I think that it depends on who gets traded in the rotation. Peavy should still have decent value to a team esp with other teams watching while Nolasco and Kazmir get overpaid and are signed to multi year deals. Peavy and Dempster are only signed for one year and they are more proven

Boston Red Sox ? redsox 4m Boston tendered 2014 contracts to the other 26 unsigned players on its major league roster. With the moves, our 40-man roster is now at 38.

Nice job Sherman. "Someone who you trust" in the Sox organization. He must have forgot that Bobby Valentine doesn't work for the Red Sox anymore

I really hope that Bailey is non-tendered and then brought back on an incentive-laden deal. You have to think that the projected 4 million dollars would be better spent on an outfielder or first baseman. It would also free up a spot on the 40 man, that is currently full, if he was brought back on a minor league deal

I just saw that I have the same avatar pic, Mainesox. Sorry about that. lol. Pedro is one of my all time favorite players and that is the one of my favorite pics. I can change it if you want. I would much rather sign Choo than Granderson as he offers elite OBP and can leadoff. If you look at Choo's hit chart he also hits the ball the other way a lot and with power. This should be plan A and then sign someone like Gutierrez who can play center field and bat against righties

While he did struggle against lefties last year, he offers more power than Ellsbury, a higher OBP, and would slide right into the leadoff spot. Ellsbury didn't hit lefties that well either. Choo will probably end up signing for less years than Ellbury and be cheaper overall. His skills usually age better than Ellsbury's too (OBP and HR vs STLS and speed). Nava can backup both corner OF spots and Gomes can play against tough lefties.

Most of us agree that the Sox could go into next year by filling in w guys already on the 40 man and let their 4 main free agenys leave and collect the draft picks. They have around 40 million to spend if they want to and stay under the luxury tax. I doubt that they will pocket the money. That is why I think they will re-sign Ellsbury or sign Choo for around 16 million per year and still have money to upgrade the bullpen and bring back Napoli. Beltran looks close to signing w the Yankees so Choo and Ellsbury are the best fits IMO. Last year they wanted guys who worked the count, drew walks, and had a good OBP. This describes Choo perfectly and he adds 20 HRS and around 20 steals per year. I am surprised that no one else is talking about him being a Red Sox target

1 Choo LF 2 Victorino RF 3 Pedroia 2B 4 Ortiz DH 5 Napoli 1B 6 Bogaerts SS 7 Middlebrooks 3B 8 Suzuki C 9 Bradley CF
Bench 10 Ross C 11 Carp 1B/OF 12 Holt SS/2B 13 Gomes OF
SP 14 Lester 15 Lackey 16 Buchholz 17 Doubront 18 Peavy
RP 19 Uehara 20 Tazawa 21 Workman 22 Miller 23 Breslow 24 Badenhop 25 Crain
Re-sign Napoli to a 2 yr deal. Trade Dempster for whoever will take him for some prospects. Sign Suzuki to a 1 year deal to split catching duties with Ross. My preference is to wait out Ellsbury and try to sign him for around 5 years 110. If he leaves then the number 1 priority should be to sign Choo. He was the best leadoff hitter last year in OBP, averages around 20 HRs a year, 15-20 steals, and can play LF with a rocket for an arm. Sign Crain for the bullpen and then trade Carp or Nava for a RP or prospect.
