My concern is that the Red Sox won't strike and sign someone to help replace the offense lost. I doubt they end up as the top bidder for Choo bc this isn't their MO. The last time they made a splash in the free agent market it burned them with Crawford.

Ken Rosenthal ?@ken_Rosenthal Sources: Four teams were in “hard” on Ellsbury. About twice as many active on Choo. #RedSox could become factor, with Victorino moving to CF

Last year I remember teams getting the other team's first round pick as long as it wasn't in the top ten picks. Look at the draft last year. I also remember the Mets were fighting this bc they had 11th pick but it was due to someone not signing someone from the year before and MLB ruled they wouldn't have to give that pick up if they signed a comp free agent

Anderson is due $8 million this year and then a $12 million option for next year. Nava is making close to the minimum so it wouldn't free up a much money at all. They are going to trade Dempster or Peavy in a salary dump-type trade so they will have the money to sign Ellsbury/Choo and Napoli

Patrick Saunders ?@psaundersdp For those #Rockies fans curious about free-agent catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, I'm told he's going to #Marlins.

A cost controlled catcher for the next several years is good to have and gives the Sox money to spend elsewhere in the future. The free agents next year though aren't that good. That is why I think this year is the time to strike in free agency by signing either Ellsbury or Choo.

I'm hoping that Cano does end up signing with the Yankees. If Cano signs with the Mariners then it could start a chain of events where the Yankees sign Ellsbury and others and then either Texas or Detroit signs Choo and the Sox are left with only AJP and maybe Napoli. In this scenario the Sox might then have to replace Ellsbury's offense through a trade for someone like Kemp.

Yeah it is just someone pulling at straws saying that the Sox might be interested bc he still young. He hasn't been healthy in a couple years and the Sox already have 6 veteran starters and depth at AAA.

Yeah the Mariners should be targeting players like Ellsbury or trading for someone like Kemp. I guess that's why they haven't been good in awhile. They have a deep farm system with a lot of good pitching prospects. They should deal for younger players to put around King Felix like Price, Kemp, Scherzer, etc...

No he doesn't have a no trade clause. Just gives the Rays more years of team control on Hanigan so they aren't trading players/prospects for him to only lose him after one year.

I bet the Rays will get him on the cheap and he outperforms Pierzynski for half the money.

Granderson also doesn't walk that much, is already 32 years old, and he is looking for 3-5 years, and brings a lot of strike outs too. Give me Choo instead

I want them to bring back Ellsbury as plan A and if he is out of their price range of around 100 million then I want them to allocate some of those resources toward Choo instead. Replaces leadoff hitter and OF. Put Bradley in center and either re-sign Napoli or find a platoon partner for Carp at 1st base.

Well at least he has some upside as a power hitting C that can be used as a stop gap. I would rather take a flier on him than Pierzynski

The Blue Jays have non-tendered C Arencibia according to a press release from the team. He might be a good pickup to catch for a year or two while Swihart and Vasquez develop at Triple A

And this from the Pioneer Press:
"Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that the Twins are no longer pursuing A.J. Pierzynski. La Velle E. Neal III of the Star Tribune reported over the weekend that signing Pierzynski might be the club's next order of business following deals with Ricky Nolasco and Phil Hughes. However, a source closely monitoring Pierzynski's free agency told Berardino that the catcher is "not going there." The Twins are looking to add a backstop after moving Joe Mauer to first base."

Gammons just said on MLB network that the Red Sox are first trying to sign a stop-gap catcher and are definitely interested in Pierzynski and could make that happen soon. He then said that Ellsbury is looking to cash in closer to 140 million while to Red Sox are only comfortable offering around 100 million. Ended it by saying that the Sox are hopeful that they can re-sign Napoli but they are looking at various options. Said possibly a RH platoon partner for Carp

I just think that they still have value to teams that are looking for a solid veteran starting pitcher. Fister has been a good pitcher for the last three years. Definitely underrated. He has been better than Peavy and Dempster. Peavy got the White Sox a solid player in Avisail Garcia. I think the Sox can get a solid prospect in return while freeing the salary to spend elsewhere.
