim has kept all these trade talks close to the vest. Only leaks seem to be coming from the Padres side. I trust that Chaim will get the best deal possible knowing that Mookie is intent on going to free agency. There are way too many risks going into the season w him. He could get hurt or go into a major slump hurting his trade value during the season. I bet that if a deal is completed w the Padres or anyone else we will be pleasantly surprised on the players we get back. Maybe the Sox agree to pay more money on Myers deal in order to get Patino.

Margot/ Naylor and Quantrill/ Lucchesi and 50-75% of Myers’ contract for Betts is so bad that I can only assume this was the initial offer Padres made and not what’s currently on the table.... I hope. If that prospect is Capusano then it's a good deal. Myers, Capusano, Naylor, and Quantril for one yr of Betts is a good trade. Depends what the Dodgers are offering but I'd also like Verdugo and some pitching prospects like Gonsolin and Gray and maybe Ruiz. Either way this seems to be heading to a conclusion w all these names being tossed around in the media from SD reporters and Boston reporters w Speier.

Assuming the anonymous Padres account has some credibility, the following trade (using baseballtradevalues.com) might be appealing:
Padres Receive:
Betts OF 50.7
Total Value 50.7
Red Sox Receive: Lucchesi SP 38.3
Campusano C 25.1 Grisham OF 18.8 Cronenworth 2B 5.5 Myers 1B -55.3 Cash 18
Total Value 50.4
If the Padres are willing to part with the compensatory draft pick, you could replace Cronenworth in the above trade scenario. Thoughts?
Replace Lucchesi with Quantrill and it would be a good deal w me. Rather have a RHP who throws 95 mph than ANOTHER LHP in the rotation who throws 90. With the Padres competing against the Dodgers for a deal and Preller fighting to keep his job past this yr, I can see a deal where he caves and includes Patino. That would be ideal

This just sounds like negotiation on the part of the Red Sox. To get 2 good prospects they are going to have to eat some money and/or take back a contract like Pollock in return. I still think that the Sox and Dodgers match up good on a trade. Something like Mookie, Price, and 20 million for Verdugo, May and Pollock or Kelly seems to work for both sides. Even something in the middle like Verdugo and Gonsolin or May and Jeter Downs or Ruiz could work. We'll see how it works out before spring training

With only 5 weeks before spring training starts I would think the Sox would start making some moves this week. The Dodgers and Sox match up on a deal for Price and/or Betts in so many ways. The Dodgers have a top farm system plus guys on deals they can trade to offload some money of their own like Joe Kelly and Pollock. The Sox would have to get back May and some lower prospects plus Pollock and/or Kelly or can structure a deal around Verdugo and a lesser pitching prospect like Santana, Gonsolin or Gray. If we are talking about these types of deals then you know the Dodgers and Sox have to be talking about these same types of frameworks to complete a deal. I wouldn't be surprised if some frameworks are agreed upon and waiting for final decisions from the Sox and/or Dodger ownership.

Still available: Matt Adams, Tyler Austin, Yonder Alonso, Lucas Duda, Logan Forsythe, Todd Frazier, Brad Miller, Mitch Moreland, Logan Morrison, Martin Prado, Mark Reynolds, Neil Walker, Not a ton there. Probably will take a LoMo or Moreland when the music stops? I can see Bloom bringing in Greg Bird for cheap and he still is controllable for a couple more years like Peraza.

The article only says that a blockbuster deal involving Betts and Price is possible and the Dodgers have always made sense as a trade partner. Says nothing is close at this time and backs up what Morosi said that the teams were now talking more frequently.

Dan Hayes @danhayesmlb · 39m Source: #MNTwins to sign pitchers Homer Bailey and Rich Hill.
Both 1 yr deals. 7 million for Bailey and 3 million for Hill w up to 9.5 million total w incentives on 75 IPs or 15 starts. Would guess this still leaves them room to sign Donaldson or possibly trade for Price.

I'd drive Price and Benny to the airport for that return, but that report is a load of crap. Does anyone speak Gammo language? Lol. Is he confirming what he said the other day on MLBN about possibly Price and Benny and cash for Madrigal and Vaughn may be in the works?
